Great Hotel

09 August 2008
Stayed at hotel for 10 nights from the end of July until 8th August on a half board basis. Hotel approx 15 mins from Reus Airport, which costs about 28 Euros each way. Arrived at about 10:45pm, checked in straight away. Good selection of foods (I am a very fussy eater) always something to eat. Hotel room cleaned every day by maids. Two adults and Two children in room (children sharing a sofa bed), clean towels every day. Area around the pool got busy as our holiday continued. Air conditioning controlled in room a must as it was very hot. You must visit the Portaventura Park about 15 mins walk each way from the hotel, however make sure that you purchase your tickets in the UK for a better deal. All in all very pleased with hotel would go back without hesitation as it is close enough and far enough away from the main Salou run. Last drinks available from Hotel bar at 01:00am. However you can get some small drinks in the mini fridge within the hotel room.

relaxing week 18/6/08 - 25/06/08

28 June 2008
This is the first time that we have booked a holiday without the services o f a travel agent so we were slightly apprehensive. We had arranged the flights seperately but had booked the hotel and transfers through Alpharooms, we needn't have worried as everything went so smoothly. The transfers were a breeze with a driver waiting for us at the airport and hotel. The hotel Sol Costa Daurada was spotlessy clean and the choice of food was excellent, we didn't stay in the hotel for entertainment but there seemed plenty to do for children. The reception and bar staff were friendly and helpful but the waiting staff were a little grim! Everything is within walking distance and we used the nearby train station for a day in Barcelona. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel and will be booking through Alpharooms again - enough said!

Great!

26 June 2008
A great choice of hotel, and booking with Alpharooms we got an amazing deal! Hotel's in a great location for Port Aventura, the train to Barcelona and other places, and not to far to stagger home to from the clubs at night!!! Staff were always helpful and understanding. Was a little disappointed by the food, we stayed half board, and the hot buffet at dinner had a huge range but could be a bit on the salty side, however, there was always a couple of choices at the grill which were prepared right there, and were very good. Pool was nice, and plenty of sun loungers available. The entertainment at night seemed to be good to, although we tended to go out. All had a great time.

Stayed 9 to 13 June, very pleased with hotel. Clean and friendly, reasonably helpful staff. Location was great for Portaventura, 15 minutes walk and about 10 minutes walk to the beach. Nice choice of food at meal times. Would definately book again and use Alpharooms. Excellent time had by all.

Fantastic!!

18 June 2008
Just back from the Sol Costa Daurada for the 2nd time this year and it was even better than last time. The pool is lovely, the entertainment is great( my daughter didnt want to leave the hotel at all!) The choice of food for meals is excellent and i tried a bit of everything and it was all so yum. There was show cooking at the top of the restaraunt every night chicken, pork , beef, fish , pasta, salads, rolls, breads, huge selection of cakes & fruits way too much food to list! Hot dogs, chips , chicken nuggets, fish fingers , beans etc for fussy kids also. The hotel also runs a mini bus 4 times per day to the beach & also to portaventura but they are both only a 15 min walk away. The rooms were lovely & clean and the mini fridge is a bonus! The mini disco at 9pm is great fun and the show were so funny. The games throughout the day kept all amused from archery to rifle shooting, darts & water games. Mini club for little ones too. All in all had a fab time & would go back for sure!!

04 June 2008
Went from 27 May to 3 June and couldn't fault the holiday. Nice rooms, good choice of food, pool area clean, friendly staff and the entertainment was ok as well. There were 7 adults and 7 children (9 - 13) in our group and no-one got bored. Only thing is the games room is a bit basic and I've never played on a table tennis table like it... Would recommend the hotel and also Alpharooms, having used them before.

7 of us from Dublin stayed here last week in April for 3 nights. Had a great time, rooms were lovely & clean, food was lovely (loads of choice). We are heading back in June for a week and cant wait! There is a free bus to the beach & theme park although the walk is only 15mins. Pool area lovely, kids club and tiny playground too. Had a great time overall!

