great hotel friendly staff
18 August 2008
I am just back from the olympic hotel(7 August 08)The Olympic hotel is a fine, basic three star hotel - well run with rooms cleaned daily. All the staff were very friendly and helpful . Lots of areas to sit in the shade and relax
The food was fine for my party and one could choose a different meal daily if you wanted. I am a vegetarian and there was plenty of choice. Young members of the party did tend to eat less of the food on offer but what menu would suit young people(teenagers)?
When I read the reviews I thought it was going to be really bad and noisy - this was not the case - yes there was the occasional bit of loud chat but this is a holiday hotel and that is to be expected.
There was a great mix of guests - families, young couples, all nationalities.
The H Top hotel chain offers facilities in the 'all inclusive category'which I consider excellent.
e.g. a packed lunch if you go out and miss the hotel lunch:
e.g. drinks on the card at the beach and of course in the hotel all day.
e.g. snacks in between meals if you missed a meal or get hungry in between meals(unlikely)
e.g. use of facilities in other hotels in the chain and a free(I think) bus to take you between the hotels.
All in all The Olympic is excellent value for the money paid.
Two small points -
1 That burgundy paint scheme could be changed to a brighter colour.
2 Why put the room number and hotel address on the room keys - is this not an invitation to the thieving classes.

so so hotel
13 May 2008
My partner and I booked our stay here at short notice. After booking we checked out reviews from past guests and after reading them we were dreading going there.
We spent four nights there in early may 2008. On arrival we were pleasantly surprised that the hotel reception was much better than we expected. The rooms were basic but comfortable and clean. There was fresh towels every day.
The food was ok but a bit boring. Very little entertainment in evenings and what there was, was not that good. Huge bar but seriously under staffed with very grumpy rude barmen who couldn,t smile at you if their life depended on it.
Reception staff were friendly though. The pool areas looked clean but smelled of drains but there were plenty of sun loungers. Lots of young germans staying there and I would imagine that in peak season it would be very noisy. A plus is the medieval night which is free, you just pay for the bus. Great night .
All in all we would not go back there again. Ok for short break off season but wouldn't like the usual 2 week stay.

what a horrible palce
10 May 2008
I have just come back from here, stayed a/i so my young son (10yrs) could advantage of the so called entertainment, what a joke majority of daytime entertainment was for adults or older teenagers, night time entertainment was just a disco!!
The food was terrible they wouldn't serve it to pigs in the uk, after 2 nights we decided to eat out and did so every day for all our meals, there was just nothing for my son to eat.
The room was adequate, not the most modern but it was ok for son and me, but other guests told me it was cramped if there 3 or 4 of you. You can hear everything that is happening in the next room, and I mean everything!! As for sleep forget it, we had a group of people next door who swore all the time, played loud music until 3 in the morning and every night came back to there room looking for trouble with anyone who was around. Waste of time compalining to reception, all I got was that it is what they expect from the english, and to be honest the class of people who were there I can see why, this place is just a cheap nasty hotel full of morons who just get drunk and cause trouble, stay away if you want to have a nice holiday. I will never stay there again, infact the locals tell you not to stay there.

Not as bad as expected!
09 May 2008
After only paying £19 a night and reading the reviews we were a bit worried to what it would be like. We checked in quite late and found the reception staff quite friendly. The rooms were functional but the walls were thin. However, we had no noisy neighbours so this wasn't a problem. The main problem was the lack of "do no disturb" signs to put on the doors, as the cleaners liked to call about 9am and wake up you up! Overall not too bad for the tiny amount of money paid.

Expecting terrible, complete opposite!
23 April 2008
This hotel was great value for money. It had nice surroundings, shops, beach great. We expected it to be so terrible but it wasn't! In a room for four its a bit crowded but thats part of the fun. The one and only complaint was the noise but what do you expect. Of course a lot of people have made it out to be unbearable but its really not too bad. The children didn't even complain. One night we had a man out on the balcony shouting 'Shutup' and we found it hilarious all other nights werent that bad though.Good value for money!

