Just returned from weekend in Porto staying at Vila Gale. Although the area around the hotel is not fantastic, you never felt threatened, and we stopped on a couple of nights for a nightcap at the little bar across the road from the hotel. The hotel itself was great, with the metro station just across the road, buses and taxis all on hand, and only a 10 minute walk from the main shopping area. We asked for a high floor and from the 17th floor we had a wonderful view down to the river. The room was excellent, could not fault it, complete with hairdryer, fresh towels every day, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good and plentiful, with a varied selection for everyone, whether you wanted hot or cold food. Would definitely use this hotel again.
