I booked on line through NO FRILLS and was a bit worried as to what it would be like. Everything went so smooth and our apartment was excellent. Every thing was in it, even an iron and ironing board. A very helpful reception, good shops, restaurants, entertainment, and a wonderful beach. The sea was crystal clear. It is a nudist friendly beach, and after a few giggles on the first day, we gave it a go. Burning our pure white bottoms put a stop to it! Things are dearer now, as to be expected, because of the euro. Can`t wait to go back.

Menorca - Son Bou Gardens
23 August 2009
Very good complex with good facilities and good entertainment although disappointed that we had to pay for sunbeds at one of the pools on the complex. The weather was too hot and the ceiling fans didn't help at all really, definately needs aircon introducing throughout. We would definately stay there again but when the weather is a little cooler.

Menorca - Son Bou Gardens
07 August 2008
An excellent group of well planned complex of small blocks of two storey apartments. We were in zone 5 which was the furthest from the town centre and it was about 15 minutes walk from the restaurants + another 5 to the beach. It a little frustrating that the beach is 2 minutes as the crow flies but 20 minutes by foot due to the imposed conservation area seperating the apartments from the beach. It was too hot really to walk with small kids so we just spent the thime by the excellent pools. One word of warning though, the apartments are self catering and the kitchens was well kitted out with microwave , fridge freezer and full cooker but the 'supermarkets' (about half tesco express size) were very limited and VERY expensive - expecially for imported kids stuff. 10 Birds eye fish fingers £6! Apart from that it was great. Complex is very well run with towels and bedding supplied and changed a couple of times a week. The complany puts on nightly shows of very good quality so there's plenty to do up to 11PM. It was VERY hot (August) even at night even with the ceiling fans running.

First visit to Menorca and Son Bou. This is a great spot for a family holiday. Our children aged 15 were just within the age range and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Weather was superb and the beach is as everyone says, beautiful and easy to get to from these apartments. The accomodation itself was adequate but are in need of some modernisation. But, hey, you dont go to menorca to spend the whole week in your room! All in all a very relaxing week and would recommend this location.

Fantastic - our 5th visit
23 June 2008
Son Bou Gardens never disappoints! Good accomodation, spacious and well equipped. Ceiling fans work very well in the heat! Beautiful gardens and grounds all very spacious and immaculate. Maze on site plus water slides and only 5 minutes walk to the beautiful beach and little town - the town has come a long over the years with new bars and restaurants springing up all the time. This resort and accomodation are excellent for families - we have a 15 year old daughter and 7 year old son and they always love coming here - nobody wanted to go home and we will definitely return again. Reception staff excellent and nothing too much trouble. Highly recommended.

31st July 2007
This was our 2nd year at Son Bou gardens & wouldn't hesitate in returning again!
The apartments are very clean with regular maid service.....receptionist & staff are very helpful.
Club San Jaime is excellent with good entertainment & friendly waiters / bar staff. Lots for kids to do which seems a safe environment. The on site bakery & supermarket are handy.
We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 week stay

We stayed for a week and had a great time, resort is great for kids but beware it is very small and you may tire of it if there for a fortnight without a car. The beach is fantastic; buy a snorkel and go around the rocks near the ancient temple. The apartments are showing their age and need updating but the price easily balances this out. However if you intend to go in July/August beware there is no air conditioning (ceiling fans fitted to bedrooms) and you are slowly cooked during the night. As a result we would not go back to this accommodation.

We stayed for a week and had a great time. We were in zone 5 which was a bit of a walk to son bou center. the room was clean and bright with the maid service done twice in a week. The pool is quite big in zone 5 and if you could be bothered to be there for about 9am you can get your towels on the sun loungers for the day.The beach is great, the sea shallow for quite a long way out. I would recommend buying your own umbrella for 9 euros or so rather than paying the beach prices. I found the prices on the complex a little expensive but better value in son bou and even better further afield. All in all a very nice holiday and my 4 year old loved it.

30 June 2007
Overall we had an excellent holiday. Upon our booking we had requested two apartments together as we were two families with children aged 2 & 3, however upon arrival we were some 50 meters away which were unhappy about, however the receptionist was very understanding and managed to get us two apartments together and although we had to wait an hour or so for them to be cleaned this was not a problem - we got what we asked for.
The apartments are quite basic and old fashioned but clean which is the main thing. The only problem we had were the ants there were thousands of them, however upon letting reception know they immediately supplied us with ant killer which was amazing and got rid of nearly all of the ants.
We were located in Zone 4 of the complex which was ideal for us as were close to the small pool which we found the best for children but not too far away for the entertainment on an evening. The entertainment was excellent for families with tribute bands in the Club San Jaime bar and in the Garden Bar it was great for kids as the Club reps put on childrens shows every night which our kids loved.
The resort of Son Bou is a great destination for families, there are plenty of bars and restaurants and down near the front there are trampolines, bouncy castles, go carts etc which were not bad value for money.
The beach in Son Bou is lovely and safe for children and is said to be the best on the island, however we had rented a mini bus and visited many places on the island and personally I preferred the beach at Cala Galdana absolutely beautiful and set in a cove.
We would not hesitate to go back to Son Bou or Menorca and would definitely stay in the Son Bou Gardens again - great holiday!