31 March 2008
Very basic hotel, booked last minute, paid next to nothing so was not expecting anything special. Use of other H.top hotels in the resort is good.
Advice for anyone looking to stay at the Olympic, request a room facing the sea, mountain view rooms covered in ants. Had to move rooms. Also a lot of schools use this hotel so in the evenings expect 12-16 year old children in the bar area.
All I can say is you get what you pay for.

hotel of no one' dreams
28 March 2008
Went on a special AOA which showed disabled on booking form. We were put on the top floor 7. Don't book this hotel if you are disabled, due to the number of steps for the pools and don't book in March as it is full of youngsters. Quiet after they went out for the day, but hell when they returned, especially after drinking. Shouting arguing with other guests who asked them to keep the noise down at 3am, only to have your doors knocked and telephone calls. Staff need to go to learn how to smile and work faster, hotel very busy but only 1 sometimes 2 working behind bar. The reservations were made by HTOP and show no compassion for the disabled. Travel company are not to blame.

AWFUL HOLIDAY
09 March 2008
Well where do you start, dated, tired, food very average, dining room more like a very bad Butlins diner. Curtains dirty, and hanging off. Noise noise noise, a school near by and over grown shrub land at the back. Smoking room more like New York in smog. Loads of teenagers staying so they all dived for the diner. The only plus was the reception staff were helpful. Not be staying there again in a hurry.

Never Again
07 March 2008
We went for a short stay of bed and breakfast. The hotel is next to a school and backs up to shrubland. The foyer is clean but that is where the pleasantness finishes. The room is basic and the furniture tired and dated. We could not get a cup of tea once the bar was closed till the breakfast at 8 the next morning. The food was very average and the dining room resembled a Butlins dining room. Except in this case Butlins being the 4 star option. The curtains were hanging off in places and they could have done with a wash. The seperate smoking room was like New York in the smog zone. While we were there a whole hoard of teenagers were staying there and a mean a hoard. The noise was bad and the walls were thin so every teenager playing music and couples arguing were heard in a higher pitch. So i will give this one a miss

DO NOT STAY HERE
19 February 2008
This hotel is the worst place we have ever stayed in. Rooms were SO small, asked for a double room got one with 2 single beds pushed together, the walls are V. thin you can hear everything, literally everything. The food is awul they don't even tell you what it is, there is no music on during the day in the bar not even a background CD. The staff can speak little english and can hardly understand anything. Looks like a council tower block in London. Cannot say enough awful things about the place. Just don't stay there! try somewhere else

ideal for short cheap break
25 January 2008
For four women on a very short break wanting to pay next to nothing this hotel was ok, the room was ideal for two but not four but hey we only slept in the room (good job really as there was no room to move at all). The hotel is reasonably close to the centre and has quiet a few bars around it so good socially. the walls very thin you could hear everything, and I mean everything. We went out of season so the pool area looked a bit drab, the food was so-so.
For me it was your typical Brits in Spain type hotel and not for a quiet break. I would only go back if I could find no where else, at the end of the day you get what you pay for and this was cheap !!

Lloret By Far
24 September 2007
Excited and relaxed we arrived at the hotel to find we had been placed on the 5th floor with my three year old daughter (things could only get better surely).Determined not to let things spoil our holiday we made our way to one of the splash pools. After a short while a european family arrived at the pool with a young child who took it upon himself to urinate at the side of pool, his parents seem to find this amusing. My wife (horrified) went to the reception to inform them but nothing was done, and then the young boy walked through the urine bare foot and then jumped into the pool. Two weeks at the beach was now our only priority. One early morning at 5 a.m a group of drunken men made their way past our rooms rather loudly, my brother in law went out to ask them if they wouldn't mind keeping the noise down as he also had a three year old daughter asleep in bed, Two of the men apologised but a third man took exception to the polite request and decided to abuse my relative, Not wanting to apprehend three drunken men my relative went inside but had his door attacked with the drunken mans foot shouting you german b####rd, now being from lancashire the alcohol the men drank must have been pretty strong. Regarding cleanliness of the hotel our rooms were titivated every day, but my father in laws bed sheets were not changed in two weeks ( a cig burn was the evidence of this). Not wanting to be called a dutch b####rd he didn't complain and slept on towels. The food was basic and of the same variety eveyday and what should have been a all inclusive holiday turned into a self catering holiday. This hotel is wrongly offered to families and is only interested in quantity and not quality of it's clientel, Now there is nothing wrong with that but at least be honest about this. A 15 minute mini disco was the only thing of any substance that was of interest to my daughter. I am not a bitter person so please believe me when I say if you are 18-30 and single this hotel is great, but if you are a family stay well away unless you are very heavy sleepers (i.e nearing death). Lloret would be a more attractive and safer place to stay. As the old saying says "If you pay peanuts you get monkeys" I don't think I like Peanuts anymore

