classy hotel

29 August 2008
I have recently returned from my second stay at The Villa Romana and will certainly be returning some time in the future. The staff are wonderful and most helpful especially Bernardo the Bar manager who just about gets to know everyone, the Food is second to none on the continent with a wide range of choice and different theme nights, if you are a seafood lover the Friday night Gala night is amazing, The air conditioning in the Large bar area is Excellent and most welcome, The pool activities during the day are good too, the entertainment is a little disappointing although there were some very good presentations, The rooms were adequate we had a twin room which was well located and kept spotlessly clean by the House Staff daily. The indoor pool area is in the basement area and also houses two Jaccuzi's a steam room and sauna plus quite a large gymnasium area. The Villa Romana is situated 10 minutes walk from the main beach and 10 minutes from the Theme Park, check out the Spanish Market on a Monday again only 15 minutes walk it is brilliant for your presents and very reasonable. All in all the resort of Salou is quite expensive but this seems to the case now in all Spanish resorts.I would have no hesitation in recommending the Villa Romana hotel to anyone for a relaxing break.

Great Holiday at Villa Romana

06 June 2008
This was our first time at the Villa Romana, and we would come back. We stayed from May 30 till Jun 4th and had a great time. We had a 9 year old and 6 year old. Breakfast was excellent and evening meals were o.k , although not very relaxed if you like to dine out, the staff are friendly and helpfull. The Hotel is clean and the rooms are serviced with towels and linen daily .The is a mini fridge in the room which always useful with children. The pool area very clean with loads of sunbeds with a lovely sheltered aspect and lifeguard is present from 8 till 7 pm daily. It is a 10- 15 min walk to PortaVentura which is well worth visiting. I requested a room on 3rd /4th floor with a poolview based on a previous reviews recommendtion and it was worth it.

Another Great Holiday at Villa Romana

09 May 2008
This is our second time at the Villa Romana, as it was so good last year we had to come back. We stayed from April 29th till May 8th and had a ball. This year our group was bigger with other family members coming on our reccommedation. We had a 12 year old a 9 year old and a toddler in our group of 4 adults, 2 couples , 40yrs and 28yrs. Food excellent and plentiful, entertainment great for the kids and the staff are so friendly and patient that it makes it hard to venture out too far for too long! We could not get a room for grandparents as they booked late and they felt sorely ripped off that they were staying in a place (nearby) that had ridgid rules and a frosty atmosphere. Next year we will be going back again to the same place but will book on time so our group will be much larger! The Hotel is clean and the rooms are serviced with towels and linen daily though not fully washed out etc. but this is not something that interferes with the overall rating of the place. The food is wonderful and varied. Activities for all ages and all ages are encouraged to participate and made feel welcome, 4 times a day! Loads of sunbeds with a lovely sheltered aspect and lifeguard is present from 8 till 7 pm daily. The indoor pool and jacuzzi is worth a visit too. We can highly reccommend the Hotel Villa Romana.

HOLIDAY HAVEN

02 May 2008
I have to say this is a hotel to be recomended - not only are the facilities superb, the staff are second to none and nothing is a problem. Having stayed in Salou on 9 occasions and heading back for our 10th visit this July, the Vil.la Romana is by far the best place we have stayed. We have used three other accommodations, one of which was also a hotel of the same rating, but found it not to be so comfortable for a family and more suitable to older couples perhaps without any children - not so family friendly. The other accommodations were of a self catering nature and were happy with those but having stayed at the Vila.La Romana 3 times already and looking forward to our 4th, by far it was the most enjoyable holiday of all. Location cannot be faulted and the restaurant staff in particular cannot do enough for you to welcome you. I would highly recommend it to either couples or families alike and my extended family are now returning with us for their second visit this summer so they also feel it is a holiday worth repeating.

A great place to take your kids

22 April 2008
We stayed at the hotel in April 2008. Very clean rooms, plenty of space. Lovely pool, internet room, kids club and lots of free entertainment in the evenings. Not suitable really for those without children in my opinion. Food was plentiful and a good standard.

