Budget hotel, nothing to do with 4 European stars

Room was quite nice and clean. Bathroom was pretty old and demaged. Food and restaurant - not too variable but OK. Very old swimming pool and dirty jacuzzi. Service not really client oriented. Very good location in terms of bus travelling accross all Malta. Far away from the seaside.

The best thing about my stay was...

Close to the bus stop

Requires updating

This hotel is not a four star hotel, as described, we were accommodated in a four bed apartment,in the Bella Vista Suites, a short walk from the main hotel, the apartment included a fridge, microwave, dining table and four chairs, but no crockery, cutlery, kettle etc. The hotel really needs to be updated, the hotel is very dark and drab, possibly due to the low energy bulbs they use, we were on half board basis, the food at times was a lot to be desired, but was edible, but the menu was repeated once or more times in the week. The staff on reception seem not to be helpful, we have friends who live in Malta they had been trying to leave messages for us all week via the reception staff we never received any correspondence from the reception stating that our friends have been trying to contact us, though messages had been left by our friends for us to contact them, most disappointing. There is a bus stop near the hotel, but buses are all ways full by the time the bus reaches this bus stop, due to them leaving the Buggiba terminus, and picking up en route, there are quite a large number of passengers who uses this route,as this is the main route to the capital Valletta etc. The hotel is located out on a limb, you require transport whether it be, a hire car, taxi, bus, there are not many shops in the area at all, eg if you required to go to a chemist etc you would have to go to Buggiba. As we were accommodated in the suites the pathway is very narrow and near a very busy road and very uneven and at times is covered in dog poo which was disgusting, which was never cleared away. The shuttle bus contrary to the hotel description is not free you have to pay euro's 2.90 per person and only leaves the hotel at stated times during the day and evening booked via reception. Drink prices in the bar are expensive this discourages some people like our selfs not to frequent the bar.

Nice friendly hotel

The main problem with the Bella Vista is the location, it is a 20-25 minute walk away from anything else really. I appreciate that the amount of walking time may not appear to be a lot but for someone with mobility issues it is a 'good old whack'. The hotel runs a mini bus service ( which has to be booked ) into Bugibba a couple of times during the day and again a couple of times during the early evening, the evening times are 6 pm and 7pm, you can guess what the evening meal times in the hotel are, come on, you don't need me to tell you do you?, OK,OK, evening meals are from 5.45pm until 8pm. The hotel is however on one half the main bus route, the half away from town, you can go anywhere on the island form just outside the hotel but when you return you have a choice of a 20 minute walk fron the nearest drop off point ( again remember I have mobility issues ) or you can go into the bus terminal and have a 20 minute wait for the bus to re-start its round trip. Meals are decent enough though, there is a salad bar every night, a fish choice and generally 2 x meat choices. Only saw Chips there once in 8 days so that was a plus. Sweets ( for my wife, the greedy little monkey ) were limited, Water Melon or a slice of Gateau. The rooms were good enough as well, they were cleaned daily by very friendly staff and the towels were changed if you left the dirty ones in the bath. We aill not be going back to Malta as we have seen or done everthing there that we wanted to do, however if we were going back, Would we go to the Bella Vista again??, on location again, probably not

Do not book this one never 4 star

Well thought I'd better wait a day upon my return from this hotel before I put my comments on. One thing for sure this is not a 4 star not even in Maltese standards lucky if this would reach 2 star. I have read all the reviews on this hotel before I went they were mixed which I do all the time I have travelled a lot over the last 10-15 years and check all the time but this must be the poorest they ussually say I get 9 out of 10 right this must be the 1 out of 10. where to start staff never smiled now when you are in the hospitality industry that is a must and so unhelpful the majority who were at the hotel said the same in fact it put off a lot of people going back to the island which is a shame we did meet a lot of lovely people which made the trip. Food selection was the poorest I have seen apples cut in to quarters in a bowl of water that was it oranges 1 day done the same way. breakfast poor infact my wife after the 1st day never bothered to get up which is the only time she eats breakfast is when we are away thats how poor never eat at lunch time always out even though we were A/I Evening meal just the same poor qaulity infact our last night we had minute steak (shoe leather) left it bar staff so unhelpful and surly drink was also poor qaulity. our room looked on to the pool dark and a smell of damp was cleaned everyday but that didnt help curtains hard to close bits of skirting missing front door wouldnt close without banging it closed to see properly you had to put all the lights on. Oh by the way if some one has booked and cant get it swapped take ear plugs as the cockrel's abt 4 start at 3/3:30am till about 7:30am and I normally a heavy sleeper so glad to be home get a good nights sleep. Infact 1 guest even called it faulty towers when he had to come back to reception when they gave him a faulty iron board and iron they just shrugged their shoulders. they do have a courtesy bus as you will need it but the hotel never told us or gave you any info about Qwara the hotel is out the way from all shops you will have a good 15-20 min walk to get to town so not best place to stay if you are frail bus tickets you can but on bus either day ticket or weekly is the best but as 2.4 euro for norm ticket 2.60 for day ticket drivers wont tell you that or the hotel staff This was an extra break for our 30th wedding anniversary I now wish I went elsewhere though I did enjoy Malta again but I won't be back here

Very good value for money

All reception staff very helpful - particularly Nadia. Our room was very clean on arrival, and cleaned with clean towels everyday. The restaurant was well run with helpful staff, though some of the chefs looked as if they would rather have been somewhere else. My wife and I stayed half board, the selection at breakfast was very good, lots of choice, english and continental. For evening meal, there was always soup, pasta, a good range of salad with cold meats, and for the main course always a choice of 2 meats or fish, and vegetables. There was also a choice of 3 or 4 different sweets, and cheese and biscuits. The location of the hotel is about 15 minutes walk from the centre of Bugibba, or the seafront at Qawra, but many of the local buses stop right outside. My wife and I have been to Malta many times, staying at several different hotels in the area, all having positives and negatives, but we feel the Bella Vista is very good value, and we will definately be going back.

