not what i was expecting

06 July 2008
After reading the reviews about this hotel i was terrified of going there as i like a bit of peace on holiday and i didnt want to get all my money stolen out of the safe as some people said they had. I must admit that i was surprised when i arrived there, the hotel staff were quite friendly and i didnt have a problem with the security guard, my hubby and i got a room with a sea view as we had requested when booking and the view was spectacular, the room itself was basic but it was quite clean, we had clean towels three times during our eight night stay but the bedding wasnt changed at all, its pointless trying to cook something as the facilities are rubbish as you only get a two ring cooker and a kettle, no toaster, no oven and a few bits of crockery and cutlery. I am pleased to say that i never had anything stolen during my stay and never had my safe broken into, so i dont think you should worry about theft, i even left loose change lying around and that wasnt taken either. The pool area was quiet up until about 2pm then the hen and stag parties take over, so be warned about that, as for during the night i never heard a sound and slept peacefully, the only real noise at the hotel is the seaguls flying around outside our room making awful noises from 5am onwards. The pool was clean and refreshing and quite big and there were plenty of sun loungers although they are very uncomfy, we were told no lilo's in the pool but by day three people were in the pool with them. All in all i enjoyed my stay there and would go again, its not as bad as people made it out to be and for the price it was a bargain.

Tired from Blackpool

13 June 2008
The apartments are great, cleaned five days from seven with new towels etc. Pool and recption areas lovely. The "hill" is not that bad even after a few drinks. The down side is the noise, from 2pm til aroung 6pm there is no chance of sleep, roudy clubbers, traffic and noisy barking dogs it was impossible to get a decent sleep.

me and my friends stayed here last summers, never again!! the hill sort of ruined the hoilday,we were completly knackered walking up, and walking down in high heel was murder, we stayed 5 days, and never got any clean towels or bedding, we did ask the maids but they said on the fourth day, they never brought any,the rooms were ok, we had a one bed apart, and studio, which were the same size, only with a wall in one bad apart, so we will not be staying there again.

WE SHOULD HAVE LISTENED

14 October 2007
Prior to travel we read several reviews and most of them mentioned "the hill" but unfortunately we chose to assume that we would be able to suffer this small problem by using taxis. Although the taxis were reasonable at 3euros from the rank at the strip, we found that once we had come back to the hotel we did'nt really want to go back out again because of the going out, having to find the rank and putting up with the taxi drivers complaints about it being such a short trip from Magaluf to the hotel. The rooms were very comfortable although the noise of guests passing our room during the night was annoying. When we complained at reception about this and about some of our close neighbours playing their music very loudly we were told that they could not force them to turn it down until 10p.m. so if you want an early night-tough luck. We found the hotel prices for food and drink expensive. The pool bar was only open occasionally, apparently only when the staff felt like opening it. The lifeguard had hard work at times telling a large selfish and noisy Norwegian family that lilos were not allowed in the pool and sun loungers were not allowed at the pool edge. Don't have the Sunday lunch at Ruby Tuesdays, it's rubbish. The Canny Kitchen has a good menu but the service is very poor. The standard of all the other bars and restaurants was, we found, very good and very reasonable, especially Roosters Chip shop. We really enjoyed the towns and promenades of both PalmaNova and Magaluf, but next time we are lookig for accommodation at the foot of the hill!

