What our customers say
The Salmakis hotel is located in a bay between Bodrum and Gumbet. Both resorts are within walking distance, although anyone with mobility problems will find the steep hill that the Salmakis sits on hard to climb.
There are four hotels in this rather isolated bay: the Azka (5 star), the Charm, the Mavi and, of course, the Salmakis. The last three hotels are four star. They all share a private beach which is well tended and the surrounding area is green and nicely landscaped.
A short walk along the beach, there is a water taxi which costs roughly £1 per person per trip. The water taxis are very regular and take you into the centre of the Bodrum harbour. At the top of the hill on which the resort sits there is a domus stop. These local buses are very cheap and also come regularly. A taxi to or from Gumbet to the hotel is also very cheap as is a taxi from Bodrum to the Salmakis.
The hotel itself seems very new - in fact, they seem to be adding new parts to the building each year (not that there was any building work going on while I was there).
The rooms are clean but, depending on the type of room booked, the size and furnishings vary considerably. We were lucky enough to be in a club room which was carpeted and had a large double bed and a balcony with an unobstructed view out to the sea. It is worth paying extra and requesting a sea view and a high, sunny balcony to end up in one of the club rooms.
The other rooms were tiled and rather basic. In most cases, they did not have terraces or balconies.
It must be said that there are a lot of stairs in this hotel. It is a multi-level affair as are most of the resorts here so if you're coming to Bodrum, you will probably do a fair bit of walking up and down hills.
The first level, which is at beach level, has the beach bar and grill where full boarders have lunch. The snack bar was usually quite quiet but the service was always deathly slow. In fact, the full board guests would wait about twice as long for their meal as the "paying" customers.
On the second level, there is a pool bar (and, of course, the pool itself). This is where the live entertainment took place.
The third level is substantially higher and this is where the restaurant is.&
