Review of 'Slokas Ok'

We were with a group of 4 x couples visiting Riga,,,,The hotel Slokas OK was well worth the budget price we paid,,, as we pulled up at the hotel the sign says OK hotel missing the Slokas part of the name and we thought we had the wrong Hotel but it was the right one,,,the Taxi from the airport for the eight of us was only 7 x Lats,, The rooms were spacious, clean, and comfortable,, We took our own kettle, tea bags & coffee as they are not included. The staff are freindly & spoke english but for some unkown reason they wont let you wear a coat in the bar area, Taxis and trams are plentiful and the walking routes into town take about 20 / 25 minutes. Use the RED cabs as they are half price of the others. Would we stay at the hotel again,,, Yes,,, well recommended,,,

Our room was clean and spacious. Breakfast was good and the service was acceptable. i think it was value for money, just what we needed. Staff were helpful. It is easy enough to get a tram into town and not too far to the airport. No shampoo provided, just some thin soap dipenser on the wall. No tea or coffee in the room either but we did not spend any time in the room so it didn't matter.

After initially being unable to find the Slokas OK due to some dodgy street signs we were pleasantly surprised by the modern, well layed out reception.Staff were efficient and after the usual passport check it was off to our room...... The room was of good quality clean and tidy and had a TV and mini-bar but no tea/coffee provided (not that it matters to me but my partner likes her tea).Electrical power for the room is via a card slot inside the door......the card is attached to the room key so you can't lock the door easily as you have to remove card from slot plunging you into darkness....however this is a minor gripe. Breakfast was provided on the sixth floor of the hotel and a lift is available. The breakfast was of good quality and included both hot and cold options.......... The hotel does have a bar but we were never in from the city in time to sample this although it looked very clean and comfortable. All in all an excellent hotel within easy reach of the city centre via efficient bus, tram and trolleybus services and at an excellent price........

The Hotel 'Slokas Ok'is well named as the 'OK'pretty well sums up the overall impression of our stay there. The rooms are spacious enough and the beds comfortable, breakfast is a hot buffet with ample variety of cereals etc.( the coffee is very good).Situated about 3Kms from the Old Town is not a problem as an excellent tram service runs very regularly past the hotel. The restaurant/bar was closed during the weekend of our stay which meant we sampled the local bar across the road which serves food and drinks at very reasonable prices. Overall the price we paid through Alpha Rooms was good value for money.

I can only add to the good comments above. An excellent value hotel. Decent sized rooms, good facilities, staff all spoke good English except the manager - more about him later! The trams are great - 0.20Lats each way is a bargain. We never waited more than 3 minutes for one. Taxis are a lottery. My advice would be to agree a price before you get in - a trip from the Old Town to the hotel should not cost you more than 5 Lats, whatever the time of day or night. The Red Cabs seemed the least likely to rip you off. A small word of warning if you hope to take someone back to the hotel with you - don't let the manager see you! He got a right gob on. And when I went down to reception without my shoes on I thought he was going to explode! But the receptionist thought it was hilarious and just told me to ignore him. All-in-all, I'd thoroughly recommend both Riga and the Slokas Ok Hotel. Enjoy your trip!

If you dont mind travelling to and from Old Riga/New town this hotel is great. Tram 4/5 stop outside and run every 5mins in the day an every 1/2 hr after midnight untill you finish clubbing!!!.20lts. Spacious rooms, plenty breakfast, one downfall no tea making facilities in rooms. Book your own taxi from hotel, you need the RED ones freephone 800 13 13. They only charge 5.00lts

We are going back! The airport transfer cost 0.20L (about 20p) and dropped us off a few stops away from tram no 4/5 which takes you to the hotel aboput 10mins and cost 0.20L. The hotel staff were extremely welcoming and spoke quite good English, the food was great with an abundance of coffee or tea, and the buffet breakfast also had a good choice. The rooms were spacious, well furnished and had a cosy feel. For smokers in each lobby on each floor was a sofa where you were welcome to sit without inflicting others. GREAT VALUE

OK Slokas represents extremely good value for money. It is conveniently situated about 5 minutes by tram (50m. from hotel door) from the centre of Riga. The hotel is scrupulously clean throughout. Our non-smoking room on 5th floor was spacious, adequately furnished, comfortable and quiet. It was cleaned and towels were changed daily. Complimentary breakfast buffet was available from 07.00 -10.30 on 6th floor and provided a good choice of well presented hot and cold food and drinks. There was always plenty of food. As there were so many varied eateries in Riga, we did not dine at the Hotel. Drinks from the bar, however, were very reasonably priced. The staff we met were polite and very helpful despite some of them speaking little English. OK Slokas offers clean, convenient, comfortable accommodation which is superb value especially when booked at Alpharoom rates!
BEWARE though. Avoid taxis especially to the airport booked by the hotel! RIGA ROGUES OVERCHARGE!! When we return, we will book one ourselves - Red Cabs 8001313 or use Bus 22 from just around the corner.

Very pleasant hotel, quietly situated on the other side of the Daugava river from the Old City. Tram routes 4 and 5 provide an excellent service into Riga centre, taking some 5/6 minutes, and costing 0,20 Lats (20 pence).
Rooms are a reasonable size, but not air-conditioned. The buffet breakfast is pretty good, although items tend to run out at busy times.
One word of warning - beware of getting the hotel to arrange a taxi back to the airport - there seems to be a scam going on, which more than doubles the price. Presumably the hotel is in league with one or more particular taxi companies. Inbound cost 4.62 Lats (1 Lat = £1), the return was an extortionate 12 Lats!!!
That apart, we recommend this hotel.