Lovely Hotel

03 April 2008
We've been to this hotel twice over the last 2 years and have booked to go again in May 08. The hotel is very well presented and the staff are helpful. Reception try to help but treat them with respect and manners and it will be returned. The waitresses in the restaurant are helpful and love fussing around children. The food is good although not always very hot. There is a good range and also a show chef who will cook food freshly for you if you prefer your food hotter. The omlettes at breakfast are delicious. Evening entertainment is ok, there are a couple of shows that are good but all in all, it's average. The hotel is very clean and tidy and the cleaners work very hard at all times. All in all it's a great hotel and we can't wait to go back!

SMASHING HOLIDAY

08 November 2007
We have stayed in this hotel twice. We were there last year and again this year. The food is great, smashing variety to suit all tastes. When something is getting low it is quickly replaced. Entertainment well balanced for young and old. Rooms standard but clean. Reception a bit tired around the edges but this adds to lived in feeling. Very handy to theme park and also to Salou centre. Overall comments, would go back again, value for money with great service and food.

THANK YOU 4 a grat holiday!

09 July 2007
We had a great time in Salou and Villa Romana, thank you very much! Staff was very nice, specially restaurant staff - our two boys (3 yrs and 5 yrs) were famous by them. Pool area was ok but could have been little bigger. Rooms are small for 4 people, but we didn't spend too much time inside. Night entertainment was very loud but it was (thank God, specially Karaoke nights were horrible) over by midninght. For sure we will come back!!! Thank you very much!

FANTASTIC THANK YOU APLHA ROOMS!!

31 May 2007
Prior to going to Salou, I had read the reviews concerning Vil.la Romana. And I admiy I was a little nervous because I had always gone through a travel agent before. But thankfully the efficiency of Alpha rooms and everything else just fell into place perfectly. We arrived at the hotel myself, husband and two sons 13 and 10. And WOW, we were very pleasantly surprised!!! The positioning of the hotel is perfectly situated and only walking distance to Port Aventura (the theme park) we had three wonderful days there, the hotel was definitely 4 stars just like it boasts. The food was lovely. The room was just what we needed - cleaned every day. Toiletries supplied, a balcony, tv. A little bit small for a family but so what you only use it for sleeping in!! The hotel has a disco in the evening which was entertaining just to watch others enjoying themselves. But we strolled into Salou most evenings to enjoy a drink in the pubs, visit the Thistle and Rose!! Really nice couple who own it. Dont hesitate to book through Alpha rooms - booking this hotel, you will have a lovely holiday guaranteed!

We have stayed at this hotel before with our Grandchildren. We have just spent a week there as a couple. We found the hotel very efficiently run and the staff very pleasant, helpful and welcoming. The rooms are very clean and towels changed every day. The restaurant has a very varied menu and caters for all nationalities. The hotel is within walking distance of Portaventura and the beach. We would recommend this hotel to anyone and we will be visiting again in August with our grandchildren.

The masons have a ball at hotel Villa Romano

13 May 2007
The rooms were very basic and if the kids were older they would have been too small. The rooms were adequate .....but the food and other facilites were great! Our kids aged 8, our daughter, and 11, our son, just loved the place.....with the fantastic friendly staff and the facilities of the indoor pool with jacuzzi and sauna and the outdoor pool with the the island and all the beautiful palm trees they had the time of their lives. The activities laid on were excellent with an interested and enthuastic staff and the evening entertainment was professional and attention grabbing....so much so that we had to leave the beach area every night to be home by 9.3o,,,,,not a bad complaint. we met lots of lovely dutch people and middle england and scottish and welsh people and we all had the same to say about the hotel... We`ll be back. Points of Note; There are no blocks on the computers available in the computer room so all is available to your children. A great place for all your family to visit but things are finished by midnight for those of us that are used to staying up a bit later and maybe singing a song or two as would be in line with our culture and having a bit of a craic ya know!