Great holiday

18 April 2008
Arrived on Thursday 10th April 2008. Hotel was clean and we all found the staff friendly. Portaventura was a short direct walk about 15 minutes, there is a mini train and mini bus that go there. The rooms were adequate and we overlooked the pool on the 4th floor. The pool was clean and there are plenty of sun loungers for all to enjoy. The food was very nice and plentiful and accomodated the various tastes in the family. We found the water in the hotel expensive at 1.80, in the shops 0.57. Entertainment was not fantastic and not much for the teenagers. Games room very basic, pool tables were 2 euros, indoor swimming pool was cold and so was the jacuzzi, you need to buy a swimming hat to use the indoors pool. Would stay in this hotel again, and would recommend it. Buy tickets to theme park before you go, it works out much cheaper.

brilliant

09 April 2008
Most exellent, we arrived late and the reception was brilliant, speaking perfect english, she first of all welcomed us then appologised, that we had missed the evening meal, so credited us with a free lunch on any day we chose . All the food was terrific and we never ate out once, saving loads of cash. The rroom was impeccable, maid service every day, also free gym and jaccuzzi. All the staff were extremeley polite and courteous. We had the room we that we had elected for and there was a free shuttle bus to the beach and town centre. On the whole a highly pleasant stay, we would highly recomend the sol costa dourada to the discerning traveller.hazel &denny rowe

Perfect base for Port Aventura

05 April 2008
Stayed for 2 nights as a base for Port Aventura. Very impressed, hotel was immaculately clean, staff friendly, reception staff spoke perfect English. Food as good as you would expect in Spain, massive choice, especially for breakfast. Free bus to Port Aventura and back (although we walked it in less than 10 minutes!). Beautiful outdoor pool and fun, if basic, evening entertainment. Be aware though that to use the indoor pool you have to purchase and wear the most unattractive swimming cap ever so my appearance conscious daughter and I gave it a miss!!! All in all would highly reccomend, especially as the perfect base for Port Aventura without the price of the on site hotels.

Port Aventura Fantastic Choice

03 April 2008
You really would be hard pushed to top this hotel if you need a short break in the sun. My second time here and the food was excellent and the rooms lovely and clean. I did have the whistling window from the strong winds but its hard to complain for the cost. I am sure we will use again.

Excellent value for money

11 March 2008
Stayed here overnight on our way to southern Spain by car and also for a night on our return journey. Excellent value for money at approx £17 pppn half board. Used underground parking at 6 euros, but probably not necessary at this time of year as plenty of street parking was available. Hotel was very quiet (as entertainment seems to be only weekends in winter) with dozens of available tables at meal times. The selection & quality of food at both breakfast & dinner was excellent, although the "English" breakfast items were generally cold. On our second visit we found a microwave hiding away near the fresh food prep area, so this solved our problem. Rioja wine at <10 euros was good value (saw an identical bottle in supermarket for 4e+) We could hear the trains noted in other reviews during night, but not a serious problem. Also had rattling window, due to howling North winds but jammed my comb in it to shut it up! Definitely worth the money and would use again as a stop off venue, but a bit out of town for longer stays for folk without transport.

Sol Costa Dorada everytime

01 March 2008
I have just come back from Salou and stayed in the Sol Costa Dorada, I stayed here in February 2006 and would not stay anywhere else in Salou. It is perfect for a relaxing break at this time of year. Value for money, clean, the sheets and towels changed everyday, the staff are very friendly, the indoor pool is small and very warm, ideal for young kids. we stayed full board because there is not much open in salou at this time and the food is a good mixture, breakfast is great, lunch and dinner vary each day and with such a good choice, you have to find something to eat. I think this hotel is great value for money and having spoken to other people who have stayed in salou at this time and the horror stories of dirty rooms, nowhere to eat etc. I would not stay anywhere else. The hotel is a short walk away from the train station, great for trips to tarragona or barcelona or to the markets in the various towns. I read some of the other reviews and I cannot fault this hotel on either of the occassions I have stayed there.

