Brilliant Hotel

30 July 2008
Just back from one week half board in Don Pablo Hotel. We really enjoyed our stay. This hotel has something for everyone- a kids club, five pools, a jacuzzi, a bowling green, tennis courts, card rooms and of course, bars. For those who feel energetic there is aqua keep fit every morning and water volley ball. You can even learn to dance with dance lessons on Monday and Wednesdays. The evening entertainment was good bit we tended to go to the old town at night to soak up the local atmosphere. The staff in every department were most accommodating and friendly. The room was spacious, well equipped and spotless. The food was lovely- varied and tasty. Cava, Spanish Champagne, for breakfast what more can I say! Even though the restaurant was extremely busy the staff were so efficient that you were never left waiting to be seated. The hotel is ideally located on the seafront in Torremolinos near to shops, bars and the lovely beach. Close to Malage - a train journey return costs only €1.70. We hired a Renault Cleo for a day trip down the coast to Marbella and Puerto Banus. It cost €68 plus full tank. Well worth it for the sights and experience of driving in Spain. Overall we were most impressed with the Don Pablo and could highly recommend it to any one seeking a varied relaxed holiday. Mary.

09 July 2008
Arrived 11am Tuesday morning 1/7/08 room not ready , reception very friendly and got a nice room at 12oclock. Try and get a room with an EVEN number as these have the best views. Hotel very pleasent and roomy , facilities great plenty to do during the day and if you have a young family they will be entertained all day . 3 Pools well laid out within spacous grounds. Only slight problem as i use a walking stick there is a few stairs within the grounds , i did manage them but more ramps would help.Hotel in perfect location for beach and shops along promanade, 10 mins walk to start of San Maguel shopping it is located up a steep hill accessed by steps or as i used a 3min taxi ride 6 euros from Hotel. Room at hotel spotless and we had a queen bed , TV some Brittish chanels, towels changed every morning, large balcany. F ood in hotel varied i ate from the Italian section most nights my wife enjoyed the good choice of salads .Would definetly go back to this hotel.

Unfriendly inefficient staff

20 May 2008
The hotel is beautiful and well located. Clean, comfortable and well maintained. The pools and surrounding areas are great. The bedroom walls are very thin, you can hear every noise from the adjoining rooms and from the rooms above. The restaurant is extremely busy making it somewhat uncomfortable. The quality of the food could be better although there is a good selection. The air conditioning didn't appear to be working making all areas including rooms bar and restaurant very hot. The staff are unfriendly and inefficient. No smiles or greetings, no please, thank you, hope you enjoyed your stay or sorry's. except for the animation team who are very lively. The evening entertainment was quite good. We will not be back again, we were not made to feel wecome.

my holiday views

20 April 2008
Arrived at 10 in the morning, very nice reception showed my letter from alpha rooms, nice room although weather sheeting with rain. Could'nt locate my mother and her sister first thing, so met up with my brother and family at a near by hotel. West back to the hotel about 4 found mum and her sister, had a apperatif before dinner. Found restaurant very busy but the hotel seem to have found a way of making things run very smoothly, food very good, lots of nice fish dishes and paella. Entertainment in the main ballrom very good and poplular. Next day weather improving found a nice pitch to sunbathe, glorious beach also within easy reach. Had a fabulous few days break came back with nice tan. I would class the hotel as 4 star which I think is its rating. Some rooms slightly sad around the edges need a little updating, although cleanliness A1 just about everywhere, bedrooms, bathrooms, corridors and restaurant. Will probably go again and enjoyed the whole trip. Flew in early on the Tuesday and flew late on the following Tuesday so I was able realy to have almost 9 days for the price of 7. Helen Stroud.

Dom Pablo - Knight of Nights

03 March 2008
So impressed were we with the Don Pablo and Don Hotels complex that we returned there for a second visit. Returning to a particular hotel is something we have never done before in thirty years of travelling. The Dom Pablo is something special. It has its own special ethos. There is a synergy about the place where all the individual factors that make your stay wonderful are enhanced by the team effort dislayed by all the staff. Excellence was the order of the day across all departments - restaurants, bars, entertainment, rooms and hygiene, room service and pool area. The Don Pablo is a long established hotel and is held in high esteem within the local community of Torremolinos. At the gateway to the Costa del Sol the Don Pablo sets the standard for customer care so high that it will be impossible for us to pass on our next visit.