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel, it was just what we were looking for. We didnt want a rowdy hotel and although at 5am when we got back from clubbing there were a few bodies about, there was never any loud screaming or anthing. seemed everyone had a bit of respect for each other. I enjoyed the pool area- although NO LILOs what is all that about???? The views are second to none! We paid for a 'standard studio' and got a fab sea view and the room was a great size. Bed sheets are not changed enough- got tired of the sand in my bed!! also DON't leave ANYTHING lying around in your room that might look like rubbish- the maid threw my contraceptive pills away which kinda screwed me over!!! also now im back home i notice I'm missing a watch which i think she may have helped herself to!! The sunloungers around the pool are the most uncomfortable ever- buy a lilo from the shop and lie on that instead! also they break really easily, saw at least 3 ppl break them just by sitting on them, and they werent exactly hefty people. the lifeguard didnt appreciate it much either. good location- 5 min walk into magaluf, the hill is NOT that bad! i def noticed my thighs tone up though by the end of the 2 weeks. the worst bit was coming back from the beach- loadsssss of steps, and then the hill!! but it keeps ya fit hehe! would recommend the chilli lounge on the beach front for food- asbsolutly gorgeous! and go on the SLING SHOT!!! it took me 2 weeks to go on it but before we left for the airport i thought- just do it!! and it was ace! have fun! We were pleasantly surprised by the hotel. After reading other reviews we were lead to believe the hotel would be noisy, but found it not to be at all. We had an amazing view of the sea, which stayed nice and hot all through the day. The hill that everyone talked about was not as bad as we had prepared ourselves for. We felt for a three star hotel, it was well equipped, and for the price it was very reasonable.

We stayed in the TRH between 19th and 26th July 2007. We were a family of 4 adults and 2 children, both rooms were in a good location on level with the pool area. The sea views were stunning and the hotel was in a good location for both magaluf and palma nova apart from the hill you have to treck up from both sides (is a killer!!) but you can get a taxi for around 4 euro. Rooms are very basic and towels only got changed twice and the bed sheets never got changed!! The pool was a good size but the water was very salty, the lifeguard was very arrogant and does not like anyone having fun so do not buy any lilo's as they are not allowed. The hotel was sometimes very noisey in the early hours, but overall this hotel was not a bad place but would not return.

Nice but Noisy

23 July 2007
Stayed at this hotel from 16th July to 20th 2007. The apartment had a kitchenette with two cooking rings plus the usual cups, saucers etc. I would recommend taking your own travel kettle as the one provided is the old fashioned type that has to be heated up on the cooking ring. A fridge is also in the room, remember to set it to cold when you get there as the hotel always turn them down. The bathroom has a shower and bath. The living area has twin beds, sofa, dressing table, dining table and chairs. A TV is included in the price you pay here which has two English channels, BBC1 and Sky News. Also in with the price is a good air conditioning unit. Unfortunately this cant be left on while your out due to the key having to be inserted into a switch on the wall just behind the door as you go into the room. One previous reviewer had stated that you could remove this from the keyring. Not any more! They have soldered the key ring itself to stop you doing this. The view we had from our balcony was absolutely stunning. A completely uninterrupted sea view. Maid came in once a day made the beds and damped mopped the floor. All staff I found friendly and helpful. Just dont enter the restaurant from the pool side, big no! no! Now we come to the only real problem here........noise!! You can expect to be woken every day in the early hours between 2 and 6am. This consists of shouting, swearing, crying, banging of doors and on one occasion someone actually trying to kick their door in until stopped by security. I guess he lost his key. So please DO NOT TAKE CHILDREN to this hotel. I am sure they would be very scared by some of these idiots behaviour.

Just back from a week stay in this hotel with group of friends. It was nice enough for us but i wouldnt recommend it to people who like more upmarket hotels. The hotel is in a nice quiet place just off the magaluf strip but without the noise.! The poolbar was terrilbe my friend ordered a sandwich and it took 45mins for them to tell her she couldnt have it, didnt go back after that. There is a couple of nice cafe's along the magaluf beach front. sum of our friends came out a couple of days after us and the hotel had mucked up ther room saying they hadent booked one, after a while of arguing they got a room. there was three of us satying in our room but there was only 1 fork and 2 knifes when we asked for sum more they said they would have to be ordered.! I wouldnt go back and stay at this hotel again, i have now been to majorca 4 times and would go back in a second i would go back and stay in the honolulu hotel was much nicer for familys and great meals..!

