Had a great time

14 October 2008
Just back after 2 weeks at this hotel and it was great. Five of us, all over 70. Had been there last year and loved it. Views were fantastic and rooms were lovely. There was a great choice of food, breakfast was great, and the staff were lovely. It was one of the partys birthday while we were there and the staff sent up a bottle of bubbly without anyone asking. Must have realised off passport when we checked in. A lovely surprise!! Definitely going back next year.

Stayed at Hotel Chihuahuas on the 9th floor. Room benefitted from having great sea views, sun rise was an amazing site early in the morning. Overall apart from the sea views hotel only average and needing an immediate update. No air conditioning in the room apart from ceiling fan meant very hot at night. Room large but basic no tv or fridge. Guest areas ok, pool and surroundings nice. Food as you would expect from 3* hotel offering buffet. Choice quite extensive for both breakfast and evening meal always plenty of hot choice for evening meal and usual english breakfast option. Dining room overlooking the sea was very pleasant and all staff we encountered were very obligible and friendly. For families with children who are looking for a nice stay in a hotel with entertainment this is an ideal choice with both daily and evening entertainment and quite good too. For the more adventurous people who are not into lounging around the pool then Calas de Mallorca can be quite secluded and out on a limb. Town is small and once you have looked round it once then you have done it. Hourly bus service to Porto Cristo, Cala Bona and Sa Coma but to other towns it is very poor and quite expensive too. Easier to hire a car and do it yourself. Overall I wouldnt stay at this hotel again only because of the resort of Calas De Mallorca. Saying that Mallorca is a truly lovely island and definitely worth of a return visit and Cala Bona would be my choice.

Best holiday ever

17 July 2008
I stayed at the Sol Chihuahuas for 10 days with my daughter. Was a bit apprehensive after reading some reviews. The view from the room took my breath away. The food was amazing. Yeah the decor was a bit dated but the rooms were massive and the staff were so friendly. The kids rep Diogo was brilliant, my daughter loved him and Michelle couldnt wait to get there every day. The entertainment team were fantastic especiallt Fantasia!!! Can't wait to go back next year.

Exceptional Value

07 July 2008
This was the third year that we have stayed at Sol Mastines and I can honestly say this hotel offers great value for money. Yes it is a bit dated in decor, but the food it great, offering a wide ranging choice everynight. The grounds are very nice, well kept, clean with no rubbish spoiling the place. The swimming pools are a fantastically clean and not overcrowed atall. The evening entertainment is a great laugh, some professional acts alongwith with some audience participation. All the staff were very friendly, our room was cleaned everyday, along with replacement towles everyday. This year we did not hire a car and prefered instead to book the Shuttle bus using Alpha rooms. The shuttle bus was easy to use, ontime and good value for the 5 people in our party. It took 40 minutes from the airport to get to the resort which was the beauty of using the shuttle service. Overall I would say that this Sol hotel has lived upto my expectations again and we all had another very pleaseant holiday. We will go back again toward the end of the season and indeed next year.

Very Disapointed

24 September 2007
Just arrived back from the Chihuahus,Beautiful grounds, food good, but our room was not cleaned from the moment we arrived, our bed was not changed or made properley each day I had to straighten the bottom sheet each day,it was left all rumpled up.You had to pay for hair dryer,Television.Fridge & safe which was quite expensive. But there was plenty of sun beds & grounds wich were kept very clean.

Excellent Fortnight

13 August 2007
Just come back from our first stay at this hotel. Lovely food and top class entertainment for both adults and children - Joselito one of the entertainers is particularly good - on top form all day long didn't see him with a grumpy face all fortnight. Rooms, buffet clean and tidy as is pool area. Only 2 minor disadvantages, lifts particularly slow, especially as my father joined us for second week and as a disabled person had to wait sometimes up to 20 mins for a lift to the restaurant. Also no windows and poor air-conditioning in restaurant which sometimes make it a bit unpleasant to eat hot food and sun streams in through windows - but on the whole an excellent holiday would definitely hope to go back again next year.

