a hidden little gem

10 February 2010
my wife and i were celebrating our 25th anniversary and we found a little gem of a hotel where we were from 05/02/10 to 09/02/10. the room was fine and bathroom had a strong power shower , all was cleaned every day with fresh linen and clean towels. we were in room 205 on second floor and the views were to die for , the mountains , the coast , the whole works. some of the previous reviews made me a little hesitant , i reckon they are reviews about the wrong hotel. we stayed b/breakfast and a full array of hot food was on display every morning with a fantastic choice. a bus stop is right outside the hotel and a 15 bus ride will take you right to the sea front in nearby feungourila , they ran every 30 mins and were always on time , and you picked the bus back up again were you were dropped off , all this for only1.20 euro. the village is small and quaint but superb oppertunitys for taking photos. in the village square ( and only 200 yds from the hotel, turn left) there were shops and quite a few restaurants. the best resturant we found was called '' mijas paraiso'',an english run establishment run by mark and tracy. all the food was home cooked , and a special thank you to the chef and to little sam who catered for all your needs whilst you were dining , this place could be recomended to all and the prices were very good, thanks mark for the large sambukas !!!!. there was a supermarket 75yds left out of the hotel as well. will jill and myself be back , you bet we will..one last thing about the hotel and that was the walls are very thin , we had 2 spanish women next to us and you could hear all they were saying , even to running a bath at 11pm you could hear the woman singing as well..superb hotel, superb location , superb food as where mention , and of course the weather was superb as well and nice and hot !!!!!! russell and jill towers-surrey..

All great including food, staff, cleanliness, comfort and secure parking. Best bargain I've ever had at £16 per head for half board.

Lovely Hotel

Room very clean and warm. Bed large and comfortable. The view from the lounge is fantastic. Food acceptable for buffet style with plenty of choice. A bargain winter break.

lovely hotel

21 December 2009
we stayed there for 2 nights.lovely hotel close to the centre of the village.our 7yo love the hotel very much.breakfast was adequate.room was kept clean during our stay.but the walls are quite thin, could hear conversation from next room.reception staff was helpful, though was not fluent in english, sufficient to provide useful information.a bus stop in front of the hotel could take you direct to malaga/benalmadena/fuengirola.

No Complaints

11 November 2009
We arrived back from the Hotel Mijas yesterday. We had a lovely chill out break of 7 days. On arrival we asked for a balcony which caught the afternoon sun and this was arranged right away. The location is stunning and the hotel has plenty of outdoor terraces as well as the pool area to lounge in. The evenings are so peaceful... no Musak! and the seating areas range from comfy armchairs to a lovely terrace with wicker furniture, and a fantastic view, to a bar area with brass seats! Breakfast and evening meal are served buffet style and offered a good selection. The staff were unobtrusive and very helpful. We could not fault the hotel and would love to go back.

Lovely hotel in good location

16 October 2009
My Husband & I stayed in this hotel for 1 week. My Husband's Brother got Married in a lovely Church in Mijas. Family & Friends stayed in this hotel also. The hotel is ideally suitated, within walking distance to restaurants, pubs & shops. There are plenty of hills in Mijas. The pool area was lovely & clean. We found this a lovely meeting spot for Family members & Friends staying in the hotel. The bedroom was clean & bright. We had a lovely balcony with a good view. The room was cleaned & bed made up daily. There was no double bed, just 2 singles pushed together. The cleaning lady was very friendly & helpful. The buffet breakfast was lovely. There was an excellent selection to choose from. You could eat in the Restaurant or go to the balcony. There was a bar at the pool area & also inside the hotel where you could bring your drink to a lovely balcony area with a nice view. You could order paninis etc at the pool bar. There was an Elsafe in one wardrobe. €2.50 per day, you pay at Reception for it's use. We got an excellent rate for this hotel through Alpharooms & I would recommend this Hotel if you are thinking of staying in Mijas.

Give the staff a break!

06 October 2009
5th trip to this hotel in Mijas. Find it a good example of a Spanish hotel and the food and staff are above average. The pool area is exceptional and always clean and tidy. Many reviews have complained about the staff but I believe if you are pleasant and courteous to them they will be the same to you. Some guests have an attitude that warrants poor service. I have no complaints and will be going back asap.

