09 October 2009
We booked 9 nights in a junior suite through Alfa Room and were very lucky to be given room 157 with the largest balcony in the hotel complete with seats a table and sun beds. Fantastic views over the bay and just across the road from the lovely sandy beach. Very nice Hotel with helpful and friendly staff. Good food; not the massive choice that you would get at a larger hotel with more stars but more than adequate none-the-less. Good standard of cleanliness in the rooms and throughout the hotel. Only minor gripe was that the beds seemed very narrow; great care had to be taken when turning over!! The main resort is a 15-20 minutes walk along the prom. Flights with Ryan Air were cheap and arrided on time. We paid extra for priority booking and managed to get the front row both ways. Our transfers booked through Alfa Roms were well organised and spot on time. Nice coach and helpful drivers. Don't miss Puerto Pollensa market on a Wednesday it's located behind the Daina Hotel. From what we were told, the holiday reps don't seem to mention it at their welcome talks. I guess that's so they can encourage people to book places on trips to other markets! We went on the NoFrills coach trip to Palma. At 16 euros each it was good value with a very good courier on the coach and a voucher for a free tapas and drink thrown in. Local bus services ate frequent and cheap and boat trips to Formentor and furthur afield are available if you want. Ideal hotel and location for a quiet relaxing holiday. As a final bonas the weather in early October was superb.

Young (in mind) mid 50's couple

06 September 2009
We returned yesterday from a one week break at the Uyal Hotel and would highly recommend it. We found all the staff to be very helpful and extremely friendly, the food was excellent and bedrooms and all public areas spotlessly clean. As other reviewers have mentioned the pine walk is a must do, albeit about 30 minutes walk away from the Uyal, but who cares when the sun is constantly shining! There is a local bus stop near the hotel and we found the bus service excellent for getting about the island (and they run on time too!). Another tip which someone else did mention in an earlier review is do take a travel hairdryer as there wasn't one in our room. All in all an excellent week.

stayed at uyal july 09. would recommend this hotel to anyone.staff very friendly and the food excellent.rooms were quite spacious(we had a junior suite in main building with sea view)and very clean.would have liked a fridge in room to store water etc instead of mini bar, right across the road from beach(not noisy though).overall a really good hotel in a good location and my two kids loved it which makes a big difference too

Late bookers

10 July 2009
Very pleasant traditionally styled hotel and very convenient for the lovely beach just across the road. Booked a junior suite with front facing sea view. Lots of space but didn't use the terrace much as not particularly relaxing due to traffic noise. Traffic not a problem for sleeping though as the bedroom is in the middle of the long suite. Room was very poorly lit but you do get a minibar fridge - great for keeping your own drinks cool! The Uyal seems to be popular with rather mature couples but there were some families and I imagine the numbers will increase during the school holidays. The pool area is inadequate for the number of guests and we didn't get to use it at all during the week. Generally, staff were pleasant but as said by others 'service' in the dining room could be a bit abrupt. Waiters are really just there to serve wine and clear up. They are a small staff and probably don't have time for the niceties. Normally do self catering so not used to the self service buffet thing and ate out in restaurants mostly. Food was quite good though but just couldn't imagine eating there for two whole weeks. I would say Hotel is a 15min+ stroll to the centre and a further 10 will take you right up the Pine Walk. You can rent a bike from the hotel, 7 euros for a day or 3 for an hour and there's a good cycle track between PP and Alcudia. The Uyal is a very well presented and value for money hotel but probably just not our style.

Uyal Comments!

07 July 2009
Just back July 09 from a wonderful holiday at this hotel. Slight reservations re food etc from previous comments, however no worries at all, dinners were always well cooked and high quality although not enormous selection but always replenished with fresh selection throughout the service. Breakfasts could be a hit or a miss though. Would advise preselection of rooms when booking as we prebooked sea view etc and had great views, room with large lounge and terrace. spotless cleaned every day. Rooms in annexe also seem good quality with good views and newer builfing. Heard though there are a few rooms with no terrace which are very basic and in fact given courtesay room for showers etc on day of departure and amazed at the difference so be careful when booking! Hotel is traditional Spanish and very clean. Staff extremely friendly and helpful throughout. Would definately return as directly opposite beautiful beach, about 10mins walk to town centre. Maybe too quiet for younger guests but entertainment every second night and varied and bars in surrounding area too, bus stops nearby for Palma, and surrounding resorts.