fab holiday a must !
15 September 2007
i stayed at the olympic hotel with my sister and her 12 yr old son...what a fab time! twice we have stayed there and will be going back next year.
i found the staff to be friendly, helpfull and will go out of there way to make it a pleasant stay.
the rooms are basic, but who stays in the room all day? the food was a good selection for all..hot and cold and pleanty of it. although we never stay in the hotel bar as we are always exploring other places, we went in one night and the familys seem to be having a good time, and entertainment was good...flamenco dancers were on ( so its not always discos! )
the pools were always clean and so was ther areas..
i would deffinatley recommend the hotel
you shouldnt just go on holiday to sit in the hotel and moan about it...excellant value for money!....some people are never happy! i and my family were...give it a try

Don't go to this hotel
27 May 2007
My husband and I stayed for 11 nights at this hotel and would never have slept a wink if we hadn't used ear plugs. On arrival we were met by a very angry couple complaining about the noise only to find that our room was on the same floor as theirs (3rd). We went to our room and all that we could see/hear was a group of teenagers shouting and running up and down the corridor. We didn't even unpack but went straight back to reception and asked the manager to change our room. We were given one on the 6th floor which at first we thought was quieter. It over looked the front of the hotel which is a busy road with buses arriving all day/evening long. All that could be heard each night was people shouting, arguing and people returning to their rooms at early hours of the morning hammering on the doors to get in. This hotel is probably ok for young people that just want to drink all day and party all night but if this is not you then don't go there. We used the other hotels in the H Top group but nearly all of them needed updating. The Amaika is the best in Calella but they never took bookings for meals so we couldn't eat there. The rooms are very small and only suitable for 2 people. The beds are made each day but cleaning of room is not very good. The hotel has a very large turnover of guests with coach loads of teenagers arriving daily. Definitely a hotel that we won't be going back to.

Not as bad as expected
20 May 2007
After having read some of the reports we went with the an open mind and the knowledge that if it was that bad we could just us the other hotels for food and entertainment and just sleep at the olympic. The staff were excellant, food you could not complain about there was plenty of fresh salad and bread if you did not want anything hot, hot food there was also fish, poultry and one red meat plus veggie slection, soup and if you didnt fancy that you could go down at snack time and there was burgers and chips. There was also a large selection of deserts and the ice cream was to die for!! Our issue with the food was getting our 6 year old out of the resturant because he would have spent the whole holiday eating!!! Kids club was a big disappointment but then again when had not gone on holiday to palm him of with strangers. ONLY major down side was it is full of young kids out to get drunk and we had some trouble from a group of young germans dancing and partying on the terrace below us but security sorted it out after we had made a complaint. Rooms could do with a refurb but we will be going back to Calella very soon.

The hotel staff with the exception of one receptionist. were surly and unhelpful. The manager with whom I had a conversation was the worst. The food was very poor, and I especially didnt like eating with piles of uncleared plates.

Review of 'TOP OLYMPIC' amazing value for money
23 February 2007
17.02.2007. We arrived at the Olympic with open minds as we had read such conflicting reports. However the all inclusive was such a bargain that we hoped it would at least be good in parts. And it was actually much much better than we'd hoped for. The room we had was at the back of the hotel, it had a balcony, overlooked the pool area and had a fabulous uninterrupted view into the hills. The room was clean and comfortable - good heating - and cleaned daily. The food was good. Lovely tapas, fresh salads and fruit and local dishes including fish. Tea and coffee was available all day - help yourself and I believe snacks were as well but how you'd fit them in I do not know! Entertainment was fine, the youngsters and the older Spanish people enjoyed it. Only negative - when it was busy the bar was understaffed. February is a pleasant time of year to visit and Calella has a good little town and excellent rail links for days out. Basically exceptionally good value for money and lovely people who all worked very hard.