We'll be back

21 January 2008
Although a modern hotel the Don Pablo had a wonderful old spanish feel. Lots of features - wood panelling, spanish tiles, tapestries, solid occasional tables etc. Staff were very good and helped whenever they could. Wonderful views over the pool and the sea and a very nice garden area. Three Sol hotels together so you could use the facilities in any of them. Food was fine. There was a good choice but as with all mass catering not always as hot as it could be. Microwaves in the dining room did mean that you could reheat veg. The hotel was spotless (even under the beds) and were a good size. Hotel was well positioned on the sea front with easy access up the cliffs (steps or a lift) to the town. Very quiet in Jan as many places closed but this is what we wanted. Would not hesitate to go back

Another visit

18 December 2007
This was the second time in the same year we visited the Don Pablo. As we arrived early the Staff in Reception went out of their way to find a room (which suited us) so that we did not have to wait long. As usual the rooms were clean and we enjoyed the food. We think the approach to the Hotel could do with a facelift as it looks somewhat dated. The arrangement of taxi's to and from the airport was again first class. Thank you Alpharooms you have done a good job again. (Keep it up as we are coming again in Feb/Mar 2008)

Great Hotel

16 November 2007
As we approached the Hotel main entrance the outer facade was a little disappointing, but once inside our doubts quickly disappeared, the staff were certainly welcoming and friendly, cases were taken to our room as we checked in, the decor and general upkeep of the Hotel is superb. The rooms are cleaned daily with a change of towels as required. The Restaurant food was good but not exceptional, and not too wide a choice of dishes. The outdoor pools were nice, but the inside one was a little dated and tatty. The gardens were very well maintained. It was a great joy to find a full length bowling green (artificial turf) and completely free to use. If we had one complaint it would be that rooms facing the bowling green had very poor air conditioning, even though it was November time, the heat was uncomfortable, and made it difficult to sleep, I would suggest asking for a room facing the pool area which are much cooler and also have a better outlook to beach and hills. In conclusion the Hotel was excellent and we would have no hesitaion in recommending it.

We are a disabled couple in our late seventies. From the beginning starting at the reception the hotel staff went out of their way to give us every assistance down to the last detail. Our room was splendid - just what we asked for. Dining was a pleasure with great detail paid to including a variety of dishes. Our room was spotless (as was the rest of the hotel). We are frequent travellers and will certainly visit this and other Sol hotels again. Grenville Galley, Worksop, Notts.

Check you booking's

17 October 2007
When we arrived at the Sol Don Pablo, we were pleased with the overall look of the place. The Entrance lobby was very big and airy, spotlessly clean. A suprise was waiting for us at reception though. Upon showing my letter of conformation and payment of booking from Alpharooms, I was told, "Sorry I can't find a booking for you". They were very pleasant about it and said to give them a few minutes and they would see if they could find us a room. Panic set in with me straight away. I am disabled and in a wheelchair, I had to go outside for a while, I could not just wait in case they said they could not find a room. They did find us a room, NOT the double that we had booked and paid for, it was a twin. We were told our room number and what floor it was on and had to make our own way there, even though we had me in a wheelchair and two cases. The room was lovely. It was on the 7th floor with a good view of the sea and the entertainment area. There was plenty of room for the electric scooter that I had hired for the week. There was even a fridge. Handy for the milk for my coffee. Do remember to take a travel kettle when you go to Spain. I have not found a hotel yet that supplies tea and coffee making facilities. The food was not too bad. I am a fussy eater, but never left the dinning roon hungry. I put on half a stone with the yummy desserts. The entertainment was varied but started a bit late, 10pm was normal. Everybody enjoyed themselves. The room was cleaned daily and the maid was very helpful, even came in with a bath mat for in the bath on the second day, she said it was so I would not slip in the bath. Bless her. We have been to Torremolinos for the last 3 years for our holidays, this is one of the best hotels we have stayed in. If the food improved, I would say that you could not fault it. Location is spot on. Just right for the beach, and just up the hill to the main shopping area. You could always get a taxi from just outside the hotel. I think that we might go back there next year. If I book again with alpharooms I will ring the hotel myself and confirm the booking before I go.

