Five Resorts Which Are Perfect For Your Family
If Christmas is a child’s favourite time of the year, the summer holidays definitely come close. Weeks and weeks off school. The sun shining, sometimes. And the chance to get out and explore whether that be in their back garden, or in an unknown country where every corner has something to offer.
The summer holidays are the perfect time to get away as a family and the possibilities of destinations to have a great time are simply endless. Of course making the decision on which destination you should choose is slightly difficult.
There are activities for kids to consider. Where you can eat. How long the flight is. And naturally, what’s in it for you, after all, it’s your holiday too.
We’ve handpicked five destinations perfect for keeping smiles on the children’s faces for the entire week, and memories in their mind which will last a lifetime…
The Lake District
The Lake District is 885 square miles of pure adventure. From the mountains, to the forests, to the vast lakes which stretch for miles and miles, there is so much to see and do. Certainly one for the more outdoorsy types, with so many stretches of countryside to enjoy a lovely family walk.
Windermere is one of the most popular destinations for families, with plenty of activities to enjoy both on the waters and off it. Boating is a popular choice, letting the kids take to the waves with you on a rowing boat or even taking lessons canoeing and sailing.
However, The Lakes can, as you imagine, be a rather wet place, but it more than makes up for that with indoor activities perfect for the little ones. The World of Beatrix Potter in the idyllic town of Bowness-on-Windermere takes you into the world of Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddle-Duck and the surroundings which inspired Beatrix Potter to producing her timeless tales.
Elsewhere, there’s the Lakes Aquarium, the Lakeland Motor Museum, and the Whitescar Caves to the east of the Lakes in Ingleborough.
Benidorm is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the planet. And it’s with good reason too. Cheap family holidays to Spain don’t come better than Benidorm with an absolute treasure trove of things to do, from theme parks, to zoos, to simply splashing around in the pool.
Its warm climate is never too blistering for the kids, and with so many other children around enjoying their time in the town, it’s impossible for the excitement not to build. Mundomar is one place which will make plenty of children’s – and adults – dreams come true. The marine animal park showcases a whole heap of exciting animals with its star attraction most certainly being able to swim with dolphins.
The entire town has so much going on for the entire family, from the beaches to the nightly entertainment and the hotels which provide kids clubs throughout the year.
Keeping with Spain, Majorca in the Balearic Islands is also another great destination to take the kids, whether it be their first holiday or a returning journey.
Mallorca is packed with waterparks and fun day trips out, with almost every type of activity covered. For those wanting to teach their children about the culture of the island, then there’s no better place to locate yourself than in Palma, the island’s largest city.
The city dates back to 123 BC and was founded as a Roman camp. Over the years numerous settlers arrived, and its showcased in the intriguing tales and magnificent landmarks throughout the city.
For most kids though, they simply want to play. And with waterparks dotted around the island, they’re never a million miles away from a fun-filled day. The Western Water Park just a stone’s throw from Magaluf town centre is one of the finest on the island with plenty of thrills as well as Children’s Paradise which can keep them entertained for hours.
The island of Sardinia has pretty much everything. A lively city filled to the brim with excellent museums and coastal towns which not only have history, but everything you’d want to relax, and let the kids enjoy a fabulous holiday.
One thing that the children will love is ice-cream. Italy is of course renowned for its ice-cream and you can’t go wrong in Sardinia. The Igloo Gelateria Artigianale in Alghero to the north west of the island is said to do some of the best around, whilst in the main city of Cagliari an ice cream in the Parco di Monte Urpinu is a brilliant way to while away the hours.
A holiday to Sardinia offers so much for children and visiting the stone animals dotted around the island is a real treat. The elephant rock in Castelsardo is one of the best examples and regularly sees folk stop by the rock for the perfect photo opportunity.
The image above says pretty much all you need to know about Orlando. It’s the Magical Kingdom which has been lighting up lives since 1971, and welcomes over 52 million people each year.
It’s every child’s dream, enjoying the world-class theme parks, amazing entertainment, and the likes of Mickey and Mini Mouse who stroll around the resorts mingling with the crowds. However, there is life beyond Disney World too and the Everglades National Park, to the south of Orlando gives tourists the chance to take a boat tour and get up close and personal with one of the Everglades’ famous residents, the crocodile.