FAB HOTEL!!!

28 June 2009
Just returned from a week at the Uyal. Hotel is very good. We had a sea view room in the annex which was excellent. The food is very good, with lots of choice. Hotel is very clean and the staff are friendly. Takes 10 - 15 mins to walk to the resort centre, but pleasant walk and flat all the way. No kettle in room so might be worth taking your own. No complaints at all about the hotel and would definitely stay there again.

We had the pleasure of staying in Puerto Pollensa during the monsoon season that hit the island during the first week of April 09. We unfotunately had the years rain that week. None the less we had a great time. This end of the island is very picturesque and there is loads to do. The hotel was extremely quite - could have been the general ager being 60 plus. However, that was a nice change as we could be in bed at eleven and listening to the waves break on the beach. The accommodation was more than adequate but the food left a lot to be desired. Whilst there was a variety of dishes offered on the buffet they were pretty poor quality and made school dinners appealing. There was also a lot of occassions which food left over from the previous day reused. Not good. the service staff where friendly which was more than could be said for reception and senior dining room staff. There was no effort to greet guest and and discussion would be instigated by the guest - that was a pity because it did not make you feel welcome. However, all said the hotel was worthy of a european 3* rating.

only 45 min from airport.we shared a triple room in the annex on the ground floor with a huge patio area with sun loungers.it faced on to the beach and although on the main road it wasnt too noisy.room basic but very clean.dont book room 105 as we unfortunately had damp in our room and without the airconditioning on the room smelled. The old part of hotel is lovely and although pool area small it was lovely, with nice pool bar and very friendly staff. Food very good but drink very expensive.entertainment in hotel ok but for the more mature person.if you are up early for return flight they will give you coffee and crossaunts, very nice. excellent location, 10 minute walk to the town centre with lots of shops, bars, rest etc.beach is very clean but expensive for sunbeds, with loads of water sports. bus stops are very handy for alcudia,15 min,1.10 euros. we went on market day, fantastic.taxis are good also.we got taxi to pollensa old town for 9 euros,15 min.pub imperial for cheap drink and good entertainment.tony the barman is very funny, mostly british crowd, very friendly, get there around 8.30 for a seat as small bar.pine walk is good if you fancy the excercise.

First stay at this hotel. No hesitation in recommending it to others. Fantastic location, rooms are basic but clean. Food is good, but I don't really go for the buffet style. We were on the first sitting and you do get the feeling of being rushed, dinner is n't the event it should be if, for instance you went to a decent restaurant. Plates are whisked from in front of you within seconds of finishing whether other people on the table have finished or not.Breakfeast is good. So perhaps B&B would be my suggestion. I would definitely stay again but B&B and a room with a sea view and a balcony must be a stipulated.

This was our 6th stay at this lovely hotel. It has a traditional Spanish feel to it with old fashioned charm missing in many others. We booked a suite, which gives you a lounge area with fridge (great for the beer and wine!). It is worth booking half board as the food is excellent with plenty of choice, we also ate out a few times too. The beach is just accros the road, sun loungers 11 euro a day for 2 with parasol. Yes many of the guests are elderly, but at least youre not kept up all night with partying. Uyal is set in a quiet area, about 10 mins walk from the main resort. Will definitely be going back. I think it is worth asking for a room in the old building, with sea view balcony, you wont be dissappointed.

A disappointment.

22 May 2008
Poor reception, just given keys and left to find annexe at 10 pm. Not friendly. Room basic, did not get requested front sea view. TV was ancient small portable model. Room cleaning just O.K. Meals all good, and restaurant and bar staff friendly and helpful. Main building well-designed - no-one told us there were facilities for wash and shower before departure. Well-positioned with short walk into Puerto Pollensa, but would not stay again.