This was our second visit to the Mastines/Chihuahuas. The rooms are spacious and very clean, with spectacular views from the balcony. There is a good choice of food in the buffet restaurant. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed it so much, we're booked to go again in September.

26 July 2007
This is the first time i've stayed at the hotel.I thought the staff were friendly, the food was lovely and plenty of choice. The sea view was beautiful, the bedroom was spacious and clean. The only drawback was that the pool was too deep for non-swimmers,as I am.Brilliant entertaiment in the the hotel and also the local bars.I will be going back there soon.

3rd visit!

08 July 2007
i've given a review of this hotel before, and really cant change anything i've said before. we went for a week's break to relax and forget about work, and my goodness we definitely did that! the hotel was just as welcoming as usual, the food just as good, and the views still to die for. the staff were so friendly and carlos ,the manager, was so attentive. Dont think there is any thing to say bad about this hotel. will definitely be going back for a fourth time.

16 June 2007
We have been to the resort before but stayed at this hotel for the first time. The location is superb. The pool is great but the food is not brilliant. There is no television in the bedroom which is quite disappointing for our 17 years old son. For peace and quite I would definitely recommend this hotel.

stayed at this hotel for the second time .This years room was not as good as last years. also the food although good and plentiful had deteriorated slightly from last year. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Pools clean and no rush for the sunbeds. The only real downside is the lifts very slow and not enough of them. will still return again. Its just a shame they have let the food slip slightly from last years fabulous standard .

Spring Bank Holiday 2007

04 June 2007
Me, Husband, Daughter of 7 years and Husbands Parents in their 70's. We had a fantastic time. The hotel is very clean and good service. If you go spot the receptionist we called grumpy. The rooms are very clean and a very good maid service everyday. The swimming pools are very nice and the indoor one is a god send for May/June. The views from the balcony are spectacular, especially when you have a thunder storm. It can get a little windy so you may need an extra layer of clothes at night. The surrounding area has plenty of shops and restaurants and good value for money. Overall we had a very good time and we would recommend this hotel to all age groups.

Review of 'SOL MASTINES CHIHUAHUAS'

08 November 2006
Having read the reviews prior to our visit in September 2006, we were somewhat anxious on what we might find.  No need to worry though as holiday was excellent value for money.  Staff at reception were always courteous and helpful.  We arrived late at night so had missed the eve meal; again no need to worry as the chef made us welcome and provided a substantial 'spread' of cold meats, assorted salads and bread and a large bowl of fresh fruit. Yes, the food overall could have been better but there was always plenty of something to eat and the fact that I put on half a stone speaks for itself.  The room was spacious, cleaned daily  and there was plenty of room around the pools.  Would definitely consider returning to 'Chihuahuas' again.

I booked Sol Mastines independantly through alpha rooms, never been before and was worried about how to find the hotel as we were arriving late in the evening. No problems finding the hotel and the resort, signpost for both were excellent even the hotel had a sign post in the resort.  The hotel was excellent the staff were very friendly and would say it caters for both young and old but may be abit remote for some. We hired a car and saw quite abit of the island and would say it was good to have a car but there is everything in the resort you need even if you just want to chill.  Would recomend the hotel and would go back again

Review of 'SOL MASTINES CHIHUAHUAS'

28 August 2006
well what can i say about this hotel. well the hotel was great, it had many activities for differnet ages. they  had water polo for the adults and teenages, also they had other things such as shooting, darts ect. The hotel rooms werew wonderful. From the room the view was amazing. all of the rooms has a sea view. the meals were great u had a wide range of different things to eat. the pools were great especially if u wanted to just have a swimm here would be plenty of room for u to do so. Also the staff there kept the children and the adults entertained. The staff put on some good shows e.g. there was a show in which the staff sang and danced to many different songs. Some of them songs were everybody needs somebody by the blues brothers, two of the male staff performed a dance routine, which was some what amusing. they also performed to other songs like night fever ect. so i think the entertainment was really good. If u didnt want to stay in the hotel to see there entertainment u could just walk along the road and u would be at a bar called the rock cola bar. It had really good entertainment such as the beegees, the 4 tops, lionel richie ect. Aswell as he entertainment the staff/waiters were excellent. When i went to this bar (most of the holiday)there was a happy hour nearly every hour in which u got 2 drinks for the price of one. There were also many other places u could go for a drink. Also there was a place for the kids to go. It had go karts and many more rides. So overall the hotel and the area in which the hotel was in was exellent. I would recomend this to any one of any age.