Great Hotel

18 May 2007
When we arrived at the Hotel the Reception Staff were extremely helpful. Iam Disabled and had requested a Room close to the Lift and on a low Floor with a Sea view. When they showed me to my Room it was exactley what I had asked for. All the Staff during our stay were very helpful. The Room was quite large compared with other Hotels in Spain that we have stayed at before. The Pool Area was very nice with lots of space, and plenty of Sunbeds available which is not normally the case. Unfortunately the cleanliness of the Pool Area could have been better. The Dustbins were not emptied for about 4 days and we also noticed quite a bit of litter around which was not cleared away on a Daily basis. The Restaurant was quite large but we found that for what ever reason the Air Conditiuoning was never turned on and this sometimes made it very uncomfortable. The Food was quite good but a bit repetetive and not always Hot. Overall we found this Hotel very good value and would go back again the main thing that I would say is that I don't think the Hotel rated a 4 star it was more a 3 star1 Nevewr thye less a great time was had there.

I travelled with my girls age 9 and 12 for the semana santa.  Arrived on Thursday, quick dip in the pool and straight to Malaga by train...easy journey, back to hotel by 845pm, refreshed then dinner at 9 pm.  The hotel has old style decor, we did not mind as long as it was clean.  Rooms and bathroom were good size, lovely view view of pools and seaside.  Had the advantage of indoor and outdoor pools. Indoor pool quite dated which needs brightening up, but it did have the showers, toilets and famkly changing rooms.  Filtration system rather very old and very noisy...quite scary for the younger children at first. An excellent base for all the places we've been...and other places we wished we were able to go.  Easy access to buses and trains, taxis are easy.  Staff friendly and very helpful.  Large and relaxing lounges, fun evening entertainment, outdoor bar, indoor bar, smoker's lounge.

It was a nice surprise to find the hotel was ideally located in a very good position and that the hotel itself was of a very good standard. The facilities were excellent, something for everyone. Entertainment average. All staff helpful and pleasant.  The variety and quality of the food was good with an exceptional amount of fruit which we enjoyed. The cleanliness of this hotel was first rate. We thoroughly enjoyed the 3 weeks we spent here, and I am sure in the near future we will be visiting this hotel again and would recommend it to the family.

The Hotel is a very tired 4 star, most of the staff are very friendly with one exception. We stayed for the christmas week and were greeted with the sound of drilling from boxing day onwards as they were working on the main pool outside, the noise was intolerable and our complaints fell on deaf ears. The hotel is also refurbishing many of the rooms on the lower floors. No doubt when the work is all completed it will be lovely again.

My wife and I ( 59 & 48)  have just returned from an excellent break in Torremolinos at the Sol Don Pablo Hotel. As it was November and we were unsure of the weather we wanted a base to visit the surrounding area - especially Malaga. This hotel is an ideal place. We have only good comments to make about this hotel from our out of season visit. It is tastefully decorated, very clean and the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The food could not be faulted either ( we went half board )  and as we are used to using these types of hotels in Spain,Majorca,Cyprus, Turkey etc. we had plenty to compare it with.  It is well situated with the beach just across the road  and the main shopping area not too far away. If you don`t like the walk up the hill you can use a lift. The railway station is in the town and easy to reach by foot and a return for both of us on the 25 minute journey to Malaga was just under 5 Euros. Malaga is well worth a visit. We also took the train in the opposite direction ( same journy time and fare) to Fuengirola. We also walked ( quite a walk) to the lovely marina at Benalmadena. On the one bad day of rain that we had we used the heated indoor pool at the hotel. Entertainment in the evening was typical of most Spanish hotels but as the hotel is joined by the Sol Don Pedro you can use their bar and entertainment too. We took a taxi to and from the airport and this was 15 euros each way. For us it was an excellent break at the Sol Don Pablo.

