Busy Benidorm: How To Beat The Crowds

Busy Benidorm: How To Beat The Crowds

There are plenty of facts about Benidorm that before you book your holiday give you a little bit of a hint that it might be busy. Firstly, it’s widely regarded as the birthplace of the package holiday. Secondly it has the most high-rise buildings per capita in the world. We probably don’t need to go into further detail.

But don’t let that put you off the Spanish coastal resort. People are arriving at Alicante Airport in their droves for a reason; because Benidorm is such a fabulous resort. It’s just a case of beating the queues. And it can be easily done.

With a little help from us anyway. Here’s our must-read guide for skipping the queues, beating the crowds, and avoiding getting caught in a flurry of tourists in Benidorm.

Book Online

Naturally before you even head to Benidorm you’ll have ideas and lists of what you would like to do. So why not book them before you go?

Benidorm has some amazing attractions like Terra Mitica theme park, Aqualandia, and Mundomar and they most certainly shouldn’t be missed out on because of a big queue. Pre-booking your tickets online will see you skip through the queues and enjoy every adventure the town has to offer before everyone else.

Not only that, but you could pick up a special online offer too, saving yourself some money, which obviously can be spent on ice cream.

Eat Off The Beaten Track

You’re never far away from a restaurant in Benidorm, but amongst the tourist hotspots you could be waiting a while for a table. One way to avoid this is to experience the real Benidorm, away from the burger and chips, full English breakfasts, and fast food which dominate the shoreline.

A taste of real Benidorm culture takes you away from the crowds and dining with the locals. Restaurants tucked away down backstreets such as La Cofradia Vinos Y Tapas off Calle Marques de Comillas, are perfect to escape the bustling town and offer magnificent local cuisine at reasonable prices.

Hire A Car And Skip Town

For some heading on their holidays to Benidorm in 2015, one look at Levante Beach can be the sign that you’re going to head back to the hotel and spend it by the pool. It can get busy. Very busy. Heading out of town will not only take you away from the thousands of tourists, but take you to some amazing sights you wouldn’t expect to see.

Serra Gelada is only a short drive away from Benidorm but in reality couldn’t be any further away. A haven of peace and tranquillity, the natural park offers incredible views over the town and surrounding areas with the mountainous terrain reaching 300m high. It’s around a two hour walk to the summit, but believe us, it’s well worth it.

Further along the coast, Calp, like Benidorm, has a gorgeous beach, ample restaurants, and a number of things to do. However, all in a much smaller, quainter, and more importantly, quieter. Filled with lazy tapas bars and relaxed streets, you can amble through the historic town, soaking up the sun and forgetting about all about the crowds and chaos.

We also couldn’t leave out the Algar Waterfall, a half an hour drive from Benidorm. The waterfall is a far cry from the high-rise buildings and is perfect for escaping the scorching sun and taking a tip in the cool, clear waters.

Known as the “source of health” it’s the perfect refresher and can be topped off with a trip to one of the five restaurants in the area dishing out authentic Spanish food.

See What Your Hotel Can Do

Finally, see what your hotel can do for you. Most hotels have connections with certain theme parks or bars and restaurants and can often help you beat the queues, put you on a guestlist, and even get you into a venue for free.

In fact, your hotel could also put excursions on, meaning you can usually just stroll into places without the need for queuing, and on top of that receive travel included in the price. It’s a thing which happens often in Benidorm with the likes of Aqualandia and Terra Natura regularly welcoming coach parties from hotels.

There’s no denying that Benidorm is a busy place. Almost four million tourists touch down in the town every year, but there are plenty of ways to drop the queues, and enjoy a crowd-free, relaxing holiday. It’s just knowing these few secrets. Shhh…