Value for money

13 February 2008
We stayed here for 3 nights half-board from the 7th February. The hotel was clean and there was a very good selection of food. You must buy your own drinks in the restaurant at dinner but considering the price we paid (£102 for the two of us) we thought that this was quite reasonable. The room and balcony were a fair size, however the bed was very uncomfortable with a huge dip in the mattress so we both suffered from back ache as a result! The hotel is in a good location, just a 10 minute walk in to town, although being off-season there wasn't much open. The train station (Port Aventura) is just a 5 minute walk from the hotel, where you can catch a train to Barcelona. The journey takes about 1 hour 20 minutes and costs about €11 for a return ticket. You must change trains in you require the airport though. We found the staff to be pleasant and helpful with directions. All in all, we enjoyed our stay but i would definately rate this hotel as a 3 star, not a four.

Hotel nice, rooms bit small and very basic- more a 3* than 4*. Reception staff not very friendly and bar staff didnt speak much english- even the basics. Breakfast was ok but would have been better if it was hotter! Evening meal wasnt good- mainly chips or spanish food. Was good value for money but wouldnt rate as a 4*

Great value for money

06 January 2008
We stayed here for 4 nights from 1 Jan 08 to visit Port Aventura. Its location is great, a 10 minute walk to the park - on the way back get the free shuttle to the El Paso (half way home) and walk the rest. Its very quiet out of season with no entertainment but that was fine by us. The food was good, plenty of choice although not always that hot. Breakfast was very good and although they are supposed to finish at 10am we sat there til 10.45 and there was still food out and the staff never rushed you. The rooms are more than adequate and for a winter break to the theme park I dont think you can do better. Salou was a good 10/15 minute walk and was very quiet - again suited us. The staff were lovely, letting us use their office PC to check in online for our flights home as you can't print from the internet cafe in reception. Would stay there again for a short break but not a main holiday as it is a bit far out of town for us.

Good value if you are a heavy sleeper

09 November 2007
Great price and a very nice hotel, food is more than adequate. The only downside is the noise from the band downstairs if you are on the first floor in rooms 139 - 168 expect a din up to the early hours. After the band has finished you will be then subject to the scraping of moving furniture for another half an hour. But that really is the only downside so as long as you are not in the rooms mentioned above I would not hesitate to recommend the hotel.

Good value and well placed for Port Aventura

31 October 2007
My husband and I stayed here for a week (23/10/07 - 30/10/07). At a piffling £17 pppn we decided that even if we only used it as a b&b it was still a bargain as a base for Port Aventura. Everything was very clean and there was plenty of choice at breakfast and dinner (we were half board). There were ocassional bum meals where food was bland or cold but being a buffet style service, you could go back for a second bite at the cherry and try something else. Complaints: Sometimes you had to wait quite a while for cutlery to appear in the restaurant (or improvise). The walls in the bedroom were very thin which can make sleep difficult if neighbours decide to get in at 2am, get 'romantic' then run a shower for 30mins and finally rearrange the furniture before dropping off. The windows make creepy tapping noises and loud whistling in a strong wind (not likely a problem in the height of summer). Building work was going on across the train tracks so in future may be noisier with new roads being laid. Positives: 15-20 minutes walk, mostly on the flat to Port Aventura. We managed to get a 7-day pass for £38 each and spent 3 fun-filled days there. Doughnuts for breakfast!! Bar prices are more than reasonable for a hotel. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Would we stay again? Most definitely. Excellent value for money, it's up to you to make of it what you can.

Good Value but Bland

27 October 2007
I was enticed by the 4-Star moniker for a less-than-3-star price and, on this basis, the hotel offered great value for money. This is a new, clean, hotel on the fringe of Salou. It's a 15-minute comfortable, flat stroll from either the beach or Port Aventura and less than ten from the train station. The train-line, however, runs alongside the hotel and the lack of double-glazing will make the middle-of-the-night freight trains wake you up if you are on that side of the block. If you can, go for rooms ending 01-19 (they overlook the pool and have the sun on their balconies all day). Breakfast was standard mass-buffet fare of reasonable quality (albeit with the usual yucky Spanish milk). We ate out every night so didn't sample the dinner. There was no need for a car, but car hire is very cheap and parking is free outside the hotel. The only significant drawback was that the third bed was a narrow fold-out in a twin room, so contrary to some other reviews, I felt the room was a bit small. The indoor and outdoor pools are both excellent, but the other facilities (games, entertainment, spa, gym) are a bit lame and not up to 4-star standard. The usual-for-Spain lack of a kettle and drinks in the room was irksome for a hotel where the only place to get a drink was the (busy) bar.

