I stayed at Sol Lanzarote for a week with my husband and 2 year old daughter on a self-catering basis. The complex was lovely, however, for self-catering facilities I don't believe it should have a 4 star status. The kitchen area was very small, with only 2 rings and a microwave. We hired a kettle for €7.50, and would have had to hire a toaster also if we wanted. Apart from knives, forks and spoons, the only utensils available for cooking was a soup spoon and egg lifter - it was difficult trying to strain a pot of spaghetti with a spoon and fork!
Every night there was entertainment in the hotel, usually singers / dancers, for an hour before this the childrens' entertainers "entertained" the children, they basically blew up a couple of balloons, or face painted, then they disappeared for the rest of the time whilst the kids just ran round the stage occupying themselves. Childrens' music played in the background, but it would have been better if the entertainers stayed with the kids and encouraged them to dance to the music.
Overall though, our stay was very good. The location is great, very handy to the beach and nice restaurants / bars.
