Electric nightlife – Zante
Zante has become synonymous with partying over the last decade. Head to Laganas for a fantastic choice of pubs, bars and clubs; it’s the island’s biggest clubbing resort and people from across Europe come here to party through the night. With a whole host of venues catering for all tastes in music, Laganas is perfect for party-goers who want their holiday immersed in fun and frolics. Tsivili gets the balance between lively and relaxed just right with a busy centre full of tavernas and bars, a beautiful beach and a slightly slower pace of life outside the busy strip. Zante is also home to one of Greece’s most famous and photographed beaches, Smuggler’s Cove. Pay a visit by boat or head to the viewing platform on the cliff top above (if you’re not afraid of heights).
Something for everyone – Kos
Kos just *gets* holidays; whether you’re a young traveller looking for gorgeous beaches and great nightlife, a couple seeking stunning views and a romantic retreat, or a family wanting to chill out on the beach by day and enjoy some local entertainment by night, there really is something for everyone. Kos Town and Kardamena play host to some fab bars and clubs whilst Tingaki welcomes families with traditional tavernas serving delicious seafood and pubs and karaoke bars for the evening. Explore the monuments and ruins dotted around Kos Town for a taste of Kos’ history.
Great for families – Crete
Crete is the biggest Greek island and is bursting with activities for all the family to enjoy plus miles and miles of beautiful, sandy beaches and shallow, clean seawater. Top this off with a family-friendly atmosphere and tons of hotels geared at parents and children and you have the perfect family holiday destination! Head to Agios Nikolaos, Elounda, Rethymnon and Hersonissos where you’ll find glorious beaches, water parks, golf, lots of places to eat and harbours where you can watch boats bobbing on the water as the sun goes down. Crete is also the warmest Greek island so it’s the perfect destination if you’re looking for a spring or autumn school holiday break.
Peaceful and relaxing – Thassos
Thassos is beautiful. It is blanketed with verdant greenery, vineyards and olive groves which sweep down the hillsides towards fine, sandy beaches. Thassos revels in tradition and offers a truly authentic Greek experience. There are a few spots of lively hustle and bustle; Thassos Town has a beautiful port and modern centre with shops and bars and Potos mixes old world charm with lovely tavernas and a lively nightlife. However the main ambience of Thassos is pure tranquillity; there’s an absence of heavy tourism which is replaced with Greek authenticity and beauty that is mesmerising. Visit one of the many beautiful beaches for some of the clearest water you’ll ever see and enchanting sunsets.
All about the beach – Skiathos
The beaches in Skiathos are, simply put, amazing. Whether it’s unspoilt coves, stretches of golden sand or beaches with a hip, beautiful crowd that you’re after, Skiathos has it all. Koukounaries Beach is a heavenly sweep of soft, gold sand and irresistibly clear, shallow water. Banana Beach is back dropped by pine trees and attracts a fantastic mix of people who come to relax at the uber-cool beach bars. When you’re not lounging on the beach, pay the cosmopolitan hub that is Skiathos Town a visit. Stroll around the harbour and admire the amazing super-yachts moored there, explore the winding narrow streets of the old town, treat yourself in one of several boutiques and dine on deliciously fresh local cuisine. Take a stroll over to the Bourtzi fortress and look back across the town at night for a truly stunning view.
Cosmopolitan hotspot – Mykonos
Mykonos is alllll about style with luxury villas, A-list visitors from around the world, boutiques aplenty and 5* star hotels. If it’s partying with the cosmopolitan jetset that you’re after then head to the Paradise and Super Paradise beaches. For fine dining head to Mykonos Town and explore the winding streets which are laden with a fantastic variety of restaurants and cuisines. There’s not just excellent food on offer; this shimmering hotspot has an array of cocktail lounges, bars and clubs for you to rub shoulders with Greece’s glitterati. Want to sun yourself in style? The island has beach after beach after beach, ranging from party beaches through to gorgeous secluded coves.
Something special – Santorini
Looking for something special? Santorini is the island for you. With breathtaking views and an air of heady romance, Santorini was made for memorable moments and people celebrating special occasions. Have you seen photos of picturesque, white-washed buildings with blue roofs? The ones that look out over miles and miles of incredible, turquoise ocean and cloudless, blue sky? That’s Santorini, and it’s even more magical in real life. The beaches here are unusual due to the red and black volcanic pebbles that cover them and the surrounding cliffs are very steep, creating an incredible and unique setting for you to enjoy the sunshine. There are some sandy beaches too if you prefer something soft to wiggle your toes in.