The hotel is excellently situated just off the beach in a complex of three hotels thah share all facilities.  There are 4 out door pools and an inner heated pool.  There are three restaurants although for your main meals the restaurant is allocated.  The rooms were large with double balconies, with excellent sea views.  The rooms were cleaned daily with linen and towels changed at guest request. The grounds are beautifully maintained with all public areas within the complex clean and well staffed.  The dining room was spacious, with staff helpful, friendly and with good English.  The food was varied, fresh and plentiful. Overall a great hotel that made the holiday.

Just had a three day break at the don pablo, half board. The hotel is in a great location with everything you need within easy walking distance. The rooms are large and very clean, we had a double which was nice, with a big airy bathroom, and a large balcony. There are fridges in the room (free) which is good for keeping drinks cool. The food was good with plenty of selection, especially at breakfast time. The hotel operates a no smoking policy in all public rooms but there is designated area for smokers and plenty of outside space next to the bars. The outside areas are lovely, nice gardens and loads of space round the pools.Would definitley recommend a stay anytime of year.15 euros by taxi from airport or about 1.40 each on the train with a 10 minute walk from station down the steps or in the lift, not a problem if you dont mind the walk.

Stayed at the Pablo the last week in August 2006 and had a really good time. The hotel is really clean, Maids clean your room every day & leave clean towels. We stayed half board and I can honestly say the food was really nice, Something for everyone. There are plenty of sun loungers around the pool areas although rather a lot were being reserved and not used until in the afternoon. We did notice however just before we left the hotel staff were putting signs up saying beds could not be reserved. Our daughter who is 11 enjoyed herself She particularly liked the entertainment on an evening especially the boy band called Westlive. Pools are very clean and tests are taken from the pools daily to ensure they are germ free. If you want a cooling drink on an afternoon out of the sun, Turn right outside beachside of hotel. Walk towards burger king and turn right, There are a few bars offering cheap drinks & snacks.
Overall thoroughly enjoyed our holiday, We will go back.

Thoroughly enjoyed our 2nd stay in the Sol Don Pablo. The food is very good and the hotel generally is very clean and run efficiently, but friendly. Entertainment provided at the hotel every evening during the high season.  The hotel complex is very well situated just a hop across the road to the beach and a short walk to get to San Miguel shopping area.Taxi from the airport approximately 15 euros. We liked the idea that you can use the facilities of the Don Marco and Don Pedro hotels who all share the same beautiful gardens and pools, leaving a choice of around 5 pools and 2 jacuzzis to bathe in.
Excellent holiday we shall be going again!!

Just had a week at this Hotel our room had a lovely view of the pool area and sea. We felt the food was good and a variable choice, not always as hot as we would have liked but it must be difficult when catering for so many eating at different times. Location was good for the sea front which has numerous beach bars etc and a promanade which takes you to Benalmadena makes an enjoyable walk.Entertainment for us was disappointing. On arrival we found the reception staff not very helpful or friendly but rest of staff fine, Hotel was clean but a little dated in places. Very clean hotel, staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
Right next to the beach and a short walk to the shopping area.
The only downside I found was the rooms could be noisy, the people above could be heard walking round and the man next door to us had to be the loudest snorer in the world.
As others have said, there wasn't much vegetarian option for the evening meal but there was plenty of salad and fruit to choose from. They did have an very nice veggy paella on our last day but could have done with a little more choice.

I would definately go back and would recommend the Don Pablo to friends.