We are just back from a week at the trh torrenova this was our 11th visit in 9 years & we love it.The staff are so friendly & always remember us we always get a lovley greeting from all staff from reception to maids.I love where the hotel is situated although i hate the hill you have to climb to get to it but due to my health failling i get a taxi up the hill it's only a couple of euros. The pool is lovley & kept clean there is a pool bar & for night they open the restaurant where it's buffet style eat as much or as little as you want. The hotel is ideal for going to magaluf you come out the hotel & turn left that takes you to magaluf turn right & it takes you to palma nova.It is also nice & quiet at night so you can enjoy a good night sleep. The only bad thing i would point out is the rooms could be a bit cleaner & towels & bed linen changed a bit more often although saying that if you need clean towels just ask at reception where they will be happy to give them to you.We love this hotel so much we are already booking up for next year.

This hotel is not good if you'r a group of young people wanting to have a laugh on ya hol (especially after 10:30pm). We were meant to be stayin in another hotel but unfortunatly had to be moved to this one, which is more family orientated. The worst thing is the security man, who didnt speak hardly n e english n jus resorted to violence to get his point across! Our apartment was absolutly filthy wen we got there with the floor covered in hairs n crumbs! The maid came into your room n e time from 8am n 'cleaned' (slightly swept with a dry mop) regardless of askin her not too! (esp with a hangova after only getting in a few hours b4!) The best ting about the hotel was the pool. It has a v nice view as it looks out onto the sea/beach n you get the sea breeze. The hotel is probs better as a family place, not a young persons hotel (which is what we originally booked!) The hill leading up to the hotel is a killer, esp if your in heels! (but u can wear off all the cheap booze after!) Overall, magaluf is a wicked place to go to!

Top Hotel - Recdommended

25 June 2007
We had a boss time in Magaluf, stayed at the TRH torrenova whilst we went for a 3 day break. (18-21 June 2007) Lots of things to do in the hotel, they provided entertainment, e.g. water polo in the day and a grease show in the evening. The location is good. There is a 'killer' hill tho when you are walking to or back from Magaluf strip - I would definitely recommend a taxi on the way back up! The hotel is situated on a cove which is really good when it gets to hit in the day as you have the sea breeze! There is only 1 bad thing at the hotel and that is the jobsworth lifeguard! He sits round all day amd just watches people. He tries to tell people how to look after their own children bear in mind he cant speak a word of english! We had to check out of our roon at 12 noon and wasn't getting picked up until 9pm, but the hotel had a luggae room and shower room for you to freshen up before coming home. But all in all it was a brill hotel and I would definitely recommend the TRH torrenova.

Just got back today from a one week holiday (staying Self Catering) we had a fantastic time. This place is in a great location right in the middle of Palma Nova and Magaluf. Fantastic sea view from the pool area and from most rooms (ours was facing the road though unfortunately but this made us get up and out of bed quicker and not waste the day in bed!) Room was the standard Spanish Apartment type room. They are all the same to us so there was no problem there. Usual fridge cooker and sink. Didnt try the hotel food so cant comment on that. Would definitely recommend accommodation to anyone. Magaluf is mad! even at this time of year, the place is buzzing, we would go again, even though we are getting on a bit! (33 and 35!)

Review of 'TRH TORRENOVA'