We had a great time out and about every day.... and we appreciated the convenience of half board. Yes, we probably were the youngest couple there but it didn't matter. The food was great and the room (a suite) was great. We would stay again.

Beautifull location, good food ,clean basic accomadation .

06 May 2008
This was our first visit to this hotel .We found its location excellent only yards from the beautifull beach at the quiter end of the beach. The hotel was clean, the rooms however are basic. we had three double with a side, sea view in the annexe .There was no entertainment and drinks were a lot more expensive than in the other hotels bars around .Cleaning staff were very friendly yet we found the other staff a little abrupt but i feel it was more a cultural communication issue. The pool area is small and dated .The main building is designed nicely and as we said in an excellent location. Food is good freshly prepared . We had a reduced rate on the rooms but wold have not found it value for money if we had paid full price . We went to another hotel around the corner for evening entertainment where the staff are funny and friendly and the drinks cheaper .

A week climbing

21 April 2008
This was my second time in Puerto Pollensa, an excellent base for a holiday. Previously I stayed in a hotel that is closer to the 'centre' of the town: the Uyal is about 1.5km along the front. I stayed in the annex of the Uyal, a relatively modern building next door to the original block. The room was large and well-equipped and had a balcony with a seaview. All the facilities worked well, and my only complaint is that previous occupants had smoked and the room smelled of this most of the week - the Uyal does not have non-smoking rooms, even though the agency appears to offer this possibility. I made a complaint to the management at the Uyal and hope they take notice. The food was of good quality for a hotel at this rating, and there was always an adequate supply. The staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. This hotel delivered good value for money.

Easter Break 2008

31 March 2008
This was our second stay at the Uyal having visited there four years ago. We were so glad when we arrived to see that it hadn't changed at all. The staff were very welcoming, even remembering us from the last time we stayed there. The food is excellent, rooms spotlessly clean and very comfortable. We stayed in the 'old part' of the hotel which has plenty of character, although I would recommend when booking make sure you have a sea or side sea view with a balcony. This time we didn't and our room only had a small window which made the room quite dark and claustrophobic. This was not a problem at this time of year, but I could imagine it being quite hot and stuffy in the summer, although they do have air conditioning. The hotel is ideally situated for the resort of Puerto Pollensa and sightseeing around the island. We will certainly be returning in the future.

Stayed at the Uyal for one week on half board in the old part of the hotel. The room was furnished Spanish style and was kept spotless all week. The food was excellent although the dining room staff were very efficient they did not seem very friendly. We went on some excellent excursions from the hotel with a local coach company.

An excellent place to stay !!!

19 September 2007
We stayed at the Uyal for one week at the end of August this year. Our stay in this friendly, and effieciently run hotel was made very comfortable. The food was excellent, and particular praise to the chef's, who day-in and day-out, produce a gastronomic feast, which cater's for both English and Continental palates. All of the staff were friendly and very helpful, and really couldn't do enough for you. We will certainly be booking this hotel again.

A haven of respectability!

28 April 2007
We only stayed one night because our villa was not ready for us, but right from the moment we walked into the cool, classy reception area - we liked it! The Reception staff were excellent, very professional, their english was great too! The room was simply but adequately furnished and everything is so clean! Dinner was interesting - though not sure how much variety there could be if you stayed a week or so. Lots of german folk there - even more cyclists filling up on plenty of carbs before riding off into the beautiful mountains. We loved it - and would go back!

Ok so Fuertaventura is for couples, and that what we were! The apartments were quite well, charming apart from the unbearable heat at night, there is no air conditioning which is a big draw back to the place. Its location is fairly good only a few minuets stroll to the local resturants and a 2second walk to the nearest supermarket. The pool area is gorgeous pleanty of sun beds available and pool side bar is decent.Nightly entertainment is entertaining to say the leas!

