Enjoyable

09 June 2008
Stayed at Royal Sun from 08/05/2008 for a week. Our room was next to a railway line, generator and a busy road. Although they were very obliging when we asked to be moved it took them nearly 4 days. On our departure we had to be up at 5am (Spanish time). My husband went to see if the coffee machine was working and the guy at reception followed him to more or less tell him NO. He was so grumpy. Although the food and staff were exceptional and the hotel nice and clean we wouldn't be in a hurry to go back.

just had 10 days at the Royal Sun, anybody who complains about this hotel is very hard to please. It is spotlessly clean with staff around all the time, food is plentiful and varied, bar service was excellent although i can imagine it will be annoying and hectic in high season. It rained for 7 of our 10 days but thanks to the great hotel it did not spoil our holiday. In the words of some ice cream company "try it and see"

Good location, nice rooms, friendly staff, overall good value, we stayed five nights, any longer and the food may have become rather boring.

Excellent hotel. Although the entertainment was not to our taste, it was exactly as we had expected! All the staff were excellent, polite and cheerful - particularly the reception staff. All our requests (of which there were a few!) were dealt with promptly and efficiently. the hotel was comfortable, clean and well-maintained. There are a lot of steps - so I would not recommend it to anyone with walking difficulties. Good value for money - we went all-inclusive and certainly got our money's worth!

Very enjoyable

31 March 2008
Forget 4 stars but being brits we'll tell everybody we stayed in a 4 star anyway!! The hotel was spotless, the staff were very friendly and the rooms although a tight squeeze were very adequate. The entertainment was average, but they tried very hard, and we had 3 children under 5 in our party and they tried very hard to include them. No problems getting served and the staf were flexible with the number of drinks they served you (all inclusive). I felt that some guests had read too many reviews and were looking for issues they had read about so they could do the next best brit thing and moan about it. Therefore my tip is, don't bother reading these reviews make your own mind up!!!

food a major problem

21 October 2007
hotel was good in every way untill it came to the food, it was DISGUSTING AND COLD. The younger members of the barstaff were good and friendly but the older members of the barstaff were very ignorant and arrogant, if you are staying AI you will notice that they will ignore you if there is a chance of atip elsewhere

To return is a must.

20 September 2007
Like I said to return is a must, the hotel has a fantastic location, having the beach as a back yard. We travled with our 2 year old who had a fantastic time. All staff at the Hotel were great and even the ones who didnt speak or make any eye contact to say Ola proberly dont speak english. I found If I smiled they smiled back. We arrived via Transfer and a word of warning the coach we were on made quite a few stops in Lorett de mar. We were on the bus for almost 2 hours when the trip direct takes 40mins its worth getting a taxi if this is unsutable for you. Again another draw back is that the coach drop you off on the opporsite side of the road, and you are left to fend for yourself to cross the road and train track yourself. Again a taxi would suit some. We used the underpass and it took moments to enter reception. I must add that the train line is not like an intercity line, more like a tram line. And the road really aint that busy. I saw busy in Lorette de mar! The Hotel its self is nice but it aint a 4 star. I think back in the day when the Hotel was built they had 4 star in mind, what tops it is the location. the rooms are a fair size (you dont spend much time in there anyway) The bed was a little uncomfy for my husband I slept like a baby. So mush to do in the local area that we ran out of time. a great base for Barca. As train staion is meters away. The Ship Pub is next door Hello guys. The comments made about the food being left out all dinner time was not correct when we were there the staff was constantly topping up the hot plate with fresh food. It did become a little boring but on the other hand fresh fruit and veg a plenty.

