Staunton House
06 March 2007
The experience of Staunton House was one of deja vu... having stayed in a hotel about three doors up a few months ago, everything seemed very familiar and yet slightly out of place. This might explain why we managed to go up the wrong stairwell on at least three occassions over the two days we were there.
The hotel did everything one would expect of a reasonably priced central London hotel. Although the decor was in need of a bit of an update - the painted marble look in the corridors was interesting, and we saw a similar effect in a church in India recently, but I don't think it translated well to a terrace in Bloomsbury - the room was comfortable enough, breakfast edible enough (my wife was particularly enamoured of her cheese omlette...), and the staff were friendly and helpful.
The location was excellent - just off Oxford street and Tottenham Crt Rd (precipitating a good deal of shopping...)and only a short stagger home from our evening with friends).
The only draw back was that the bed seemed to be two singles pushed together rather than a double, but that could just be me being picky.
In all a enjoyable stay.