22 October 2007
Good hotel, facilities were fine and was within easy walking distance of town and Port Aventura. Staff friendly, food fine, enterteinments basic but ok. On downside gym is very basic and could have been more play area for childrenbit overall great value for money.

Review of 'Sol Costa Daurada'

14 October 2007
Went as a family group of 10, ages from 16-65, and I must say each and everyone of us found this hotel excellent. The double rooms were larger than the twin rooms, and also had a double sofa bed. We also found a good selection of food for breakfast and dinner. The entertainment for the little ones seemed very good for what we seen of it. This was our second time to Salou and would recommend this hotel.... also for the best family night out was the Robin Hood pub.... Brilliant !!!

Stayed at this hotel c18 mths ago, was pleased, so booked again. Disappointed this time! Food was not as good as expected - plenty of choice with meat & fish both hot & cold but unless you're a salad lover there were precious few vegetables. At breakfast the beverage machines (hot & cold) were invariably empty with seemingly lttle intention from the staff to fill them. At all meal times cutlery was at a premium, there just didn't seem to be enough of it. The rooms and public areas were all as you would expect from a 4* hotel, but would I go back. No, standards have slipped - I'd now rate it no more than a good 3* hotel.

Sol Costa Daurada

04 August 2007
We have recently stayed at this hotel and I really recommend it. The Mini Disco at 9pm each evening was brilliant and allowed us to relax while our daughter danced away for an hour. The food was very good and there was a wide variety. There is a free bus to the beach or theme park, although you could walk to both within 15 minutes. The Aquapolis water park is down the road in Tarragona, it is very good and costs about 20 euro. The room was basic but it had a tv and fridge which you didn't pay extra for. The only minus point was that our room faced onto the road and although it wasn't noisy the sun disappeared from the balcony about 2pm each day. The rooms facing the pool had sunshine into early evening - something to consider when booking. We would definitely go back to this hotel.

30 June 2007
We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights commening 25th June. Hotel was lovely and clean, pool area very nice. The food was ok but could do with more english options. I have a 4 year old who ate practically nothing during the stay. Close to portaventura theme park with a courtesy bus provided by the hotel. The only fault with the hotel, there was definite communication problems with the staff due to the fact that they spoke little or no English. The entertainment was ok, but very frustrating when there is a kareoke night with most of it being in Spanish. We missed the English side of the entertainment and nothing for kids in the evening. I would stay there again if visiting the theme park as great value for money although I would probably be less keen on dining there.

Very good, as usual.

08 June 2007
We just had a week back at the Sol Costa Daurada. As usual the hotel was excellent value for money. No downsides at all. A family-oriented hotel, mercifully bereft of some of the more boisterous clientele you often find in Salou and ideally situated in a quiet part of town, yet still just a short walk from the beach and other amenities. Will continue to go back until anything changes for the worse.

14 May 2007
Hotel was fantastic; although we have been before, still surprised at how great everything was: food, staff, pool, cleanliness. Was there with just my 15year old daughter - only short walk to town or Portaventura so nothing for her to complain about! Overall, for less than £15 pppn, inc all food an absolute bargain. Would go back tomorrow for 2 weeks if we had the chance. Well done alpharooms again!

We had four days and three nights at this hotel which is choose from the internet to be close to the Port Aventura Park which is about 10mins walk the children who are 8 and 5 did not complain about the walk and the town and beach was a 15 min walk. We felf the hotel was ideally situation as it was out of town did not have another hotel overlooking it and therefore the pool had the sun all day. It lacked some atmosphere that you tend to lose in these big hotels, the breakfast choice was great and the evening meal choice was adequate, if we had stayed longer we would had eaten. Rooms were fine. Would go back and stay again.