The best thing about my stay was...

Relaxing in the sun without a care in the world - clean sheets - good food - great people

not a holiday hotel

malta is such a loveley place really enjoyed the island ,the hotel to say we booked a 4 * hotel ,we had a room full of damp and the food was really not 4 *,we payed for a supreme double room only to get twin beds and the constant noise of the main road , dont be sucked in by the supreme room thing as they are really basic as is the rest of the hotel , i must say the staff are great and really friendly , they replaced the headboard in our room without telling us so when we returned to our room in the evening we had to endure a night of smelling glue and varnish and we couldnt open the window because of the traffic noise ,the swimming pool and lounging area only get a couple of hours sun a day and the pool is really small and it really isnt a family hotel ,allinclusive snacks are just sandwiches of which you can only get till 3pm, you can get a few hours of sun at the front of the hotel but it is in the main road although you can go to the roof and sunbathe, all in all an experience i wont want to repeat

The best thing about my stay was...

Good value stay

We (42,42,5) stayed at the Bella Vista for the second time for our two week Easter break. We liked the hotel the first time and knew what to expect the second time. This time, though, there were crowds of student groups in residence which led to a bit more noise than we experienced the first time, and I can see that some people would find that quite annoying. So, the good: - the staff are all great and we found them very accommodating of us and our small daughter. - our room was amply sized for 3 beds and the cleaning was very good. - the food is varied and tasty. - there is free WiFi in the bar and lounge. And the not so good: - the location is nowhere near the centre of the resort. It means a 15 minute walk to the centre, if you don't get the hotel courtesy buses (but these are apparently quite frequent, if very poorly explained! and you can catch buses from right outside). - the outdoor pool gets virtually no sun, and is hence freezing cold. - the indoor pool is very gloomy and the temperature somewhat variable. - the indoor Jacuzzi wasn't working the whole time we were in the hotel - seemingly just because nobody had bothered to fill it up with water. - the hotel has installed low-energy LED bulbs throughout making all public areas about 20% of the level of lighting you would expect. Nice environmentally but rubbish for guests. - the lounge and bar are all part of the reception area which isn't very atmosperic and half of the area is way too dark. - obvious (and cheap) ingredients like cooked tomatoes were never served at breakfast (baked beans every day instead). - "juices" at breakfast were watery and artificial (but this is common to most holiday hotels outside the UK). - vegetables weren't very inspiringly cooked and almost always were coated in cheese. - inconsiderate guests using the pool and being too lazy to get changed in the (murky) poolside changing room, hence travelling dripping wet in the lift to their rooms. So apart from the obvious things above, a few suggestions for the hotel: - a proper leaflet explaining the free courtesy bus arrangements, rather than vague comments from the receptionist about catching the bus "on either side of the road"; - a proper leaflet (with a map) explaining the various route buses available and where to catch them (because there are about 3 obvious places - outside the hotel, at the bus station, and on the road to St Paul's Bay - which take plenty of time to work out on your own); and - improve the changing facilities by the indoor pool and make it clear that guests shouldn't travel wet in the lift. All in all, we still enjoyed our holiday and I'd like to sound more positive about the Bella Vista. It has many good ingredients (particularly the staff) and wouldn't take a lot to be a lot better than it currently is.

2 weeks in the sun before hristmas

my wife and and i stayed at the bella vista 6th to 20th november 2010, on half board.our room was in the suites, which are about 80 yards up the road from the main hotel.at first we were concerned about this,as we had to walk to the hotel for breakfast and evening meals, but we soon adapted.the room was cleaned everyday, clean towels everyday, and beds changed every other day.breakfast was very good everyday, plenty of cereals, continental and cooked.the evening meals were good as well with plenty of choice everyday, and on the 2 or 3 occasions we didnt fancy the menu we walked along the road to qawra and found chaplins pub/diner where we had good food and excellent company.well worth a visit on thursday evenings. my wife and i have visited malta many times and found the bella vista excellent value with very good staff.forget the 4 stars its not the same ratings as in the uk, but you will not get sun, sea, bed, breakfast and evening meal for less than £11 per person per night anywhere in britain

Basic

We are a retired couple was took with them they 17 year old Grandson. Stayed in a 2 Bed apartment at Qawra Point Holiday Centre not at the Bella Vista as advertised. When we arrived there were no 2 beds available only 1 beds, we were first put in a 1 bed with 3 beds in the bedroom certainly unsuitable with a 17 year old, then we were shown another 2 1 bed apartments we took the 2nd one as it had a seaview, we final got the 2 bedroom the following day. these apartment are advertised as a 4 star which they are not, I believe status is only because management is at the Bella Vista about a 1 away from the Qawra Point. The location is better at the Qawra Point than the Bella Vista being closer to the Bus Terminius which is only a couple of minutes walk.

disappointed

We were booked to stay at the Bella Vista at Quara Road, instead we were taken to Quara Point , although this was very clean it was not what we booked, on the first night we were shipped to the Bella Vista for dinner, the rest of the week we stayed at Quara Point, and I must say that the food was less than perfect, it was shipped from the Bella Vista as they don't have the facilities at Quara Point to cook, it was warmed up food, very bland and greasy, the apartment was ok but as I said, not as expected, one of the bedroom windows opened on to a corridor,so impossible to leave the window open,no kettle or cutlery or crockery in the apartment, the holiday was very badly advertised.

The best thing about my stay was...

Vanessa and the rest of the staff.