01 October 2006
We stayed at the TRH Torrenova the last 2 weeks in August, we were a little worried that they would be too noisy due to their location but they were in a very quiet residential area, a little too quiet late at night,I would not have felt safe walking on my own!We did hear some noise in the early hours on some mornings but as our apartment was on the end of a corridor and nobody had to walk past us,the noise was minimal. The dustbin men made the most noise at 8 o'clock every morning!!
The apartments were basic but spacious and were kept clean by the maid who came most days to empty bins, change towels and clean the bath and sinks, but I did have to ask for clean sheets for my bed, the other beds had clean sheets every few days but for some reason my bed was missed! but within an hour of my complaint the maid came and changed my sheets.
The pool area at these apartments is very nice, very clean and tidy and with stunning views! We didn't go down to the pool till 11 o'clock on most days and we easily got a sunbed!
Palma Nova and Magaluf are fantastic resorts there is something for everyone of all ages, we have been 6 times and would still go again! If you want a cheap and cheerful meal I would recomend Happy House on Magaluf beach, but if you want something special I would recomend Le Petit Bistro at the far end of Palma Nova, we went on our last night and it was fantastic! 21.50 Euro for the 3 course meal but it was top quality and well worth the money!I would receomend El Mosquito bar for a drink in a nice atmosphere and with stunning views of the bay!its near the Hawaii hotel and we go there every time we visit Palma Nova.I also recomend the cocktails at the Boat Yard on Magaluf beach 4.50 Euro for 2!! they were very nice but very strong!!

the hotel is nicley situated about five minuets walk from the beach and pubs in magaluf, and about ten minuets to palma nova, both directions are up a quiet steep hill, so not for the infirm, the hotel/apartments are basic but clean, and most look right over the sea, the pool and sun terrace are very nice, but drinks are expensive compared to the pubs down in the town.in magaluf and palma nova there are plenty of good places to eat and drink for all ages. i would definitly go back again, had a great time,   julie lynch

Arrived at the hotel rooms weren't quite ready but we expected this because of the time we arrived, only had to wait around half hour until we could unpack.

We had a one bed apartment and a studio, beds very uncomfy in apartment but the sofa beds in both rooms were comfy. Lovely sea views from both rooms ,you need to be on floor 5 or above other wise it would seem like you were underground but the rooms still had sea views. Entertainment not the best but ok. Prices in bar and pool bar expensive, use supermarket across road save a pretty penny.

Pool area nice and clean and lively good atmosphere, enetertainment team did games mot of the day.

The hill upto the hotel is very steep, walk further round and the slope is a little more gentle. The hotel is away from all the clubs and bars in a residential area so no noise at night from the thumping music of Magaluf.

Happy House on Magaluf beach front and Katies on Palma Nova beach front best restraunts. Manoes a good night out and Ruby Tuesday good for  family fun

We had a wonderful time at this hotel The apartments were very clean and spacious and the view from our balcony was fantastic. We stayed in Room 409 and our balcony overlooked  the sea, we were as close as you could be without actually being in the sea.
The balconies are very private as they are separated by brick and not glass.

Our room was a studio apartment but was easily big enough for 3 people as the settee pulled down into a double bed. There was a small kitchenette with a fridge/2 hobs but no oven or grill. We did hava a toaster. One tip though, do not try to use the hob/ kettle and toaster at the same time, as the electricity will trip. Have you ever tried to explain to the porter in basic Spanish that the trip switch has gone. In the end I had to resort to 'Electricity kaput with much hand waving'. I gave up in the end and found the switch myself.

the Tvs

As the hotel is built into the side of the cliff, it seems upside down with reception on the 6th floor and the apartments underneath. If you have an apartment which faces onto the road then try to avoid the lower floors as they seem to be in a dungeon and do not get much light

The staff in the hotel are very friendly and the cleaners come in to clean regularly. It was very hot when we stayed and I did have to ask for the sheets to be changed earlier than normal but they were fine about it. The bathrooms are very large and there was plenty of hot water whatever time we decided to shower
The pool area is very nice and there were plenty of sun beds available. They had regular evening  entertainment but as we do not have children we did not watch it but they all seemed to be enjoying themselves.

There were quite a few young people staying in the hotel but they were no problem to us as they all seemed to be staying on either the lower floors or the 6th floor.

There is a supermarket right opposite reception so you don't have to walk far.

These apartments are in the Torrenova area which is lovely to stay in as it is quiet but the entertainment of Palma Nova is only a 5 minute stroll down cardiac hill. The walk up the hill is a bit of a chore as it is very steep but if you do not feel up to it a taxi only costs a few euros.
There are plenty of places to eat and drink down in Palma Nova and it is only a 15 minute stroll into Magaluf with bars and restaurants all the way in.