Review of 'SOL DON PABLO'

11 May 2006
We have recently returned from a five night stay at the Sol Don Pablo Hotel and I have to say that is probably one of the best hotels we have stayed at, the check in was completed in minutes and we were asked if we had a preference for floor or which side of the hotel we wished to be accommodated on (all rooms have a side sea view), the receptionist recommended the Torremolinos main town side as that would have the sun for the best part of the day, we were in room 519 and were not disappointed, it was of a good size, immaculately clean with a good bright bathroom with bath and shower.  The beds were changed every day along with any towels which you placed on the floor of the bathroom.  The meals were buffet style with good selection at both breakfast and dinner, there was always a joint of meat or a large salmon being carved and served by the chef, unusually the dinner could be taken up to 2200hrs.  There is a Maitre de on the door who takes your room number and then gets a waiter to show you to your table, the staff were very efficient, polite and attentive.  The hotel is situated with three other Sol hotels to which you have access, we stayed with the Pablo as we felt that it had all that was needed, there were three outdoor pools to cater for all abilities and an indoor pool, there is also a whirlpool spa, there are loads of free sunbeds around the pool and in the quieter garden areas which are immaculately kept.  The hotel is 25 yards from the  beach which is cleaned and levelled each morning, there are plenty of local bars on the promenade and the walk to the centre of Torremolinos takes around 25 minutes, the train station takes about the same time and a return ticket to the end of the line at Fuengirola costs about £1.25. All in all an excellent break and somewhere we will definitely return to.

The hotel and amenities - rooms, pools, games, entertainment etc. were excellent but the food was poor. We complained to the manager on one occasion as we had a guest and had to pay for her to eat food that was cold, with no choice of meat dishes and only one of fish. If they got a new chef, reviewed the menu with more choice and a thought for vegetarians, invested in a method to keep the food hot, this would be a fantastic hotel! A good central position for exploration of the sol coast and cross the road for the beach. However, for the price we paid it was good value for money.

My wife and I stayed in the Don Pablo for a short break 11th.-15th June 2005. The hotel is centrally located in Torremolinas, just across the road from the beach and within reasonable walking distance of the town centre.
The public areas are beautifully decorated and spotless as are the rooms which are a good size with all the facilities expected, including a radio. The pool area and outdoor jacuzzi are excellent. The hotel even allowed us to use a courtesy room late in the day to shower and change before leaving. The entertainment at night was one hour between 10.00-11.00 as was OK
The only complaint we would have is the food fell below 4* standard on three of the four days we stayed. Both at breakfast and evening meal. I missed fresh melon and pineapple at breakfast, (replaced with tinned pineapple and pears) and the orange juice was either as weak as water or over concentrated. Most hot food was maintained on the cold side of hot, particularly the soup. There was a poor selection of vegetables to accompany limited meat and fish dishes. I would stay again but only on a bed & breakfast basis if available.

The public areas within the hotel are first class and the pool area with free sunbeds and jacuzzi was great. The beach is only a couple of minutes away. Our room was a good size with large balcony and maid service every day.I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Review of 'SOL DON PEDRO'

19 May 2005
Took me sometime to realise that this was three separate hotels (Don Pedro-Don Pablo-Don Marco) all joined together. Great for sharing facilities! Room was great with a double-sided corner balcony (sea and pool view); very clean with excellent maid service. Food was good with choices such as fresh grilled trout or salmon and fresh strawberries none of which I have ever had in Spain before. I thought checkout would be a problem with a 22.30 flight but NO, a word with reception produced a room (for our own use that evening at NO CHARGE) enabling us to have a bath and change before leaving. Yet again WELL DONE ALPHAROOMS!!

Review of 'SOL DON PABLO'

Although Torremolinos is not the prettiest resort, this is a great hotel for older guests. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious clean and comfortable, heated if you are out of season. There is a well maintained bowling green, card rooms, excellent  large lounges, entertainment every night with bar staff that are not pushy. If all this is too quiet for you , happy hour 5-6 gives 2 for one in large measures so you can float through the evening. The breakfast is wonderful ( except for the bacon which they continue to serve with 100 fat) fruit, all cereals ( even All bran) various breads, eggs ham, croissants, chocolate croissants, yogurts all vairety of coffes and teas and all you want. Watch all the other guests slippping their lunch into their open bags when the maitre de is looking the other way. The beach is long with a flat road and chairs for a break at regular intervals. There is even a lift up to the shops if you cant manage the steep walk up. The price, alpha rooms was excellent. I recieved a double room for a single price. There is even an indoor pool when its too cool. I joined my octagenarian parents for a few days of their two week holiday and it was easy to see why they enjoyed it.