Review of 'Sol Costa Daurada'

13 April 2007
This hotel was clean and had lovely spacious rooms.
I felt that it was located quite far from the beach and shops - at least a 15 minute walk ( I was pregnant at the time). There was nothing exciting about the food - just the usual really but still plenty of it. There is a theme park nearby - good for the children.

THe hotel was very busy so can't be that bad - mixture of young and mature people spanish and foreigners.

We did not use the pools but they looked pretty good with a bar and food place outside.
Staff were good.

4 out of 5 but one Health and Safety issue.  See below.

Hotel Very Clean.
Food very good (almost too much choice.)
Staff in reception and restaurant very efficient and friendly.
Very close to Port Aventura and 10 minute walk to beach and supermarket.
Indoor pool quite small so 12 year old not interested.
'Mini Club' very useful for ages 4 - 8 ish. Mini Club staff very friendly and helpful and good with the kids.
Playground was very small and very out of the way.
There were some activities for ages 8 upwards but probably could do with a bit more.
Overall very good and would go there again.

However there was one Health & Safety issue.  Builders had left a pickaxe and bricks in the playground over the weekend and children thought the 'bricks' were for playing with!.
Very dangerous for toddlers.  Playground was not cordened off!!!.  Also noticed that an access door to the heating system was left open and a young child could easily try to investigate and fall in.

Stayed at the Sol Costa Daurada for 9 days at the end of March beginning of April 2007, hotel itselfs was nice, variety of food was good.  It was still early in the year so there wasn't much entertainment on, but thank goodness for the indoor pool as the one outside, which looks lovely was freezing. Only complaint was that a bar tender (Tonin) tried on a few occassions to overcharge, so be wary.  All in all I would use this hotel again!

29 March 2007
Really nice hotel. Clean and spacious with friendly, helpful staff. The room we stayed in was clean & well laid out. The bathroom was excellent, with a very powerful, hot shower. The balcony overlooked a main road & the train line but wasn't noisy at all. We didn't use the indoor pool or spa facilities but these looked as good as the rest of the place. The food is superb. Well cooked & well presented in a nicely laid out buffet. The hotel seems to cater for a lot of conferences & business people & the facilites reflect this. Also when we stayed there were a lot of Spanish people there, which is always a good sign. The only small drawback is that it's about a 15 minute walk into town, however you can actually walk to Port Aventura from the hotel, so that's in it's favour. Don't know what this would be like in the summer for families, as we went at the end of March (weather was freezing but that's not the hotel's fault!) & the disco/bar was still being fitted out, as were a lot of other places in town - the season in Salou doesn't really get going properly until after Easter. Plenty of parking out front as well as an underground car park. One thing to point out is that you cannot smoke in any of the rooms or bars, the hotel is completely non-smoking, except for outdoor areas. Would definitely stay here again.

This is a lovely hotel. Its situated in a nice area close to the beach and shops. It has an outdoor pool and bar, and a small indoor pool and jacuzzi's. Purchase of a swim cap is essential at a cost of 2 Euro. The entertainment is only on of a weekend however, there is happy hour in the bar from 5 till 6 with 2 for 1 drinks, and a great Irish bar called Danny Boys just down the road. The choice of food at this hotel is great, with a large selection salads and hot food. All in all I would highly recommend this hotel the service and location was great, it was right by Port Adventura with a free bus service there. We will certainly book again.

The rooms are of a high standard, the drinks at the bar are quite reasonable, the food if fine, we go with the flow and are happy with whats on offer.  A good bottle of red wine with our meal cost 8 euro, which again is good for a restaurant. We would stay here again.

We went in March and Hotel was quiet. Food wasn't great, not very warm. Only enjoyed the breakfast. Not many facilites in the hotel, reception staff unhelpful and a little rude. Waiting staff very pleasant and helpful. There was a fridge in the room which was great. Satalitte tv advertised but only english channel is sky news, when we asked if we could request a movive channel we were abruptly told no! All in all the hotel was clean and not unpleasant to stay in but would not choose to stay again as found it a little boring.