We returned from our holiday on the 9th of August 2006. The rooms were very spacious with a lovely view. The maids changed the towels and linen regular. Our only complaint was the room could have been a bit cleaner there were cobwebs in the light shades and the chair legs. The reception staff were helpful and spoke good English.Really nice pool side area gorgeous view looking out over the bay. Plenty of sun beds some with shade if it is too hot.  When you want to spend time on the beach turn left for Magaluf (  Try the Happy house restraunt on the sea front very nice breakfast for 3.95 euros including drinks and the best evening meals we found )and right for Palma nova quite a few nice sea front cafe bars.

Just returned from the TRH Torrenova.  Location of the apartments was excellent with fab. sea views, pleanty of room around the big pool and rooms were reasonably clean. However, as I was there with my family (many other familes were staying there too) we did not sleep much as youths were arriving back anytime between 3am - 7am loud; singing, shouting and bad language.  On day there were about 8 male youths drinking from glass bottles around the pool and the staff did not attempt to stop them. I would not recomend these apartments for middleaged couples or families in July/August and definately not for people with walking difficulties as there is a very step hill to climb.

This hotel is right near the top of the strip...very close to night life, but far enough from the noise at night. Gorgeous sea view, right on cliff...only negative is the steep hill to and from the bars (not recommended for people with walking difficulties). Clean, decent sized room, tv with bbc3 sky news and sky euro sports. Nice staff, only problem was we had to ask for clean towels a few times before they got changed. All in all value for money, had a great holiday!!!!

19 June 2006
This is our seventh time in majorca and yet again we had a brilliant time. The hotel was very clean and the rooms were very spacious and the view was spectacular overlooking the bay from our apartment
The staff were very helpful and spoke very good english which is always a help. The rooms were kept very clean and even when you left a do not disturb sign out they came back when you were ready.
There were always plenty of sunbeds around 11.00 when we went out to the terrace so there was no need to panic and get up at 6.00. The terrace was kept very clean and entertainment was ongoing throughout the day if you wanted to join in.
As the hotel was right at the top of a hill it might cause problems if you have trouble walking but after you had done it  a couple of times you got used to it and the exercise was very good after a heavy night out.Another bonus for being up the top of the hill it was very quiet at night away from the centre of the nightlife.
Ideally a brilliant holiday again just 5 minutes away from the hustle and bustle of the nightlife but just up that hill and there was peace and quiet, I would say that was perfect.
Will definately be going back in August for yet another brilliant time.

on arrival, the staff were curtious and helpful. The room was excellent with a spectacular sea view, which we didn't expect, and clean and spacious with air conditioning which was a godsend, the rooms were cleaned nearly every day and i must say that the picture on alphrooms does not do the hotel justice.

We spent 2 weeks at the hotel and would definitely book another stay there.

The entertainment team were very good, creative and made the best of the limited facilities and resource available.
Activities (including football against the sister hotel).Evening shows were well staged, well attended and enjoyable, the entertainment team in conjunction with the acts, ensured a good time was had by all.The pool area and surrounding bar on the 5th floor overlook the sea and there were plenty of tables, chairs and sunbeds to go round.

The hotel is situated on a hill between Magaluf and Palmanova which is about a 5 min walk in each direction, you really do need your walking legs as the hill is a killer.

We had an excellent time there, the food and drink was great, what more can i say!!

We booked our short say just the day before departure.  We found the hotel excellent the staff gave us a warm welcome and were very helpful and friendly, even though the hotel was due to close, for the winter season, the day after our departure.
We had read the reviews before we went and were expecting spectacular views but what we got was even better.  The view from the pool, and our room was wonderful.  We had the added bonus of excellent weather, way up in the late 20's which was a bonus for the end of October.  Our daughter lives in Palmanova so we often pop over for long weekends etc - will definitely try to re-book!  By the way, we enjoyed the walk into Palmanova, back was slightly harder as uphill but did wonders for burning those extra calories!