Spent xmas at this hotel, never again! Room was adequate, cleaning staff efficient and friendly. Food was ok typical spanish buffet. The bar was a joke, to get served a bigger joke!! Timed husband queueing for a drink 11mins! Every night was a disco which was so loud you had to lip read. The quiet lounge was always crowded as guests were trying to escape the noise of the disco This holiday didn't cost a lot but I wouldn't say it was worth what we paid. We will certainly never go all inclusive again. Puts you off when some guests start drinking at 10am and seem to drink all day 'til the early hours of the morning then wake everyone up when they decide to try and find their rooms.

Review of H.Top Olympic (Calella)
23 July 2006
We stayed in H.top Olympic in July 06 for a week. The hotel rooms were nice, and the pool area was lovely, lots of room to sunbathe as the weather was lovely. However the food was very repetative, and a lot of the time i wasnt sure what i was eating. The restaurant staff came across rude and unfriendly, although the bar staff were very nice. There was an average standard of entertainment (mostly spanish - which we didnt understand) but it was great for children. The nightlife in the area is almost non existant, but the all inclusive bar in the hotel made up for that.

We went for a long weekend (group of 16 girls- hen night). The hotel was ideal - it was cheap - you pay for what you get. Yes the rooms are very small, especially if there are 4 of you sharing. The hotel is clean and tidy and most of the staff are friendly. The food is average and I recommend you get 2 drinks every time you go up to the bar.
Also recommend you to go to the sister hotels - we went to Amaik - 200 metres away - 4 star - the food was a lot better and the atmosphere was nicer in the restaurant(you have to book the day before).
We had a good time - it was just as we expected for the price we paid

my partner, son and i visited olympic on the 1st sept 05. first impressions of the hotel were good. friendly arrival. rooms were very small only big enough for a couple really. the pools were very nice, everything was clean. some staff were friendly and funny others not so. drinks you will like if you are not fussy. its all cheap stuff but does the job. cocktails available for 2 euros with your all inclusive card.the food was ok but very repetative. sometimes i wasnt too sure what i was eating. the food is much nicer at the sister hotel amaika which you can also eat and drink at with the all inclusive card. the entertainment was great for kids but not much for adults. bar area very nice. the only thing that spoiled this holiday was the weather. we had 3 great days and 4 days of thunder storms. we all came home with sore throats, coughs and colds. it was a nice enough place for the money you pay.

Review of 'OLYMPIC (CALELLA)'
18 August 2005
This hotel was booked last minute by my partner and I and was for a cheap holiday. We paid £520 for the room for the week so were not expecting 5*. The hotel was clean and tidy, in need of decorating and new furniture though. The rooms were big enough for the two of us, air conditioning and balcony were nice. Hotel was not too noisy on a night. The food, overall, was nice - sometimes not to the British taste but still well presented and good quality. The main problem we found was the way things were extremely crammed - sunbeds were crammed up to one another, restaurant tables so crammed you felt you were eating with the people on the table next to you. The average bar queue was 5-10mins through the day and 10-15mins on a night (we do realise however, we were there in August - peak time). The swimming pools (x3) were clean and nice. The main pool was often so busy we couldn't get a sunbed and therefore enjoy going to one of the smaller pools which also proved quieter. We didn't venture far from the hotel with being all inclusive but there were a number of shops and bars within easy walking distance. A couple of "clubs" close by but main night life in Lloret was accessible. The beach was close and seemed quite quiet. Buses and taxis were easy to get and not expensive. We didn't take our daughter with us but noticed that this hotel would be great for families - mini club and disco, very family friendly. All in all this hotel was good - excellent value for money, nice food and drinks, its downfall being the way things were squashed together. A lick of paint wouldn't go a miss either!

Stayed here Oct 04, Hotel was clean and tidy, staff were very good. We went all inclusive and the food was fairly good and there was lots of it. Bar service was 100% as were the bar staff. For an end of season break i found this hotel to be very good value and i will return again.
