This week we continue to explore our Hero Hotels, but move away from the Atlantic to focus on the amazing Seashells Resort at Suncrest overlooking the Mediterranean Sea in Malta. Whether you’re looking to relax alongside the hydro massage corner in the outdoor pool or have a go on the slide into the splash pool, this 4 star resort has plenty to offer all of your holiday desires. There are plenty of different board options to choose from and cuisines vary from continental and Maltese dishes to sizzling BBQ grills. With a majority of rooms having private balconies, you are sure to also get in a nice sunset view!
We’ve uncovered some insider tips on what to do around the hotel and the surrounding area. You really can’t beat local recommendations, so take a read of their suggestions below…
- Where can we find the best beach?
Seashells: This depends on what you’re really looking for. Malta has loads of rocky hamlets and less sandy beaches. Mellieha/Ghadira Bay (30-40 minutes away by bus) on the North of the island offers beautiful sand as well as various activities. Golden Bay (20-30 minutes away by bus) is another favourite and if you stay here long enough, you can also experience a great sunset!
- Where is your favourite restaurant nearby and why?
Seashells: The hotel’s own Coral Cove offers a large buffet with all drinks included. My absolute favourite is The Cheeky Monkey which is a Gastro Pub. It offers various beers and whiskeys from around the world, including beer cocktails and also great casual food such as homemade burgers, calamari and platters. There is also a great sea view and live entertainment three times a week.
- Can you point us to some great places to shop?
Seashells: Most definitely Sliema – The Point or Sliema Strand with various shops which takes 45 minutes to travel to by bus. There are also cafes and restaurants nearby if you want to have a break or simply enjoy the view of the Valletta Bastions.
- What is the one thing we must do in Qawra?
Seashells: Go to the National Aquarium and enjoy the view from there – including the St. Paul’s Islands and a view as far as the sister Island of Gozo. If you wake up early enough, the sun rise is absolutely phenomenal!
- What are your fondest memories of Qawra?
Seashells: The beautiful summer nights with the great promenade, typical Mediterranean breeze, walking on the rocks and a good bottle of wine – the evenings are absolutely great.
- What is your favourite feature about the hotel?
Seashells: The pools and decks. They are both near the sea which means you can use a deckchair and umbrella near the pool but still be next to the sea. Each pool has its own bar. One of the pools is kept very lively with entertainment – animation as well as a slide, whilst the second pool is for adults only – pure relaxation.
- What’s the best way for tourists to embrace the local culture?
Seashells: Although quite small, Malta offers a lot in terms of culture. The great thing about Malta is that you are never far away from whatever is happening. Especially in the summer as there are various village feasts every weekend with processions, fireworks and street decorations. There is also various wine or beer festivals that take place as well. Most villages are very interesting to explore especially the ones on the south of the island that have quaint streets, oversized baroque churches and local pubs.
- What makes your hotel a Hero Hotel?
Seashells: Our seaside location, activities for different ages and newly refurbished, modern rooms with all facilities including Wi-Fi. We also have a great spa – Carisma with Turkish hammam and great treatments.