GOOD

22 June 2007
Hotel was very good for price we paid. Breakfast - good range of hot and cold - eat as much as you want - repetitive every day though. Location good - only problem was noise at night from street-louts going home at all-hours singing - a room to rear should avert this. We booked an airport transfer from Girona approx. €15 each on Net - way cheaper than a taxi, especially if u arrive late in evening. Trip to Barecelona approx. one hour by train at arround €5 worthwhile. We were beside elevators and on ground floor. I reckon each web company gets different rooms, depending on what is charged - ours was €25 each per night which included evening meal so we were not in a position to complain. I never got to eat the evening meal as we were always out! Lots of people on All Inclusive - word of warning for parents - there did not seem to be any age restriction on who got served. Overall a good hotel.

TOP ROYAL SUN

22 April 2007
This hotel was probably one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed at. The staff were very helpful and good with the children which is a big bonus. We have tried to book again for this year but are struggling to get in so we are going to try the Aqua Marina. Excellent value for money and the all inclusive is well worth a try.

The Royal Sun was a wonderful hotel.  We stayed all inclusive and was amazed by how well treated we were. The staff were very friendly and were lovely with our young children, who were very trying especially at meal times.  we have stayed three times in santa susanna and will be back again before the end of the year.  The resort is lovely and we love the whole relaxation of the place not to mention the excellent value for money. We would love to go back to the Royal Sun, but we cant get in, it is fully booked for school hols, but we will definitely be back next year.  The Aqua Marina is also a wonderfuly hotel.

hotel was very clean, some of the staff was friendly and helpful , others was just the oposite, food not so good , lots of complaints from people about it , more like a 3 star hotel, no hairdryers in the rooms , we had to get one from reception 10 euros dep, hotel was freezing but weather was very cold at the time , we spent most of the day in the bedroom as that was the only warm place, hotel in good spot as right on the beach, some nice walks along the beach if you get the weather, we had a bedroom on the front so was very noisy at night with drunks passing and also the railway, make sure you ask for a sea view , hope this is helpful.

all inclusive louts

19 March 2007
the hotel was in a wonderful position right on beach, staff very friendly, hotel spotless, food good in spanish style which we like, however the whole thing was spoilt by the 'all inclusive' offer in the hotel,   The british nature is not suited to this and the order of the day by people from mainly southampton, and scotland was to get as much down your neck as you can,and to hell with anyone who would have liked to use the lounge in the evening for dancing and listening to the group and having a civilised drink.  The drunks were crashing into people, the language was apalling, fights broke out two evenings and one scotsman spent the rest of his holiday nursing a really bad black eye.  Two of the yobs fell in the pool at midnight but unfortunately got out, so they could carry on ruining everyones holiday.  The manager received so many complaints that he had to spend the last two nights we were there at the bar turning the freeloaders away as they could hardly stand up.  He was greatly at fault as they should have been chucked out of the hotel especially the louts from southampton.  We were facing the pools which also led to the bar and the screaming went on until 3.0am.
Luckily we had hired a car and explored the area in the day and never went back for lunch on two days as they were just as bad in the dining room, unfortunately they all made us sad to be British.  We told the manager we would love to come back but only if they stop the all inclusive fiasco.

The hotel staff are friendly (apart from one surley barman) and the rooms and hotel are basic but very clean. This is not a four star hotel, more like three. The other comments about the food are fair, it is OK but not up to 4 star standards by any means (nearer 2*). The best thing about the Fully Inclusive "passport" is the ability to eat and drink at any of the other TOP hotels. If you rent a car, have a trip to some other locations. Its worth it. Train into Barcelona is good 6 euro 20 cents. We went in March and obviously the resort is dead. If you are in the area visit Montseratt, a nice trip. Take the fenicular railway, it is one of the best in europe.

Stayed for 4 nights in March 07,read other reveiws  some good some not. We found the hotel very good, rooms comfortable with side location. We were all inclusive at a cheap price. 3 good meals, snacks also 3 tmes a day. Drinks were local but were good, and staff were friendly and helpful.10 minute walk from Santa Susanna station, less than 7 euros from Barcelona airport, change at Santes.A little quiet in local area, but fine in Malgrat. Lack of parking a hastle, but with train so easy and cheap why bother. We are 55years young and would certainly stay at this hotel again. If you want to stay there most of the day, all you need is there. If you want to roam a bit, there are lots of choice resorts to visit. Cost us less than £38per night for the two of us.