Review of 'Villa Romana'

31 October 2006
Good clean hotel. However once we were checked into the room the room was probly one of the most basic we have ever stayed in. No information on room service, hotel facilities, or surrounding area information etc, in the rooms itself. Staff were very helpful. Morning and evening buffet choose was unbelievable. Food quality was good. Not much for eveening entertainment in hotel itself. Lot of mixture of people from different european countries stayed there. Location of hotel was excellent, within walking distance of Salou town centre, beach, theme park and train station for Barcelona (altough trains only ran every one and half hours).

Review of 'Villa Romana'

23 October 2006
Just returned from the Vil. La Romana having spent the October school week there with our children aged 9 and 13.  I echo the comments of others with regard to this hotel which is one of the better ones in the area.  It is ideally positioned for both the theme park, train station (for days out to Barcelona), beach and peace and quiet.  Staff are all very helpful and the hotel kept spotlessly clean.  The food was excellent and varied and we were able to keep the children happy every day.  All in all a really good option for families.  One downside is that alpha rooms are one of the few agents who will offer a room for four people.  The rooms are standard, with two large single beds and a sofa bed which is about the same size as the other beds in the room and is supposed to be for two people.  Four is a squeeze, we made it because our 9 year old was able to share, but for parties with older children or four adults it could be a problem.  I would not hesitate recommending the hotel though.

Review of 'Villa Romana'

19 October 2006
When we arrived in Salou it was raining & the airport looked bleak, but when we rolled up in the taxi to Vil.la Romana were very pleasantly surprised as it looked like an "oasis in the desert" - very attractive in outside appearance compared to the surrounding hotels & lovely warm terracotta coloured buildings. The approach to the hotel is lovely with a small roundabout & monoblock driveway with a bright welcoming reception area, which is vast, clean & tidy with plenty of seating (previous reviews of the reception area quoted tatty old leather sofas which have now been replaced with nice comfy, modern red sofas). The reception desk had plenty of hotel & local information available in several languages & staff always available & very helpful with good spoken English. We got a morning call from reception at excacly the time we specified every day which was great.

The hotel corridors are very bright, clean & attractively decorated (lovely tiled floors), rooms have a sophisticated card swipe entry (which also works the electricity in the room)& are very clean, modern & spacious with nice blue & yellow colour scheme. We asked for a triple room & had 2 enormous (comfy)single beds together & a double sofa bed which was folded out & made up. The bathroom was lovely with complimentary toiletries, plenty clean soft towls, marble effect fittings, huge mirror & plenty room for the 3 of us to be in there all at once! Unfortunately the shower head fixture was broken so we had to hold it by hand. Large mirrored wardrobes (containing a safe)provide adequate storage space + a dresser & chair with TV (lots of channels including sky news & CNN)Balcony was small with a view across to PortAventura from the front, with plastic furniture which was OK on this occasion as we didn't really make use of it, but if staying for 2 weeks in Summer, could be better. Make sure you get a 3rd - 5th floor room for a "glass" fronted balcony otherwise it's solid concrete, would also advise a room on the opposite side from above the bar as this will be quite noisy late in the evening & you WILL hear it in your room. Air conditioning was effective & surprisingly quiet which allowed a comfortable sleep. Sometimes quite noisy late at night along corridors outside room, but this is to be expected in a busy hotel of this size.

Maids did not start their room cleaning rounds until after breakfast (11am)so you weren't rudely awakened from you bed if you didn't need to be.