Great place to stay

08 August 2009
Hotel has character, spectacular views, and a nice pool area. Rooms are a little dated but add to the character. Hotel and rooms are kept spotlessly clean and buffet breakfast was more than adequate. The hotel is a bit of an oasis of calm, away from the crowds on the beaches of Fuengirola and Benalmadena. Considering the price we paid, this was a bargain break and would recommend this hotel to couples and families who are wanting a relaxing, quiet holiday, who are not looking for the usual Costa Del Sol holiday. My 11 year old son was content to spend most of the day in the pool, and there was none of the usual scramble for sun loungers. We visited in August and never had a problem finding a sun bed. A car is useful, but not necessary, as the frequent buses to & from Mijas, connecting with the train at Fuengirola, are very cheap and reliable. We did not have the half board option as it was nice to walk into Mijas in the evening to eat at the various restaurants. Overall, this was a very good place to stay and we wished we had stayed longer.

Do not beleive all you read!

21 July 2009
The hotel is small, quaint and quiet. Set in a lovely location up in the hills overlooking sea views. Downside: No Gym even though one advertised - this is illegal marketing! They're complete money grabbers: They expact daily payments for use of the hotel carpark even though a resident. You cannot switch the HB from evening meal to lunchtime, as you can in all other hotels I have stayed in. On the last day they increased the price of each meal by 33% and halved the portions! They expect you to pay for the poolside towels. I am a frequent traveller and found all the above shocking. We would definitely visit Mijas again but would not stay in this hotel, whihc is a shame as the hotel could offer a lot more for their customers without having to do very much!

NICE VIEWS

15 June 2009
The excellent views are unfortunately where the positive atributes of this hotel end. Surley staff an extreemly poor breakfast and a complete lack of cleaning staff for the room during our two night stay, mared what could of been an exceptional weekend. If it were not for the excellent rate that Alpharooms offers and the fact that it is the only hotel in the center of Mijas I would never consider staying here again. However it is the only Hotel and the Mijas International/Blues weekend is fantastic so its a matter of putting up with it, and the hotel know it.

VERY ENJOYABLE STAY

21 May 2009
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would certainly return to Mijas and to this lovely hotel. The hotel has the ambience of an old Colonial Inn. Its furnishings in the halls and common areas stand splendid and evocative of opulent comfort. The staff are most pleasant and the general atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. The terrace and lounge overlooking the hilltop and down to the sea provides a luxurious and sedate retreat at the end of the day. The swimming pool area is quiet and inviting and I especially like the arrangement for towels which minimises waste and cares for the environment.

Our 4-night stay

16 May 2009
This hotel is in a beautiful setting, up in Mijas Pueblo with wonderful panoramic views. We requested a Superior Double but were disappointed by the very thin towels, which on some days were even raggy. There were twin beds instead of the double we'd expected and only one pillow on each bed with no spares in the room. There were six coathangers to share between two wardrobes. Overall I would have expected better for a Superior room. There was an Elsafe in one wardrobe but you'd to pay at Reception for it's use. There was good, secure parking but again, it was to be paid for at 9 euros each day. On the positive side - our room was kept very clean each day with complete changes of bedding and towels. There were some very good facilities available and the several Lounges were well furnished and comfortable. There was an Internet Cafe area and also a nearby lounge with WiFi access. There was only one child at the hotel whilst we were there, most visitors seemed mature couples like us.

Fabulous Hotel

17 February 2009
Stayed for two nights over Valentines Weekend as a special treat. The hotel reception was immaculate, the staff were more than helpful and friendly. We checked into our lovely room with views down the mountain to the sea, it was very clean and smelt fresh, toiletries were provided. The food in the restaurant was presented beautifully, there was plenty of choice for all tastes. The staff in the dining room were pleasant and efficient. We could not fault this hotel at all, the setting and position were second to none. We hired a car at the airport, not too sure regarding the parking, but we were so pleased to find that they had a secure parking lot under the hotel with lift access direct to rooms and reception. We shall certainly be returning again. Thank you for a special weekend.

A disappointing end

18 November 2008
Mijas was to be the jewel in the crown of a holiday lasting 3 weeks and taking us to four different destinations and hotels in Spain (3) and Portugal (1). Having already stayed at three 4* hotels in the previous weeks, TRH Mijas was a great disappointment! Whilst the location (great views) and style (old Spanish) of the hotel could not be faulted, I am afraid that the attitude of the staff and the quality of the food left much to be desired. The staff were very off-hand and there was very much a take-it or leave-it attitude. The food was so poor and unappetising that we eventually took breakfast in a local cafe and evening meals in one of the numerous, excellent restaurants locally. The feeback from them was that they often had TRH Mijas guests eating with them for the very same reason. We loved Mijas and will be returning - but not to TRH Mijas.

