Very good hotel with lots of space in public areas and by pool. Breakfast outside was an added bonus.
The best thing about my stay was...eating on the terrace

Excellent staff and a good choice of food
This is our 2nd stay and again the staff were friendly and our room was kept very clean. The food was good, with a wide choice. On both our stays there have been large groups of teenagers staying and this time one group were very noisy and not well supervised. The hotel has a noise problem - thin walls with very poor insulation. We did not sleep well and this was a problem as my husband has a heart problem and needs adequate sleep in order to stay well and to function well.I would return but with ear plugs as the hotel is a good one.
The best thing about my stay was...The help we were given by the the very friendly hard working staff

Beautiful hotel but food absolutely dreadful
Julie Pringle, Ayr
Our fourth visit to this hotel but may well be our last. The hotel is beautiful and very comfortable and the staff are fantastic, but the food has really gone downhill every year. This year there were 3 nights out of the 6 nights where we could not find a single thing to eat. All the meat appears to be swimming in a horrible tomato looking gravy and there is always too much fish. I am allergic to tomatoes, fish and garlic so really struggled. One night we ended up having to leave and go elsewhere to eat and the other nights when we couldn't find anything to eat the only reason we stayed was because we didn't have enough money left over to eat out yet again. The last night I ended up with a plate of chips! The other options were paella which probably had fish or seafood in it, pieces of toast with what looked like toast topper spread on it, veal in that tomato gravy stuff, lamb chops which my husband took and were all bone and not a bit of meat on them, 3 or 4 different types of fish and things like halfed tomatoes roasted and a dish of vegetables done in that awful gravy stuff again. Another weird item was described as "rissoles" and looked like chicken nuggets but when I cut into them some sort of grey stuff oozed out. Absolutely disgusting. They put out a lovely selection of cold meats (3 or 4 different types) and cheeses at breakfast, but not at lunch or dinner. There is plenty of salad stuff available but no cold meats or cheeses to even make a decent salad. A couple of nights they had something like garlic sausage there but that was the only cold meat available. The room we had was on the 6th floor and was perfect as we had asked for a high room with afternoon sunshine. We had a view over the pool and could see the sea very well from there. The rooms are cleaned very well every day and I am sure we also were given clean sheets daily. Plenty of toiletries etc. This is a really nice quiet hotel, not at all suitable for or used by loud groups of party goers. We tended to go up to our room in the evening and sit on the balcony to enjoy the peace and quiet, and after about 10pm there wasn't a sound. The loudest noise was the gentleman in the next room snoring as the walls are very thin and you can hear almost every word through them. There are 3 lifts and you rarely need to wait any length of time for one to get to your floor. The hotel is very close to the front/promenade although back enough for you not to hear any noise from it. It is also very close to the railway station and you can get the train to Barcelona for the day for less than 10 euros return. A stunning journey right along the coast that takes well over an hour and is worth it just for the train ride alone. Get off the train at Place de Catalunya for the city centre with all the shops etc. We booked our transfer via Alpharooms and this is the first year that we have not been dropped at our hotel door, but at the promenade with the instruction that your hotel is "down there" with a vague point down the street. If we had not been familiar with the area it wouldn't have been particularly easy in the dark at almost midnight to actually find it dragging suitcases and me walking with a stick too. We complained when our collection fax arrived telling us to walk up to the prom to be collected, and were given some lame excuse that the road system wasn't accessible or that the road would be closed due to the market being on, but the market had been 3 days earlier, and the road system around that hotel is fantastic for buses to negotiate with a big bus niche right outside the hotel and the road being a squared one way system making it really easy for the driver to get round and back out. They did eventually agree to collect us at our hotel and that was when we found out we were not the only couple being collected by that bus. I doubt we will be booking our transfer via Alpharooms again as that did not happen when we booked it independently on previous years.
The best thing about my stay was...Location of hotel and quietness of area

Friendly and efficient
Behind the seafront hotels, so minimal sea views, but extensive and pretty views in other directions. (However, if you have a bedroom at the side of a seafront hotel, you will be facing into other hotel bedrooms.) Very spacious grounds with plenty of sunbeds. Good food and friendly staff in both the restaurant and reception. I think that the hotel has had an extensive external makeover, but they just gave the inside a quick paint job and put new pine furniture in the bedrooms, with the internal tiling and plumbing remaining unchanged. A very strange concoction. Very few english, mainly german middle aged.

