2/10 Okay

24 November 2013

Absolutely Horrible, Never would go again until management changed

Warning signs prior to arrival when our room was switched without our consent to something different. We arrived, hopeful and cheerful, however from the start we were a bit concerned. Parking was limited due to delivery truck arrivals taking up a major portion of the lot. Our room was lovely, however poor craftsmanship throughout the place was quite evident (lighting fixtures loose, wall paneling off, etc). First day there we were awoken at 8am by sanding, hammering, and construction noises coming directly below us. We literally had to leave the room for both days until about 6pm when the crew left. On top of that, three separate occasions of power being knocked off to our room thanks to the construction below. Food was okay. Most was freshly made minus the toast which was quite stale. While eating breakfast on our first morning there we witnessed several tenants being told that not only could they not speak to the owner, but that they could no longer stay because of a mild complaint about wanting to switch to a different mattress. We overheard the entire conversation and watched them being told to leave which really made us fear even complaining while there else we'd be told to leave with no refunds as well. After two days and three nights (every day filled with LOUD construction noises) we went to check out and complained about the noises. Response we got was "oh well construction shouldn't start before 8:30 am sorry. Absolutely nothing else and they refused to honor a special on their site for rooms booked in November despite ours being book for November and changed without our consent. Fortunately there was some good about our trip. When we came into contact with the staff, they really shined and made it as lovely as possible. Mark, the gentleman who checked us in and served us at the bar, was absolutely fantastic. Additionally, the cleaning lady and serving girls were cheerful and incredibly helpful. The staff definitely made a bad trip seem a bit better and, with a change of management, Aphrodites could be great place to stay. Overall, it’s beautiful place with lots of potential. Unfortunately an absolutely complete lack of care from management for customer experience except for squeezing every penny out of a customer and not even mentioning a RIDICULOUS amount of construction being done during what was supposed to be a lovely and relaxing mini-vacation.

The best thing about my stay was...

Mark was lovely, as were most of the general staff members

Fabulous!

Just returned for this hotel and all I can say is wow! We stayed in a lodge with hot tub and nothing was a problem! The staff were great! The lodge was decorated as I'd asked and cannot complain about anything. Breakfast was great! Lovely grounds, pool and spar.

The best thing about my stay was...

The lodge!

Absolutely awful!

Any advertisement is false advertising. It is in no way a boutique and in no way high quality. The rooms were pokey and small, the 'bar' is a shelf with a few drinks available - if you can get hold of any staff members. The staff members themselves are surly, rude and unhelpful. Don't think about getting any sleep - you can hear every floor board creak, every toilet use, every conversation and noise. There is no sound-proofing at all. We overlooked a hot-tub so I pity the people who had booked that! Nowhere to eat on site and the internet didn't work in my room. All in all it was horrendous and a waste of money. We have notified Trading Standards.

The best thing about my stay was...