Had a room in the older section which was very nice and had charm.  Other people didn't really like the new section but then they stayed on the beach and only needed their room for sleeping and washing. Rooms cleaned  and tidied daily and public areas were spotless.  No kids club so children behave as well as their parents which when we stayed was excellent. Limited entertainment and shared with sister hotel Pollensa 30 yards away.  Beach opposite was excellent, sandy and very clean although crossing the road at times could be hairy but local traffic sympathetic when you used the propoer crossings!!! Staff excellent and very helpful.  Food OK but organisation and placing of some food a little silly. Why put the butter in the main dining area away from the toaster and jam at breakfast? Silly but irritating.  Food arrangement could have been spread out better so less confusion to the English who insist on waiting their turn and queuing all the time.Walk into the town takes about 10/5 mins   good exercise which we didn't need but a lot of guests did.

28 August 2006
Requested Seaview and well worth the extra.  View excellent. We were in the Annex next to the main hotel in a three bed room.   Room very good size but third bed had no bedside table or light otherwise the room was good as was daily clean.  It would have been better to be in main hotel as key for the lock to the entrance door of annex was a pain. We were on 4th floor so good view from balcony and above traffic on road in front of hotel. Lower rooms could well be a bit noisy in annex. Main hotel is attractive and has good bars and lounge area.
We were on half board. Evening meal in two sittings and buffet style.  Can help your self to as much as you want.  Salads and cold meats very good.  Hot meals variable and vegetables always over cooked.  Desserts good.  Overall food average. Breakfast was generally good with fruit, yoghurts, cereals, toast and cooked breakfast available on buffet style. Bread was on dry side and sometimes cooked breafast was disappointing with strange cooked ham.  If fried eggs and bacon was on it was excellent.
Hotel is about a mile from Puerta Pollensa, 15 minutes fast walk.
Outside bar very nice and about 3 nights a week had live entertainment which was good.  Pool area not large but ok.  Beach very near and nice and sandy.
Car parking no problem.
Overall would definitely recommend especially if could go B & B.

Review of 'UYAL'

14 August 2006
The Uyal, which we had considered to be a stop gap betwwen other hotels simply for two nights whilst travelling Mallorca, actually turned out to be very good. Our accommodation, booked through Alpha Rooms, was in the main hotel and was very spacious with a good sized balcony offering a side sea view - more than we had been expecting.

The dining didn't suit us, but everyone is different, if you prefer reminders of home style food then it could be for you, however if you were to travel on a b&b basis there are simply dozens of restaurants within a comfortable stroll, catering for all tastes.

The main hotel, particularly the reception area and first floor above exudes a laid back charm and it's location is perfect for beach lovers.

Puerto Pollensa has a very English resort feel but not in the football shirt and pint of John Smiths sense, it is an elegant, in places, resort and yet has plenty to keep age ranges occupied.

All in all a very good unexpected 'find', we wouldn't hesitate to go back.

ThE HOTEL UYAL HAS A FABULOUS LOCATION AT THE EDGE OF PUERTO POLLENSA WITH A 10 TO 15 MINUTE WALK ALONG THE PROMENADE INTO THE TOWN.
THE ROOMS ARE CLEAN AND THE MAIN PART OF THE BUILDING TYPICALLY SPANISH.
THE HOTEL IS QUIET AND THE FOOD ALTHOUGH LIMITED IN CHOICE WELL COOKED AND PRESENTED NICELY.
THE ANNEXE BUILDING BECAUSE OF ITS DESIGN IS NOT VERY WELCOMING BUT IS SIMPLE AND CLEAN.
I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL FOR ANYONE LOOKING FOR A TYPICAL SPANISH HOTEL THAT IS QUIET AND COMFORTABLE IN A GREAT POSITION WITHIN REACH OF THE TOWN CENTRE BY FOOT ALONG A FLAT PROMENADE.
I WOULD ALSO RECOMMEND THAT YOU BOOK A ROOM IN THE MAIN HOTEL BUIDING AND AS THE HOTEL IS DIRECTLY OPPOSITE THE BEACH A SEA FACING ROOM IS NOT ESSENTIAL.

Hotel Uyal is in a perfect location - right on the beach and only 10 minutes walk from the centre of Puerto Pollensa.  After selecting breakfast - continental style or a good old fry up, you can sit in the dappled light where you're pleasantly shaded by trees, or relax by the pool.
Dinner is buffet style and delicious!
The rooms are clean and tidy and well kept.
All in all hotel Uyal makes for a perfectly tranquil holiday.

