Review of 'CROWNE PLAZA UNITED NATIONS'
29 December 2005
I typically use this hotel for long business stays of up to 5 weeks. Situated on 42nd and 2nd makes this hotel ideal for the business traveller or the tourist as both the UN, 5th Avenue and Times Square are in easy reach.
The hotel itself is bigger than it looks with friendly staff and helpful travel guides. There is a small bar / restaurant in the lobby and a reception area which has free wi-fi internet access. Not so in the rooms. The overall feel when you walk in is warm and welcoming - not cold like some larger hotels.
The rooms themselves vary depending on whether it is a standard or executive. The executive rooms are the bigger of the two and contain a small seating area and desk. There is also a sofa bed in these rooms. The bathrooms are adequate and there are tea and coffee making facilities. So perfectly comfortable to stay in.
However, if you are after a hotel with a view this is not the best. Sandwiched in between taller buildings and overlooking a church you may find that if you are in the South tower below the 12th floor the rooms may be a little dark. So heres a useful tip: to ensure your room is lighter and you can see downtown and the East river ask for a room on the rear of the building above the 15th floor.
Overall, I have had no problems with this hotel and frequent it regularly.
