Great Spa Break
18 July 2008
I have stayed at this hotel many times and it is one of the best spas ever. Large swimming pool, vitality pool, sauna and steam room and the therapies on offer are numerous. The views from the large sauna over the water are beautiful. Have stayed with my husband and also with a group of girls. The breakfast is vast but prefer to taxi into Dundrum for evening meals.A great escape with breat-taking views

We had proof of booking a double + a single room in writing but reception said that there was only 1 room booked which caused a lot of confusion on arrival. Because there are always a lot of functions going on it is hard to find a quiet area to sit which ,as we are all over 80 we would have liked! The main dining room can be a bit hit or miss.

Great Hotel
21 February 2008
What a gem on the coast. The rooms overlooking the beach were fantastic. The decor is of a high standard and the SPA adds an extra luxury. It was romantic to sit in the Jacuzzi watching the sun set over the Mourne mountains. Would certainly recommend to stay here when staying in N Ireland. What a lovely country this is!!!!!!

Excellent hotel, great accomodation and location/view. Spa is great. However, hotel and stay was only let down by such heat in the room at night - neither of us didnt sleep well at all due to heating being on all night and unable to turn off.

Winter Wedding
09 December 2007
Beautiful hotel. My partner and I stayed here as part of my friend's wedding on 7th Dec 2007. The hotel surroundings are outstanding as it right on the coast with spectacular views of the sea. The building itself is magnificant and the accommodation excellent with spacious bathroom (incl separate power shower) with a fantastic supply of Molton Brown toiletries. The bedroom consisted of a fabulous extremely comfortable king size bed, spacious wardrobe hanging space and drawers and a large flat screen TV with digital freeview. In room facilites include: tea & coffee making facilities (with 1 pack of biscuits!), hairdryer, ironing board & iron and not forgetting the contemporary decor. The staff were friendly and helpful. We didn't have time to visit the spa as we were well entertained with the wedding party. We had a buffet meal which was outstanding and huge portion sizes. The only draw back is the expense of drinks from the bar - a fanta orange cost £2.30, a round of 1 white wine spritzer, 1 G&T, 1 Rose wine cost £16.80! The full Irish breakfast the following day was also great. Having recently stayed at it's sister 5* hotel - the Culloden in Belfast - I would most certainly recommend the Slieve Donard over it as it is a much more beautiful hotel with equally high standards for about half the price. Excellent.

We stayed at this hotel for a friends wedding. The hotel was beautiful and grand from the outside with gorgeous views of the Irish Sea. I first thing I noticed in the reception was the smell of turf burning from an open fire, which was very welcoming, as were the staff. The room was spacious, modern and very comfortable. The food at the wedding was absolutely beautiful, as was the breakfast the next morning. Well worth the visit!

We stayed at the hotel on the 3rd March, the sun was shining and the view from the hotel was simply breathtaking. We found the staff very attentive and enjoyed a lovely evening meal in their restaurant and the choices available in the morning for breakfast covered everything you could want. I would highly recommend staying at this hotel either for a romantic weekend or short break.

The booking itself was fairly straight forward although they never grasped my name is graham thomas and not thomas graham - its the small details that count. The hotel itself is set in a fantastic location and is stunning in appearance. It has obviously benefitted massively from the recent refit and the sap looked incredible from the outside - guess who forgot his swimming shorts. The rooms were nicely finished although fellow guests complained of a drain smell that came from the central floor plug hole in the bathroom and everyone I spoke said luke warm showers was the best they could manage. We did not experience the bad smell but never had a warm shower on three different days. Some of the staff could have been a little more helpful at times but the stay all in all warrants its 4 star rating! even though you only get one pack of biscuits with your tea and coffee in a double room, the wife said the molton brown accessories more than made up for it!!

Good hotel - rooms are spacious and comfortable, and very well fitted. Excellent large flat screen TVs on the wall of bedroom and big bathroom. The leisure facilities have been superbly kitted out - the swimming pool/jacuzzi/sauna etc are up there with the best I have seen, and the changing facilities are first class. Restaurant a bit disappointing in terms of value for money - £35 per head for Saturday night buffet a bit extreme. If you are absolutely starving, you will like it - and the food is good for a buffet, but if you want an intimate relaxed dinner, probably go into the town itself and skip the hotel. Other than that, highly recommended for a short break.

Great place for a short break. Our stay in Slieve Donard was one of the best short breaks we had in our life. Perfect place to enjoy the spa & luxuries of the hotel in a homely atmosphere. Thanks to the customer friendly staff & management of this hotel & spa.

What a wonderful place for a luxurious break. Beautiful scenery with the mountains and hill walking on one side, and stretches of beach on the other. Let no one say that Northern Ireland is not a wonderful place for a holiday with a setting like this hotel. From the moment you step inside you are aware that this is an oasis of luxury. The staff are courteous and helpful. The spa facilities facing out over the sea are modern and that little bit different from other hotels. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the food excellent. Altogether cannot wait until I get another chance to return.

We had a basic internet room that was absolutely first class, The furniture & decor were first rate - spacious room with comfortable beds, quite a large bathroom, hairdrier, iron & ironing board, table with two wing chairs & a flat screen T.V. If this was a basic room, I would love to see the others!! The Leisure Centre & Spa were luxurious & the food - well I just can't decribe it - just wonderful & what a choice. The staff were friendly & efficient. Even though the hotel was fully booked, with a wedding & another function to be catered for, the place was spotless. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone.

Where the mountains of Mourne run down to the Sea The Slieve Donard in Newcastle N.I. was a luxury not to be missed and that was before the new Health Spa is even opened (Sept 20th) Location location location Pleasant service ,good food and N Irish charm. Charlie Chaplin stayed there in the 1920s and he was no fool.I will be returning in the near future to dip my toe in the New pool etc.Go on try it out, ideal for a romantic break as well as having a championship Golf course within spitting distance. What more does a man want?

We were there for a wedding on Friday 30th of June - beautiful setting right on the beach with stunning views of the Mourne Mountains. Slightly disappointed in the room - really hot with no air conditioning and right next to the lift and double doors which banged consistenty until the early hours of the morning - this coupled with the extensive renovation work which started at 07.45 in the morning wasn't the best recipe for a peaceful nights sleep - the check out staff didn't really seem to car either !! Great food though both at dinner and breakfast- can't say it constitiutes a 4 star though - the setting is what sets it apart from the rest !!