Having read various "reviews" regarding theft from this hotel we were dubious as what at expect.
On arrival, the staff were curtious and helpful. The room was very nice with a spectacular sea view.
We stayed in the first week of october, just as the hotel was going into "off peak" season but still found that they ran a full programme of events, especially for the kids. Although we were self catering we found ourselves eating at the hotel as the food on offer was both varied and reasonably priced.
The room was cleaned regularly and security was'nt a problem with a secure safety deposit box available.
The hotel is situated in a quiet area at the top of a very steep hill, not for the elderly, so a taxi is highly recommended after a night out.
Overall a hotel worth recommending, esecially for families, we would certainly go back.

Excellent Hotel

21 September 2005
When I booked the hotel I never realised how great the view was from the pool area. It was just clear blue sea and skies and it was really nice. The room was in excellent condition with a large bathroom and air conditioning for when things get too hot. The staff were all very friendly and the location of the hotel was good as it was a 10 minute walk to palma nova or a 10 minute walk to magaluf. This allowed us to relax in palma and have fun in magaluf. I would advise people of all ages to visit the hotel unless people struggle to walk up hills as th hotel is situated on top of one. I would definitely give the hotel 5 out of 5!

Barcelo Torrenova

In short Value for Money Accommodation.

On arrival and through the holiday the reception staff were professional and helpful, our room was not ready, but a secure baggage room was available, this had (as later discovered to the surprise of my partner), a security surveillance camera, particularly as she thought it would be a good opportunity for her to change into her swimming costume (so beware).

The need to walk down a very steep and long hill to get into the Palma Nova and Magaluf centres not to mention the journey back up, is compensated by the quieter location of the hotel compared to the sister hotel the Barcelo Palmanova on THE HILL and other hotels in the main resorts.

Being quieter and less populated gave us a better chance to use the hour glass shaped pool, shallow enough for toddlers one end and deep enough for adult swimmers at the other end, with the Water Polo going on in the middle.

The pool area and surrounding bar on the 5th floor overlook the sea and there were plenty of tables and chairs and sun beds to go round. (though it’s not just the Germans who put towels on beds and disappear, Brits are now doing it too! so don't get up too late).

The apartments were of a good size and clean. the sofa was used as bed for our child, most rooms appear to have a sea view, we didn’t book a room with a view, but we got one. Though air conditioning was working and relatively effective, the sea breeze was more refreshing particularly at night.

The entertainment team were very good, creative and made the best of the limited facilities and resource available.
Activities (including football against the sister hotel).

Evening shows were well staged, well attended and enjoyable, the entertainment team in conjunction with the acts, ensured a good time was had by all.

The evening bar had a good range of drinks, cocktails were good value at 4 Euros whatever one you chose to have.

We went self catering, but the restaurant food looked okay, there is a buffet, come barbeque, every Friday evening and that looked reasonable value.

At the price we paid through Alpharooms, I would certainly consider returning to the Barcelo Torrenova.

Review of 'BARCELO TORRENOVA'

04 July 2005
Just returned from staying at the Barcelo - Initial thoughts were that it was a bit secluded and away from everything. However, after settling down and going to find our mates who live out there, we found that it wasnt far at all! the hotel is very clean and staff very friendly. The views from the apartment that I stayed in were fantastic - I would definitely say the air con in the room was a big plus. All in all this is a friendly nice hotel and would thoroughly reccommend it!

The picture in this website does not give the place justice, it shows the lovely pool area but does not show the fact that you overlook the ocean.
Within 5 mins walk of Magaluf main clubs and bars this was the perfect location for me and my friends .. we wish we had been able to stay longer and will definitely be staying at Barcelo Torrenova again in the future