great holiday

14 September 2006
I have just arrived back from my week stay at the villa romana, it was one of the best holidays i have been on the staff at reception were always there when needed and happy to help, such a big pool and managed to get three sun loungers together for me and my 2 friends everyday no matter what time. The food was fantastic I was worried before going after reading reviews, which stated that the food wasn't that good. There was a different selection each night, fresh cooked pastas and meat, gorgeous curries too, fish and chips, fresh soups and nice puddings I ate so much! pancakes for breakfast was a bonus. Didn't hear any noise late at night yet there are great bars 10mins walk away, I'd recommend 007 an english bar/club great for teens and older couples alike. we had a great night out but when we felt too lazy to go out there was always great entertainment at the hotel, acrobatics, clowns all sorts we never went bored, the bar is huge and such friendly bar staff who we got to know. port aventura theme park is a 15 min walk away its 35euros and worth every penny the best time i've ever had it makes alton towers look rubbish, it's a must. seriously a great hotel for all ages, I plan to go again next year with my mum. The only bad thing i can think of is the fact that you have to buy a swimminig cap 1euro 80,to go in the indoor pool, we only went in once because the cap was so tight and uncomfortable, but that isnt exactly a big deal!

10 August 2006
Stayed at this hotel for 8 days, overall I don’t have many complaints, good location to beach and theme park, very clean with a maid service everyday and clean towels if required, the pool area was always cleaned after the days events before the staff set up for the evenings entertainment.
Most of the staff were friendly but did find the reception staff a bit off and always had long queues. The rooms were nicely decorated and a good size with extremely good and quite air conditioning, with nice size bathrooms and, which brings me on to my first complaint the showers!! If you wanted a shower between the hours of 6pm-8pm (which most people do) then you would need to expect a cold one, we complained a few times only to be told that we were turning the tap the wrong way, I never once had a hot shower and neither did my family who were staying on other floors within the hotel.
The only other moan I have (and this may just be my taste) is the food I have no complains about the breakfast as there was plenty to choose from and the freshly made omelettes were great, it was the evening meals that I found hard to stomach most of the meat was pork or veal only the odd occasion we had chicken but everything was either in a stew or a thick salty sauce which I tried a few times but it all ended up tasting the same. The vegetable were fairly varied but the pots weren’t, just sliced with either bacon one day or leeks the next.
In the end the smell from the restaurant was enough to make my stomach turn over and we ate out for the rest of the holiday.
The restaurant is very big therefore gets very busy, you have to battle through the crowds just to get back to your seat with your meal.
I have stayed in a 4 star hotel in Majorca last year and the standard of the food there was excellent I use to look forward to going for dinner and never wanted to eat out we also were allocated the same table for the duration of our stay which was a nice touch.
So if your not to fussed about food and don’t mind cold showers then this hotel is worth a visit.

Hotel clean, althought there was a strange smell for part of our stay! Plenty of choice for evening meal and breakfast. Entertainment was a bit of a let down but did improve as we went into july. Felt very safe no drunks!! Bar staff were excellent! Would recommend this hotel. We are returning this may. Salou is brill and the hotel is in a good location but quite far from the beach, my 4 year old struggled on the return so had to hire a buggy. All in all this is a great hotel well worth 4 stars!!!

A Fantastic holiday at 'VILLA ROMANA'

06 August 2006
I am a family man who had never been to mainland Spain until the family holiday.
The rooms were well appointed, with a nice bath room.
the hotel was lovely, the staff were fantastic, they made a great fuss of my childen.
There is a good kids club and the pools are great.
The food was fantastic with a great choice at every meal.
You can usually judge a holiday on how well the children ike it and enjoy themselves. My son (5yrs) has not stopped sking if we can go back to Saluo to stay at the Villa Romana.
I would have no problem recommending the hotel, and have already done so to many of m friends and family

Excellent Hotel probably the best in Salou.
The Hotel is very clean and the choice of food is first class.
Location is perfect for Port Aventura, shopping, rail travel and the beach with no taxis or buses required at all.
Entertainment everyday and was generally very good.
No towels allowed on sunbeds prior to 9am which is very fair and if your reserved sunbed is not occupied prior to 11.30am then the towels are removed and piled in a shopping trolley for collection by irate holiday makers who cant believe it !!