Review of 'Son Bou Gardens'
26 October 2006
Not much has changed in 11 yrs since we last visited a few more shos and bars ( not a bad thing). Still a great holiday destination for families. Beware when going in Autumn half term as the bars and shops are winding down and if you are intending to feed yourself the shelfs are quite empty of essentials. Had to resort to having long life milk for tea and coffe YEUK. Weather was gorgeous there was a bit of cloud but still plenty of sunshine and warmth.
All in all a great weeks break the Kids loved the Club San Jaime pool open to all if you use there bar and food services although we also made rolls and such for lunch around the pool with no problems.

Overall the complex is very good for families and young children. Our apartment did need upgrading badly and we found it 'slightly shabby'.
Beach is excellent at San Bou and the Entertainment tribute bands at night were very good.
It is recommended you hire a car to explore the island.

Found the apartments to be quite dingy, needs updating. Also they were not that clean. On the day we left I found the showers in the reception area to be cleaner. Towels and bedding were only changed once. I have been with alpha rooms before to binibeca club and they were spotless and clean and beds etc changed most days.

The apartments were in a lovely location, although we were a little far from the reception and the beach. We found the restaurants and bars quite pricey, but on a whole the food was ok. if you or any of your party are disabled, i would not recommend this resort as there are no facilities for wheelchairs, there are alot of hills and steps, although the staff were very accomadating and provided us with a minibus on several occassions to get us to the beach and the main resort.
The room was clean and spacious and the local area very quiet.
Sunbeds were expensive 8Euros on the beach and 4Euros by the main pool which was not too bad-water slide cost 1euro for 1 go which we begrudged paying.
i don't think any of out group would return to Son Bou or even Menorca-but don't let that put you off-it's a beautiful place and Son Bou is a resort more suited to parties with children.

This is the 3rd year in a row that we have stayed at Son Bou Gardens, the apartments are always very clean, spacious and well equiped and any problems have always been sorted out promptly. Rooms are cleaned twice a week with clean sheets, towels etc and staff are very courteous. We have two children aged 11 and 8 and each year we have visited we have always felt that they have been in a safe enough environment to go off on their own within the complex without us having to worry about them. The complex itself is very child friendly with a play area, swimming pools, water park, maze, childrens clubs and nightly entertainment in the nearby San Jaimie Club. The complex is split into 5 zones each being well maintained with the apartments situated in very pretty garden areas where children can play and make friends. We feel this holiday is very family orientated none of your club 18-30s and no rowdyness or noise at night and we would highly reccommend it to any family going abroad for the first time. Son Bou beach is only a short distance away and is one of the biggest and best beaches in Menorca and is very clean and safe with plenty to occupy all ages. All in all this holiday is well worth the money

We were greeted at the reception by a friendly English speaking receptionist who treated us efficiently and speedily. We were given a free courtesy lift to our apartment and helped with our bags. Instead of an expected apartment, we were allocated a semi-detached villa, which was excellent. The facilities we used were good, the 'gardens' mainly catering for the family. We had a relaxed week, either around the villa or at the nearby excellent beach. The resort itself has plenty of places to eat etc and was well worth the stay for a week.

Complex excellent. Mostly families. Apartments/gardens well kept, clean & well equipped. Apartment had TV aerial but you must bring your own if you want TV. Didn't feel the need. Furthest apartments are approx 10 mins walk from resort centre/beach although there is a beach bus (free to residents) & tourist 'train'. Swimming pools & Italian restaurant at one end, supermarket/restaurant in middle. Worth hiring a car if you want to go beyond the resort. Reception staff very helpful/friendly. Find out when maids are due. Beach beds are extortionate. Was so happy went back again 3 weeks later. Booked flight, room, transfer, car all independantly. Saved money. Resort centre has shops, restaurants/bars (1 disco I believe, never went).

We were placed in the El Girasols part of Son Bou Gardens and were impressed with the 2 bedroomed apartment. It had been recently modernised, had great views over the pool and onto the nature reserve next to the beach. The whole of this complex is set in pretty green gardens and is ideal for those with families. There are several pools, and eating areas, with a very good restaurant above the San J'aime club. The maid service is provided every other day with provision of fresh towels etc. We have been here several times before but this was the best apartment we've had. It represented very good value for money.

the apartment was a little dated and uncomfortable as you had to sit on a concrete base with a foam matress on top. It was not the cleanest of places despite the cleaners wanting us out two hours before our check out time, the electrical items were new exept there was no tv.as a base to exlore the rest of the island it was ok but i would not like to stay there for to long, and at the end of the day the price was right and you do get what you pay for.

We chose the resort as a first toe in the water to Spanish hols, done some European and long haul US trips in true road movie style so thought closer to home this time for relaxation.
As a hard partying 50 something couple the balance was about right - off season not too many young uns but also not too lad / ladette oriented either.
The Son Bou resort is the best on the Island in my opinion (we visited all of 'em) but for me a week was right as the Island is too small for longer stays unless you really do sit on the beach / poolside the whole time.
Last comment, get a car, skip transfer fees and save a fortune on all the "only a few places left day trips". I booked separate flights, accommodation and car rental, saved a fortune and didn't have to sit around on the last day with suitcases waiting far a bus to the airport.

Had a thoroughly enjoyable time at the resort and a great week.
Upon arrivaal was worried that perhaps it was more of a family resort however, although family orientated, we found that there was more than enough foor us to do.
Great facilities, the pool complex at San Jaime is particularly good. There are also plenty of restaurants to choose from as well as good cheap bus links to the rest of the island.
All in all, nice appartments, huge beach and everything you could need for a great couple's holiday!!!