I have been going to this hotel for the past 9 years with my mum, dad and sister and absolutely love it! The hotel is fantastic with the view of the sea, on a morning fantastic sitting on balcony watching the sunrise! All the staff are very welcoming espesh when you arrive and are greeted with a cup of pure orange juice, just what you need after all the traveling! The entertainment staff are wicked too, José and Tony who we knew from last year, recognised us the instant we got there! And ive got to give a special mention to BooBoo/Juan weve known him for years and never changes..he doesnt need to he's the best barman weve ever met! During the day the clubs are definetly beneficial! If you get bored of just laying about in the sun you can join the clubs. You do various activities throughout the day and if you win an event you are presented with a certificate on the night. Entertainment on the night is particulary good when the entertainers are doing the show however didnt really like the professional ones. Overall, I give this hotel 10/10 and we will enjoy coming back for years to come!! You should deff book this hotel you wont regret it!!

Just arrived back from Calas de Mallorca this morning. Went with girlfriend and her family. The hotel is brill, the entertainment staff are wicked (Jose and Angelo - crazy!),food pretty good, both swimming pools are also really good and big. Lifts can be a bit slow at busier times etc. breakfast. Rooms clean, good balcony view and fan keeps room cool. For those who like water polo, then you'll love it as the over 18s game usually turned into a wrestling match in water every day! Also there are shooting competitions and things which are also good and a way to socilize. Evening entertainment is not too good - OK for those looking for more of a quieter evening but the Adam V Eve show (MEN V WOMEN) is well worth watching. For the younger people (I'm 17) the nightlife is a lot better than all the reviews say. The area is often described as quiet at night, however if you wait until midnight, the area really livens up.Papaguay's , Sinatras and Tiffanys are really good for young people. All open till 5am - go to Tiffs for a mint clubbing experiece. Rock COlas is also ok to begin the night with as drinks are B.O.G.O.F from 6pm till 3am. BEach is about 10 minute walk from hotel and can be crowded so this is the only negative thing. Transfer is 65 - 70 minutes from Palma. The hotel is very multi cultural - English, Spanish, Germans, French and there was a few Belgians but the majority are English and the non english guests tend to still be friendly and like to join in the games. Overall, a very good holiday, good for people out for a quiet holiday yet good for the young people at night if that's what you want.Gets my vote!

Review of 'SOL MASTINES CHIHUAHUAS'

01 July 2006
We (my wife, myself, 2 year old and his nanna and Grandad)have just got back from 10 days in Sol Mastines Chihuahuas  It was an excellent holiday, the hotel was fantastic value for money.  The food was very good with a wide variety on offer everyday - you could eat as much or as little as you like. The food was great for my 2 year old because he could try many different things.  The swimming pools were great, the "big" pool was fantastic and at any given time you could always have a great swim without being bumped into by other people.  There was always plenty of sunbeds available which, unlike some hotels, did not cost anything extra.  The accommodation was very comfortable and clean, the maid came everyday and also changed the towels everyday.  We were on the third floor and the views were fantastic, overlooking the sea and the hotel grounds.  There are a number of kids clubs available all free of charge - my son did not stay there on his own but many others did, the people in charge of it were very nice and the facilities were very safe and secure.  All in all I would say that the hotel and the staff were excellent - the hotel is problably best suited to young families and mature couples - it is not a hotel or resort for young couples looking for night life and all night parties. I will be going back here in September and would wholeheartedly recommend the hotel to people who want a good, clean hotel, with good facilites, good food and a good atmosphere.

19 June 2006
My husband and I stayed at Sol Mastines in Calles de Mallorca in June 2006 for 5 days. The hotel generally was very clean and looked after except there were quite a few bits of litter on the grassy part of the sunbathing area which we didn't appreciate.  The rooms were very spacious and maid service was available daily. The food was plentiful and varied and the staff seemed friendly and helpful. We were also pleasantly surprised at how reasonable drinks were at the bar.

