Lovely hotel with very friendly and efficient staff. had 3 meals in hotel which were good but there are plenty of restaurants in town offering better value for money and more authentic Portuguese food. Had to get moved to another room after first day as the pool side view is far nicer. Building works at the moment aren't a problem as you are hardly aware of it. Drinks are expensive as you get triple the amount of brandy for instance for a third of the price but I think all hotels of similar standing charge roughly the same. I would not say this is a 5 star hotel but it is a good 4 star and we would happily stay there again, especially as they aren't currently charging 5 star prices for B&B.