Review of 'VILLA ROMANA'

19 July 2006
My wife and I have recently returned from a 1o day stay in the villa romana and we can honestly stay that the hotel and its facilities were certainly worth the reviews that have been written by previous guests. As described by Alpha rooms, and also in tour operators brochures the villa romana is about 800m from the entrance to Port Aventura Theme park. It is a slight uphill walk on the way there but at least its downhill when you are feeling tired!!! The hotel is also about 800m from the beach and is well located for all bars/restaurants/shops but not that close that you hear drunkards returning home. In fact the only noise we heard after 23.30 was the theme park nightly firework display. The hotel rooms are well presented and kept spotlessly clean by the maids. There is a large balcony and also a clothes airer which is great for drying your towels/swimwear. No towels hanging over the balcony! Whilst the room was plenty big enough for the two of us I would suggest that it may be a squeeze sharing with teenage children. If you want a pool view ask for even numbered rooms i.e 3202/3204 etc. The hotel caters for all nationalties and there were large groups from the UK as well as France and Germany. The pool area is a good size and kept in a clean condition. There are about 250/300 sun loungers which you cannot go on until 9am and another good thing is that the lifeguard will not allow people to put towels on loungers and then disappear for the day. At about 10.30 he will go around the pool and remove towels from loungers where there appears to be nobody around. Now to the food. We were on an half board basis and the food was excellent. It was buffet stlye for breakfast and evening meals but there were also chefs available to cook fresh pancakes and omlettes in the morning and steaks/fish/pasta etc in the evenings. There was a wide and varied choice everyday and the quality was very good. Evening entertainment was provided and was typical of holiday hotel entertainment. The hotel also had a games room inc table tennis/pool etc. There is a large luggage area for your first/last days and shower rooms with towels provided. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful and could speak many languages. All in all an excellent time and a hotel we would have no hesitation in recommending.

VILLA ROMANA, excellent choice

27 June 2006
Have just returned from a stay at the Vil la Romana. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to family and friends.
We arrived at 10.30am, but had to wait until 1.45pm before our rooms were ready.
The rooms were spotlessly clean,as described in earlier reviews, and fresh towels were plentiful.
You are able to leave a deposit at reception if you wished to use the phone in your room to ring home, far cheaper than using your mobile!
The breakfasts were excellent, but I found the evening meal to be boring after the 2nd day, much of the same, particularly the desserts, which were tasteless!!
The freshly cooked food is the nicest, worth the wait whilst the chef cooks it.
If you are there half board they will allow you to eat lunch in place of dinner, should you wish.
Do not hestitate to leave your towels on the sun loungers, everyone else does it and the hotel takes no notice, so if you can't beat them,(which you can't,) then join them. most towels are placed on the sun loungers by about 8.30am, so be warned.
I would  definitely stay here again, but only bed and breakfast!

On arrival at 10am we had to wait for a room until later as it was not ready which was a bit of a pain as we had travelled through the night and not had any sleep. We went back to reception which was clean and bright and has large comfy sofas at the given time and the room still wasnt ready (after 2pm) and we could see reception checking spanish guests into their rooms so perhaps a bit of favouritsm there. The room was clean and slighlty larger than others we have had in spain although clothes space is limited (take extra hangers). The beds were very comfortable and the childs sofa bed was excellent. The meals all buffet style were excellent and we were never short of something to eat, every night a salad selection different meats and vegetables a carvery joint and stir fry although the kids choice was limited (nothing like pizzas or speciality for them). Breakfast has the best selection we have had in a hotel for a long time. Fresh omelettes and eggs fruits and cereals and hot and cold buffet items. The pool is excellent indoor and outdoor enough sunbeds for everyone and towels can be hired for 10 euro deposit each. The entertainment was better than the usual standard. The restaurant staff and bar staff were helpful and friendly. We would definately recommend this hotel and will stay there again.