Except for the long airport transfer (almost 2 hours) from Palma Airport I would recommend this hotel mainly to families as it had lots of activities for children but many acitivities for adults. We enjoyed our stay and felt it was good value for money through Alpharooms.

i've already done a review for this hotel when my husband and i stayed there last year. this time it was a group of six ladies, ages varying from 27 to 59. we had a super time, with lovely food, superb views and spotlessly clean rooms. the staff were pleasant, and we had a lovely few days there. maybe we were alittle early in the season, and some of the local bars didn't have the full entertainment, but the staff in the hotel put on some good nights.

My husband and myself have stayed at this hotel at least 8 times. It is a superb hotel, please ignore negative comments that you may read (perhaps the people concerned shoud hired a private island). The staff at this hotel are hard working and friendly, the rooms all have breath taking views of the sea and he food is excellent. Perhaps the resort is not for party animals; that could be a good thing! In short if you want a fab value for money holiday try the mastines chihuahuas. Adios amigos!

15 September 2005
Went early September 2005 as a couple in late 40`s. Can`t fault anything about our stay except there was a big queue at breakfast ONCE. Apparently sudden arrival of two coachloads. If you want a peaceful holiday ( which we did ) then this suits fine. The food is superb ( and we are fussy  a bit .)No problem with sunbeds as there are loads unused every day. Rooms are good and the view from the rooms is superb. Found the hotel itself suited all our needs, and the beds were made up every day. Anyone looking for noise and action and loads in the vacinity then this is not for you. We found the drinks were basically the same as small outside cafes/bars (which was surprising). To sum up... if you want a nice peaceful relaxing holiday that has nice rooms excellent sea views, superb food, nice hotel grounds surroundings without nuisance background noise then this is probaly it. We will go back.

Me and my hubby spent a week in this hotel july 2005 The hotel was brilliant with breath taking views.  The food was to a very high standard although some dinners where repeated but their was a wide range to suit even the pickiest eaters. The room was comfortable with the added bonus of a ceiling fan to cool us down after such hot weather.  Although their was a beach next to the hotel the best beach was the domingo which was not far away within walking distance, there was also a train/come bus service which took you there for 2 euro's.  The hotel staff where very helpful, polite and cheerful.  The maid was wonderful - all the hotel staff went out of their way to help in any way that they could. The only fault that me and my hubby found was that there was not much night life to be found in the small town centre although there were a few bars not many of them sold cider which hubby drinks so we had to stick to the same places. The hotel provided entertainment but because we didn't have the kids with us we didn't use it.  In our opinion the hotel and this holiday would be great for families with children under the age of about 11 and older people who are looking for a lovely retreat.  But not for party animals.  We did have a great time it was a very relaxing holiday.

we were very impressed with this hotel. From the minute we entered the hotel (at 4am.-nearly 4hours late) were treated with kindness from all members of the staff. The room was big, and although there was no air conditioning, the ceiling fan provided a very cool environment. The food was beautiful,at both the breakfast and evening meal there was food being freshly cooked by their chefs. The view from the bedroom was just breathtaking. This was the second time we visited this hotel - first in Sept 2003 and now in June 2005.
The staff were all extremely friendly and polite. Even when we checked in we were greeted with a drink and a hello from the Hotel General Manager.
The room was very clean and with great views of the pools below and the sea. I must say the sea breeze was greatly needed during the day and night. This is a good family hotel and certainly caters for them with kids clubs morning and afternoon. Even the adults can get involved with various activities. What makes this hotel better than most is the restaurant with a fantastic array of food to suit everyone. The evening entertainment is ok, again the kids are kept busy joining in with the entertainment staff to create shows (early evening). One or two nights were pretty good. The hotel is well positioned to visit the relatively small resort of bars, restaurants and shops all of which are not bad (10 mins slow walk to the centre).
All in all a great place to relax and enjoy for everyone.

If you book with Alpharooms and get flights direct it will save you a packet on the travel agent price. Even the transfer price is cheaper if you book direct on line.(transunion)
