I know it’s not even September yet but November will be here before you know it and then it will be too late to book a quick trip to Benidorm for their fabulous fiesta!
From November 9th to November 15th Benidorm hosts a huge party, and it is the main attraction on the Costa Blanca every year. The celebration is in honour of the Patron Saints of Benidorm, La Virgen del Surfrage and Jaime Apostol.
The six days are filled with everything from football to religious processions, live music and fishing competitions. There really is something for everyone. The highlight of the fiesta is the parade, which features huge flower filled carriages and performers in lavish costumes making their way through the streets of Benidorm. Thousands of tourists and locals line the streets to witness this fantastic procession.
As part of the tradition of the festival, the statue of the Virgin is dressed in a golden and blue period costume and carried in a procession to the plaza in front of the church of San Jaime. The streets are decorated with flowers and special flower walls are built.
Music plays a huge part in the festivities and there is a mixture of street musicians, brass bands, rock music and classical concerts. In addition, there are midnight music concerts in the large Auditorium in Aiguera Park.
The event finishes on the 14th with a spectacular firework display but there is an unofficial fancy dress party on the 15th November. Although not officially part of the fiesta the fancy dress party was introduced to the fiesta by British holidaymakers and is traditionally held on the Thursday of the Fiesta.
