Second time here and pleased to say the hotel is much nicer since the rooms have been updated. Pool area lovely when the scuba divers are not in the pool restricting use. Not much to do around about, limited to a couple of restaurants and no bars apart from the hotel bar. Bus service is good but finished too early in the evening. Lots more to do in St Paul’s Bay and Buggiba.
The best thing about my stay was...Zeus the Greek restaurant up the hill serves lovely food.

Porto Azzurro experience
Betty Cee, Uk
As our holiday was such excellent value as a package, our expectations regarding the hotel were low! However, we were very pleasantly surprised! We would certainly recommend using Alpharooms and, also, select the location. The bus service, right near the hotel, is excellent, and cheap. The actual buses are clean and comfortable and reliable. The meals at the hotel were fine. We loved the bar area and felt that more people should come to frequent it as there was a cosy and intimate vibe about it. We fell in love with Chris the Bulgarian waiter\ barman / chief bottle washer, who was the most cheery and charming of people! He deserves mention, for sure! This is not the liveliest of resorts but it is so convenient to get to most places on the island using public transport. The receptionists were extremely helpful too. The lobby was packed in the evenings with all of the hotel guests using WiFi there. So there was a convivial atmosphere at that time.
The best thing about my stay was...We did not expect a small apartment! It was much bigger than we thought it would be. Plus a lovely sea view over the bay!

Best Hotel in Xemxija
Laura Hubbard, United Kingdom
A brilliant stay. Rooms are basic but this is reflected in the price. Great facilities the pool bar and the restaurant serve excellent food. A fantastic outdoor pool plus indoor pool Jacuzzi, gym, games room, dive shop and mini market. Xemxjia is much quieter than the more 'touristy' areas of Malta but surrounding restaurants offer romantic settings and brilliant food. Great for couples and families. The hotel is right on the shore but there isn't a beach. However right on the doorstep is a bus stop which gives you access to almost anywhere in Malta. Buses to the beach, Buggiba (busy area with bars, restaurants, aquarium, shops), Valletta, Sliema and the airport run every few minutes. Overall a perfect hotel if you want to be in a central location but away from the noise and crowds and don't want to break the bank. Would definitely recommend.

Should be named Rip Off Hotel
Richard Hughes, Shropshire
Very noisy generator was unable to sleep unless you wear ear defenders. We stayed 7 nights self catering only 1 visit to our rooms by maid. When we asked for the bin to be emptied they said do it yourself! Wifi was chargeable with only 1 item if you required 2 devices then it's double the price. Luke warm breakfast. Over charged both at the bar and also mini market. The non English staff looked so miserable as if they didn't want together there. No cocktails served ether at the bar or pool bar. Rip you of when charging for trips or sorting a taxi out. First and last visit to this hotel

This place is definitely not 3 star. I have have stayed in better equipped hostels. Malta is beautiful, we were very impressed with Valletta. The hotel is shabby, extremely basic. The bar smells and is very dark and dingy. Our room was cleaned once in 10 days. My mums room was crawling with ants, she made sure no food was left lying around but still they were there. The internet is hit & miss. The shop has limited stock and you constantly watched like your a shoplifter. There's NOTHING for a child to do here. They advertise a gym, pool table etc none of these exist. The pool bar offers cocktails until you ask for one, then they tell you they have no Ingredients?? The beds are uncomfortable, pillows lumpy. Rubbish bags were not collected from outside our room for 3 days at a time. The only upside to this place is the staff try their best to be helpful. Your away out in the sticks with no nearby entertainment, we went to buggiba most nights to eat. Victoria's was good, quick service, good food. Avoid granny's it's dirty. Oh and the little place next to Victoria's sells rank food too. All in, we enjoyed Malta itself but would never stay here again. Oh one last tip they don't have stickers on all the patio doors, four times we nearly walked into these. Beware you don't get locked out on your balcony as this happened to three of us whilst my ten year old was left alone in the room!!

We stayed in a one bed self catering apartment, in February. On arrival it was apparent that the hotel is in need of redecoration and updating. In the room was a two ring electric table top hob and a microwave for cooking and a fridge. The room was cold and we had to wait till the following evening for maintenance to come and sort it out, however reception did try. The hotel is located at the top of a steep incline It is in a very quiet location surrounded in the main by residential properties. Restaurant was very good. However what the hotel lacks in decor it makes up for with service at reception, especially a lady called Joanne. What an asset to the hotel she is, nothing is too much trouble. You get what you pay for and this is a budget no frills hotel
The best thing about my stay was...Good service

Relaxed and comfortable
Staff were very helpful. Free aircon, which is unusual but good. We went self catering so didnt eat at the hotel. We just bought ham, eggs, cheese etc for breakfast from the local veg guy down the road which set us up for the day, then ate out at night, usually in Bugibba as theres not a great choice in xemxija. Its a fairly quiet area and to get to the beach at meliliha or sandy bay you need to catch a bus, the bus stops very nearby. I liked the quiet of the area but its perhaps not everyones choice. You can buy a weeks bus pass for €21 and we travelled all over Malta and Gozo to see the real Malta too and get more of a feel of the culture. Anyway, back to the hotel. We had a one bedroom appartment. The rooms were large and beautifully clean when we arrived. Yes, you need to buy a few bits like washing liquid, scourers etc which would have been more practical if they supplied these i guess. The appartment was perfectly big enough for two of us. The bedroom window opened up to a very small area where there were pipework etc but to be honest, we were so tired at the end of the day, we just fell into bed and didnt need a bedroom view. The bathroom was really nice and modern. The shower was powerful and worked well. There were fans in the lounge and bedroom which were a godsend as i believe the aircon is switched between alternate sides of the hotel. We had a large balcony with table and a clothes dryer, the view was ok, back of other properties nearby and hills in the distance. Nice to sit out on the odd evening when we were in a little earlier and drink/relax. On our last day we kept our cases in a secure room and we were given free towel and shower use after using the hotel pool whilst waiting for our flight home. It really helped and was a nice touch. I hope they continue to provide this service free along with the free aircon as I believe this is another plus. We would probably stay here again if we visit Malta
The best thing about my stay was...Staff were lovely. Very approachable and helpful

Good structure, but poor administration
The room it self was quite nice, with good bathroom and descent kitchen, but some choices of the administration were awful. The hotel has no Wi-Fi, you have to purchase this service from another company. Also the air-condicioner is said to be "automatic", turning off at very inconvenient times, such as in the middle of the night making the room very warm and hard to sleep.
The best thing about my stay was...The room.
