Hotel refurbished, still excellent

01 July 2008
Returned to this hotel June 08 and see it has been partly refurbished. I didn't see anything wrong with it first time I was there anyway, so ,y opinion is still the same - excellent value for money in a great location in the centre of Ennis.

week-end stay

24 September 2007
I came to Ennis friday night with a friend of mine, just to have a glimpse of Ireland; we were very well impressed by the hotel, staff, service, location; but..... if you want to enjoy yourself saturday night up to early morning you can stay in one of the ground floor rooms, but if you want to sleep at least a bit, you must ask for another accommodation: we were continuously awakened by drunk people coming back during the whole night; anyway we enjoyed the town, and we could see also Burnatty and the Cliffs of Moher using local bus in a day and half; too short stay, but enough to say I'll come again.

Temple Gate Hotel, Ennis and around

16 September 2007
Was visiting Ennis on my own and wanted a city centre hotel easy and safe to get to. I have previously stayed at the Old Ground Hotel, which could not be faulted, but always like to try new places. The Temple Gate is a really good hotel, perfect location for the shops, restaurants and pubs in Ennis. Breakfast was a choice of Traditional Clare breakfast, which is a "full Irish" fry up, porridge, srambled eggs and bacon, various croissants, cereals, yoghurts, fruits, etc. Lovely choice. Staff were very helpful, even when I asked if there was a computer point they let me go into their office to print off my boarding pass for my flight. They aslo did a bit a photocopying for me for no charge. Very helpful and friendly. As I said the hotel is in a great location, easier if you are walking in, a bit more difficult to drive in due to having to drive around a ring road to get to the access road, but you get used to it. There is a free car park, just ask the reception when leaving the car park for a token. Rooms have tea and coffee making facilites and when I asked for some more milk I was brought a tray full of tea, coffee, milk and biscuits and told to keep them all. There is a "Great Hall", a function hall, which used to be the chapel when part f the hotel used to be a convent many years ago. If you have a car, you must visit the Cliffs of Moher, Doolin and then take the coast road towards Ballyvaughan to the Burren - its gorgeous. Other nice places to stop are Kilfenora, with the smallest cathedral in the world and the high crosses in it, great food at Vaughan's pub, also Lahinch, Fenore and Lisdoonvarna- especially in September for the Matchmaking Festival. This is an old tradition when farmers were introduced to suitable partners but now its a great music festival, day and night. I thought it would be worrying driving on the country roads in Ireland, but was easy and plenty signs. I also found drivers were very courteous to other drivers. Can't wait to go back.

Convenient Location

20 August 2007
A very conveniently situated hotel in the middle of Ennis - with free parking. The room decorations were a little 'tired', although not too bad. Breakfast was good and the service excellent.

Irish hospitality at its best

13 August 2006
I had read reviews on Trip Advisor shortly before travelling and was concerned with what I read. I was pleasantly surprised on arrival, what a gorgeous hotel being just around the corner from the quaint town. The hotel rooms were excellently decorated with carpets, furnishings and also one single and one double bed in each room. A hairdryer and coffee making facilities also included.

The dining room setting together with the quality of meals have been awarded for their excellence. Breakfast which was included in the price, was plentiful with a great choice of cereals, croissants, yoghurts and juices with cooked breakfast made to order. (I left feeling like I had stepped back in time to the traditional way of life).

Well done Temple Gate and Alpha rooms we very much look forward to visiting again soon.
