I spent a few days here on my own at the end of January: I was greatly blessed with the weather which was warm and sunny all week (after two weeks of rain before my stay), though the nights were cool and damp. I arrived about 5.15 pm and received a warm welcome from the manager (director), was shown to my apartment where the heating had been left on (oil-filled radiators in living-room and bedroom, there's also a big fireplace if you wanted to use it).
The apartment was spacious with a large living/dining room, kitchen with a table and chairs, bathroom, and bedroom. There was plenty of wardrobe space, and spare blankets which I was glad of! The bed was very comfortable with excellent pillows. The kitchen was equipped with a full cooker, microwave, coffee-maker, and fridge-freezer, pots and pans all in a good state. Everything was very clean and a lady came every day to make the bed, clean the bathroom, empty the bins etc. The manager asked every time he saw me if everything was OK (I kept forgetting to ask about the Portuguese TV channels).
I was in the block beside reception and it was very quiet indeed - I couldn't hear a thing at night and slept very well. There was a south-facing balcony outside the kitchen which was great for having breakfast in the morning sunshine, and there was a wrap-around balcony round the living-room (south and west facing). The outlook was over the tennis-courts and swimming-pool and the well-kept grounds and you could see the sea in the distance (even hear it at night). Turiquintas is in a quiet area: it's next door to two very high-quality hotels (Vila Lara and Vila Vita Parc).
It is a walk of over a mile into Armacao de Pera but there is a big Intermarche supermarket just a few hundred yards away which is also on a main bus route if you don't have your own transport. You can walk down to the beach - though it might be a bit far with little kiddies or for the elderly - and there are lovely walks along the cliff-tops for miles.
There was satellite TV but all the English channels seemed to be news, and the great majority were German/Austrian channels. I couldn't find the Portuguese channels (which show a lot of English/American programmes) but I did a lot of reading so it wasn't important.
I believe these apartments are about 30 years old so obviously if you are looking for faults you will find a few minor issues, but all-in-all I had a very good short break and felt the apartment was good value.
The best thing about my stay was…
Peace and quiet, breakfast on the balcony