Mijas Hotel

22 October 2008
Me and my boyfriend got a great deal on this hotel at £181 for 5 nights. Although the hotel was okay, I would not have paid more. The staff (majority of them) were friendly and accommodating; the room we had was a good size but a bit dated - although I have to say we got the balcony and sea view we asked for! (tip - ask for a balcony you can sit on, they're much bigger). The bathroom was a bit stuffy but everything worked. We went for 'room only' so were very disappointed to find no kettle or small fridge in the room, which you'd expect for a 4* hotel; you can get tea from downstairs bar but you pay more than you would in the town. The maids cleaned our room every day to a good standard. The pool area was lovely with great views, there were some beds which were old and needed replacing but this was not a major issue and we didnt have any complaints. The bar by the pool only opened on one day of our stay and that was very expensive (nip to the local shop and get your own I'd suggest!!). Mijas is a lovely town and the hotel is in a great location but there's not much to do if its raining. Would recommend the hotel to stay in but would expect a good deal and take your own kettle!

Overall the hotel was excellent. The room was a good size and well equipped with a nice balcony, however it would have been good to have had a fridge in the room. Breakfast was of an excellent standard with a very wide choice, including lots of fresh fruit. The pool area was very pleasant and the pool itself was excellent, however they need new sunbeds as most of them were old and appeared dirty and some of them were broken. Overall the hotel was extremely clean, both in the bedroom and the public areas. The staff were mixed, some very friendly, some not so. The hotel is perfectly located, with great views and easy to wander into the town and we would definitely stay there again.

Excellent value

17 July 2007
Having read many negative reviews on other websites, I went to stay at this hotel with mixed feelings. However, the accommodation was clean and relatively roomy with a small balcony, the pool area was very clean and well cared for. Breakfast was superb, with a varied buffet from English breakfast to many different types of fruit. Well worth the money and would defintely return.

Review of 'MIJAS'

13 October 2006
Arrived by hire car 28sept06 the drive after leaving the motorway to the hotel was full of narrow hairpin bends, shear drops and lots of potholes some so deep I thought that if I had gone into them the car would be damaged. There was nowhere to park the car on the road by the hotel so I used the hotel underground carpark.Charge 9 euros per day. There was a lift that took us from there to the hotel reception.
The staff at the hotel all spoke english and were friendly and
efficient. Our room and ensuite bathroom was clean and the twin beds were large and comfortable. We had a small balcony with a table and 2 chairs where one could look down and see the town of Fuengerola and the sea in the distance. It looked very pretty
at night when lit up.In the hotel gardens was a large swimming pool and a tennis court.
The meals in the hotel were not good value.Breakfast was ok if you like continental but be careful with the sliced bread.

Review of 'MIJAS'

17 February 2006
The Mijas is a nice four star hotel worthy of its grade.  It has a number of public rooms and our bedroom was pleasently situated on the first floor overlooking the pool.  The bathroom was well appointed and the room furniture was satisfactory.  Meals were also of a satisfactory standard and ocassionally there were some very good dishes.  Some of the staff had a tendency to be offhand and others were very pleasant.  The location of the hotel is excellent.  It is in a pretty village with some delightful scenery away from the coast.  We would use the hotel again as it is very good value for money.

Review of Hotel Mijas in 'MIJAS'

24 January 2006
We have just returned from a fabulous 3 day short break to Mijas. Great value for money.  The hotel was excellent. It has recently been refurbished. Every where was spotlessly clean, and well presented.  All public areas and bedrooms are non smoking except for the bar terrace, and outside of course.
Hotel staff were extremely helpful, polite, professional and spoke excellent English.
We only ate breakfast in the hotel, but the vast selection of hot and cold food was excellent, hot food hot etc. and well presented.
The hotel is also perfectly located near the village of Mijas, public transport is readily available if you do not want to hire a car.
We will certainly return.  We also booked our transfers from the airport to the hotel and return via a link with Alpha Rooms.  This we can also recommend.