AVERAGE HOTEL BUT IN POOR AREA
Jean Barlow, Wolverhampton
Hotel looks good in brochure photos, but doesn't show that it is surrounded by building sites, and up a rather grotty side street leading off the promenade. My room had awful view as it overlooked an old football stadium which had been razed to the ground and flattened with huge piles of rubble, presumably awaiting building work. My sister's room faced a block of new build flats on which work was still being done so was very noisy at times. Other side of hotel overlooked car park. Only decent view from the hotel bedrooms were those facing the Hotel pools, outside terraces and bar areas which were very nice. Indoor pool good. Restaurant food average but plentiful with good selection to suit all tastes. Rooms OK with large bathroom Small TV on wall with the only English stations being BBC World News, CNN News, and Sports Channel. Evening entertainment OK with variety acts on some evenings, and others had musical duos etc. Separate large lounge with larger screen TV which was almost always tunes into Dutch stations. Most of the guests were from the Netherlands, Germany, France, and Spain. Only few English guests. Staff very helpful and bars and beach bar well run. Hotel clean. Malgrat very disappointing. Although railway line very convenient for local resorts and Barcelona, it ran along the promenade for several miles and so cut the promenade into two sections, with shops on one side, then the railway line, and then the beach area. It was not possible to walk along the promenade and sit looking at the sea and beach. It was only possible to cross over the railway line in a few places, and at night the beach side was in darkness. Even during the day, the beach and sea could not be seen in many places due to the railway line and hoardings obscuring the view. The promenade was really just a row of very ordinary souvenir and tourist shops, and with no sea view. The old town was not particularly old, nor very appealing either. All the other convenient resorts had the same problem with the railway line cutting the promenade into two sections. Santa Susanna was better, Calella disappointing but with very good shopping area. In the other direction Blanes was very nice indeed with the railway station about 2 miles inland. One tip, don't try walking from Blanes railway station into Blanes town, it takes about an hour up and down steep hills. Wait outside the railway station for the Number 4 bus to Blanes and get off at the terminus by the island on the sea front. Ditto for the return journey. Bus runs every 30 minutes. Railway service also runs a connecting service for Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar, which bus waiting for your at Blanes railway station to take you on lovely bus ride to Lloret and Tossa. Buy a combined railway/bus ticket at the railway station. Would not stay at Malgrat again.

Allways a good deal for holidays
Bernd Kraemer, Uebach-Palenberg
As usual, we had a fine stay at the hotel bellaplaya. The food was nice at all times, cleanliness at high standard, everybody was very friendly and helpfull, we allways found a nice place at the pool, no matter what time we came there. You have to be used to guests from the netherlands, most of all guests came from there. Conversations all over the pool, across balconies and the dining room by these people are unavoidable in hotel Bellaplaya. The position in second row of Malgrat de Mar has lots of adcantages for the hotel: it is cheaper, is is quiet in the surroundings, but you are on the boulevard very quickly
The best thing about my stay was...We felt so well, we overslept breakfast two times

Stayed at this hotel June 5 - 13th 2010, have stayed at this hotel before, rooms are clean, staff are very friendly and very accomodating. Breakfast is not the best but you can always find something to eat - dinner ok, although it is hard to recognise what meat you are eating even though they tell you its pork or chicken - dosent taste like it - but it is tasty. Not too much fish - a little disappointing Pool area is lovely and well maintained - Once of the best or if not the best in the Malgrat De Mar area - will return next year again.

We stayed at the Aqua Bellaplaya during June o8 and found it very welcoming, nice looking hotel, very clean and comfortable. We had nice rooms, friendly staff, nice clean dining room, with a good choice of food served buffet style. My only bad point was i was dissapointed with the fish and i am a big fish eater, but otherwise there was plenty of choice at breakfast and evening meal. The evening entertainment was of good standard, the kids well looked after by the Kids club and there staff all day long. Not many English, but that was no problem , mainly Dutch , French and Spanish in the hotel. Very good value for money and i would recomend the hotel.

Positives: The hotel itself is a nice large and comfortable hotel. The pool area is lovely (we had not trouble with getting a lounger however it was getting busier when we left). The staff were lovely - maids clean daily and are non-intrusive and the restaurant/bar staff all friendly. The food was varied enough for all tastes. Hotel location excellent in relation to the beach and central malgrat. We met a lovely couple while we were there and had a really nice holiday. Only 1 hour on the train to Barcelona. Excellent Thai and Chinese restaurant at the top of the market strip near the roundabout - excellent food! Negatives: Despite paying for a requesting a double room, overlooking the pool area with a late check out, we arrived and didnt have any of the three. After 2 days we were able to change to a room on the pool side, but still were unable to get a late check out which was disappointing. Staff on reception were not extremely helpful on this occasion. Malgrat is quite quiet if you are looking for an active nightlife and there are not many quality restaurants. Overall: We had a lovely holiday and would recommend the hotel and the place for a cheap but relatively quiet sunshine holiday.

Very clean, comfortable hotel. Food good, mainly meat/fish based, but also plenty salads, etc., for fussy eaters like me! As we didn't sample Kids' Club, etc.(kids @ gran's while we had a wee cheeky hol on our own!), couldn't comment on these, but would definitely recommend this hotel for short break for the more mature!!