Hotel certainly merits its 4 star rating. Rooms very spacious with fresh towels daily (if req'd) rooms tied daily, always very clean, and linen changed twice weekly. Cleanliness of reception areas etc also could not be faulted.
Wide variety of food available daily from the buffet stations (salads, several hot foods etc) as well as the facility to have food prepared as you waited. Meats, fish etc cooked by the chef as you watched!!!
Hotel is central for all main amenities with good bus and rail links to all surrounding attractions. i.e. Barcalona, Tarragona, La Pineda etc.
Port Aventura well worth a visit for kids of all ages!!!!
Would recommend anyone staying at this particular hotel.
Gold star to alpharooms too for the very simple but efficient method of booking accomodation. I don't think I will use high street travel agents again.

This hotel is in an excellent position, ten minutes walk to the beach and 10 minutes walk to Port Aventura theme park. The hotel is also very close to the train station where you can get a train to Barcelona which takes 1hr 20mins.
The hotel is very clean with helpful staff and good facilities. It has a nice bar area with comfortable seating, internet access and a small games room. We did not use the outdoor pool as we was there in April, but we did use the indoor pool, where there is also a steam room, sauna and gym.
The dining for the hotel is buffet style with a good choice of food for everyone. There is also chefs cooking omlettes etc for breakfast and fresh fish and meat on request for dinner.
I would highly recommend this hotel and will be going back soon.

Review of 'VILLA ROMANA'

We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff are friendly and helpful. On arrival we had plates of food and drinks waiting for us in our room. The rooms were very clean and attended to every day. The dining facilities were good and, apart from my 6 year old, we found it difficult to choose our selection from the menu. The 'in house' entertainment was enjoyable but not for more than 1 or 2 evenings. The hotel is in a good location, only a short walk to Port adventura or the beach. Loungers at the pool were easy to come by (the outdoor pool was not for the fainthearted) and the indoor pool surrounds were very slippy, and the sauna/steam room not available. I would recommend this hotel.

Review of 'VILLA ROMANA'

At first impressions on arrival the Villa Romana looked like a waiting room, the entrance area is full of shabby chairs and bored looking tourist. Unfortunately the rooms were not up to a four star rating and the claim of a mini bar is laughable (This is in fact an empty fridge that you fill yourself). There is little storage in the room other than a large wardrobe with a couple of shelfs. You have to pay for the privilage of using the safe in your room which at 20euros a week is a little excessive. We were given no information on arrival at the hotel and the booklet in the room does little to enlighten the guest to the services available.
The meals get very monotonous after the first few days and alarmingly you start to see meals being recycled at following meal times. There is little choice if you have young children, my son (2 1/2 years)won't eat anything he can't identify and unfortunately sometimes I could not identify the meals available either. The Staff in the restuarant however are extremly freindly.
The pool side is dangerously slippy when wet, there were a couple of minor incidents whilst we were there, including my friend's three year old going head first into the deep pool. The pool itself on closer inspection could do with a clean in places.
The 'Kid's Club' consists of a room full of broken toys and crayons and a TV, the girl who sits in there is pleasant enough however you cannot leave younger children alone as the children a free to come and go as they please. The evening entertainment, although probably brilliant for slighly older children, gets very repetative after a while as does the evening entertainment for adults.
In short the four star rating on this hotel surprises me, and I would not book here again, nor would I recomend it to anyone who prefers to holiday somewhere that does not reek of Butlins/Pontins style holidays.

Hotel location is great if you are going to Port Aventura as it is only up the road (900m). Otherwise a long way from the beach. But the beach is packed anyway so maybe worth not going to Salou for the beach. Instead take you car to Cambrils or even to Tarragona which is lovely.

The food was very good with a good choice and something for all ages. The hotel itself was clean but the main antrance hall is full of sofa's which really ned a clean and make it look shabby. We found it a bit strange that they only clean the rooms every other day which is not standard.
The staff were ok and fairly friendy.

Watch out if taking a car as you will end up having to park underneath the hotel at 35 euros a week as the other spaces outside ar all taken by other tourists going to Aventura.

We are non-smokers and we found the indoor entertainment a bit of a nightmare with the level of smokers around and this spoiled a lot of this element for us.

Although clean and friendly I would not go again as, although this is supposd to be a 4 star hotel, I would rate it as 3/4 star.