Review of 'TOP ROYAL SUN'

29 June 2006
I just came back from the Royal Sun in Costa Brava yesterday and had a fantastic time. I went with my boyfriend and although its clearly a family / older people resort we had a blast.
The food is fab and plenty of it all day. All inclusive drink choice is amazing - you only pay for named imported drinks but the measures are so huge of the local stuff your better off drinking that anyway. The only thing you have to pay for ( if your all inc ) is the game machines and crisps, only 1euro per bag and they are lovely. There is a tv room and internet also. The pool is great and there's also a 'kids pool' on the upper layer which is all shallow which is great for your boyf who cant swim!!! The sun id better up there too.
The shops are good, I paid 60euros for a louis viutton and gucci bag which seems alot for fakes abroad but they look so real you would never tell ( there is only the 1 shop with such good fakes tho and its on the middle of the boulevard ) there are shops and stalls everywhere that sells belts, wallets, hats, sunglasses, clothes etc and they are cheap as chips.
There are some really good bars too, the Tropicana bar is the best. You pay 10euros to get in but you get 2 drinks vouchers and a card to use for the duration of your holiday which also gives you 2 free drinks when you fgo in ( so if you wanted you could just go in for your 2 drinks!! )
There is a bar called waikiki that have litre cocktails, or whatever for 5euros which is awesome.
The beach is right in front of the hotel.
The only downside was that the hotel is so tall the sun goes behind it so you have to move about a bit and there were lots of older people there ( 60+ ) but they were never about in the day and were in the main room in the night so we just went outside to get away for a bit.
Enjoy your holl we certainly did

Review of 'ROYAL SUN'

This is not a 4* hotel and never will be until complete refurbishment is carried out.Booked and paid for 12 nights all inclusive however we left after 5 days. There was adequate choice of food and plenty of it - however in most instances it was not edible or fresh. We were surprised to see the evening meals not eaten served up at breakfast. In fact we chose to eat out at Burger King and utilise other bars for snacks - whilst this was at extra cost to ourselves we believed it neceassry as a number of people had complained of the quality and standard of food on offer.
The majority of staff where friendly and helpful but conveniently spoke in Spanish if you raised a problem / query.
The rooms are in need of redecorating and the bed linen was threadbare. Towells were changed everyday but are so old and rough it was almost impossible to dry yourself.
TV picture quality very poor - Safe deposit box cost us an extra 44 euros for 5 days. (10 euros refunded when we left)
The main line railway was outside our balcony along with the main thoroughfare between campsites and discoteques. The noise in the early hours from revellers was very disturbing - however the entertainment value from the police and partygoers made the evening. (sorry early hours 3 - 5 am) The hotel entertainmemt was not our choice but I am sure that some people would enjoy this.
I could not recommend this hotel or resort to anyone - however I am sure that some people found this quite acceptable.

Railway line

03 July 2005
I stayed in this hotel for only 3 nights and that was enough. Outside my room window was the main Barcelona route railway line and the main road through Santa Susanna, you have to go through an under pass to gain access to the hotel. No mention of this is made in any brochure or website i have found, they only mention that its on the beach with lovely sea views, none of these rooms were available. The food in the restaurant is barely edible and if you don't like pork don't visit this hotel. the hotel staff are friendly and helpful but that is not enough of a plus to recommend this hotel.

we had a great week at royal sun. got plane to barcelona and train to santa susanna. hotel lovely. food plenty of choice. the entertainment wasn't good but we went to the other bars nearby for a hour or two then back to hotel. there is no hair-dryers in room, no sauna no gym like we were expecting. To phone home hotel phone in lobby was good value.Overall a good holiday and you can use if you are all inclusive 6 other hotels between lloret and calella.