Review of 'UYAL' April 2006

15 April 2006
Old fashioned hotel with newer extension across the side road. It is a short walk into Puerto Pollensa along the front. Rooms in the extension were nothing special with fairly basic non- matching furniture and fittings, and, while we were there. sewage coming up into the bath. We were assured this had already been put right and it had, but it was alarming at the time. They were prepared to swap our room but we decided against the trouble and stayed, and it didn't happen again. It is worth bearing in mind that sea-facing rooms in this hotel face east, so get the morning sun only. Food at breakfast and dinner (both buffet) was good, varied and plentiful and the staff were pleasant. We felt that £355 for 9 days half board for 2 was good value.

Just 10minutes from the centre of Puerto Pollensa, the Uyal is in a wonderful position- overlooking the beach and the bay of Puerto Pollensa. The only drawback is some traffic noise particularly in the morning & evening.

The rooms are comfortable and clean.Though no hair dryer! It was very easy on arrival presenting the Alpha Rooms voucher.

The food is all served as a buffet which means that most tastes are catered for, particularly good is the salad bar which has a brilliant range of salads. Breakfast caters for all tastes from fruit, to cheese and ham to traditional English breakfast or croissant.

They were very good at arranging a hospitality room (to change in and have a wash) that we could use on the day we left as we had a late flight. Luggage could also be left in the lobby.

Puerto Pollensa is an excellent resort if you are looking for a quiet resort with a beach and walking in the hills behind. Some watersports were available. Good promenade walk along the front with a range of cafes and restaurants.

It is easy to visit other places by bus. We stayed in October for a week when it was quiet - it would be very different in August.

It was very enjoyable and relaxing and we'd be happy to go there again.

We stayed 8 nights at the Uyal after three nights in Palma and three nights in Puerto Soller.  At first we were disappointed with our "standard" room which seems sub-standard for present times, having no balcony, poor lighting and only the basics.  After 4 days we up-graded (at a cost of 19 euros per night!!! to a junior suite facing the sea with a huge balcony and we were very happy there.  The food was excellent and the staff helpful.  We would stay at the hotel again but only in a superior room.

We have just spent 2 wonderful weeks retirement holiday at the Uyal and were very well pleased. We were in the main (older) part of the hotel and had a huge balcony with sea view which also overlooked the three-times-weekly entertainment when it was performed outdoors. (Don't miss Tuesdays). The buffet meals were excellent (we had 14 different starter soups in 14 nights stay) with several choices of hot and cold meals all well-presented. The staff were all helpful & friendly. The resort is best suited to young families and the more mature.

This small friendly hotel is overlooking the bay of Puerto Pollensa, and approx. a 10 minute level walk along the promenade into the centre of Town with all its amenities, coffee bars, weekly market etc. The soft sandy beach is just across the road from the front of the hotel.

The Hotel is clean, the staff friendly and helpful, and the food was excellent.  The Hotel comprises two separate buidings situated next door to each other, both overlooking the sea. The main building is typically Spanish in design whilst the newer "annexe" is more modern and just houses bedrooms.  All meals are taken in the main building.

We are both in our 60's and found the situation of the hotel and everything it had to offer was excellent, whilst younger families would also enjoy a stay here in our opinion.

There is a swimming pool, occasional evening entertainment, board games, TV lounge, reading room and of course an excellent bar!

This is the first time we have organised our own "non-package" holiday and would definitely stay here again in the future, and would also book again through Alpharooms.

Old World Charm at The Uyal

24 March 2005
The Uyal is in a prime site in the quiet and picturesque resort of Puerto Pollensa. Endowed with an almost English old world charm and set back from the road among palm trees it evokes the atmosphere of an Agatha Christie novel. The en-suite rooms are spacious and clean and the dining room is a joy to eat in with its separate tables and sea view. We were surprised and delighted on our first morning to find all the ingredients for a cooked English breakfast at the self-service buffet ! The Uyal has full marks for service, courtesy and style and our sincere recommendation.
