Weekend Break

31 March 2008
The Russell is a lovely hotel. A beautiful building with modern facilities. It is ideally located for Kings Cross and Euston, and is next to the Russell Square Tube station and on the main bus routes around the city. Staff are very friendly and provide a good service. Excellent value for money. I would highly recommend it.

Russell Hotel

The Russell Hotel is a beautiful hotel blending the old with the new the exterior has been renovated to its yesteryears; it was built in 1898 and is one of the finest original four star Victorian hotels in London, the interior blends the original features with the facilities you would expect from a 4 star hotel today. Breakfast the only meal I had included in my booking was first class from full English to a wide verity of other options to suite all tastes. I had a standard twin room with interior view but it was still very airy and had plenty of natural light, with air con and heating, a well appointed bathroom with complementary toiletries and towels replaced daily as required. The room was kept spotless Refrigerator, iron and ironing board, hairdryer and tea and coffee making facilities The staff was very friendly, helpful and efficient The location of this hotel is very convenient, situated on the eastern side of Russell Square a relative quite area in the heart of London with a beautiful small park on the doorstep the British museum just on the other side of the square and lots of Restaurants pubs, news agents and shops within 5 to 10 min walk. Getting around could not be simpler walking, bus, train or taxi. A ten min walk will take you to Oxford Street and from there to Piccadilly Circus or Trafalgar Square in under 45 min. Russell Square Tube station is a 3 min walk and connects with all locations. Buses 188 and 7 also serve the square 2 min walk No 188 will take you to Greenwich and No 7 all through Oxford Street up to Marble Arch then Paddington and East Acton stations and back to Russell Square when you are ready. Again you can combine buses to take you to other destinations. For all the above I would highly recommend and will return myself in the future

The hotel was excellent, staff very friendly and helpful. Location ideal for tourists, very close to tube station. One point to note - very expensive to drink in the Hotel bar.

Christmas shopping break

03 December 2007
I had stayed at The Russell 5 years ago with my sister and decided it would be an ideal choice with my new partner for a weekend Christmas shopping trip. Its locality is perfect for both tube and foot to visit the many shops and sites that London has to offer. We took up on the offer of an upgrade and were delighted with our room, On the sunday we took the London bus tour (which picks up outside the hotel) and walked back to the hotel that evening which was acheviable in 20 minutes. All in All a lovely hotel with friendly staff. We will definately return and would recommend it highly.

I found the staff at the hotel to be very accommodating when we arrived. They were obviously busy with a conference, yet they still took the time to welcome me with a smile and sort me out with the room that I had pre-booked. I had a 10 minute wait for the room and was asked if I would like a seat in the lobby where I was offered tea/coffee and a newspaper whilst I waited. The room was very modern with a clean look, modern bathrooms and LCD TV's to name but a few of the facilities available. Our room had impressive views from the 7th floor over the city. Breakfast was good, we ordered both to the room and ate in the restaurant. Service was prompt and the breakfast a good standard on both days. Bar prices were average for a hotel in London, although we found a nice pub behind the hotel with lovely food and reasonable prices. Tesco and Pret a manger were also within 1 mins walk. The tube was 1-2 mins walk away (I would not recommend walking up the 175 steps though - take the lift). Ideally located for all the main attractions and the tube was not necessary if you are keen on walking as Leicester Square was only a 20 min walk away.

Good sized room with efficient air conditioning and an excellent bathroom. Ideally located for theatres - an easy walk back after the show - and the breakfast really set us up for the day, including some of the best scrambled eggs we've tasted! Efficient and helpful staff, especially the young night concierge.

Review of 'RUSSELL'

The Russell Hotel is a large Edwardian Hotel 200 yards from Russell Square tube station.  Check in was easy with my Alpha Rooms reservation.  My standard room was on the third floor on the inner courtyard.  It was comfortably furnished.  Refigerator, iron and ironing board, hairdryer and tea and coffee making facilities, but no biscuits!.  The bathroom was large and well appointed, towels are changed every day.  The air conditioning was efficient and responded to manual control.

Dinner was in the large, almost caverous dining room, few guests and rather gloomy.  Food is eatable but, I thought, rather expensive, 3 courses a la carte  £57.  It is redeemed by extremely obliging staff.

Breakfast is taken in the dining room but at 8.45 there was a queue to be seated.  Breakfast in the room incurs a £10 charge. Rather excessive, I thought, but it was hot and ample.

After theatre dinner in ones room £20 of steak, hand cut chips and salad took 20 minutes to arrive, excellent.

The bar is comfortable and again staffed by obliging and friendly staff.

An excellent venue for a weekend.

Excellent location for shopping/theatre - you can walk to Covent Garden with ease. Breakfast very good with lots of choice and attentive staff. Room good, although overly hot when we first arrived and difficult to cool down. Cleanliness and order very good, with super hot and powerful shower. Fantastic old building. I would recommend and return to this hotel.

great hotel

19 January 2007
We had a great time. We were going to the theatre so it made a good base. Close to the tube but also 2 car parks very close by at only £17 per day & an easy drive from the M1. The hotel staff were friendly and the rooms clean & comfortable. Nice bright bathroom with a good shower. Breakfast was nice with a good variety to choose from. The building is stunning & I would happily return to the Russell Hotel.

the hotel is a grand victorian building with an ornate marble reception and hallway, the staff are pleasant and polite. If you get the chance to upgrade to the superior room once you are there do it, the bath was fab ! you will be shocked how much you save by booking on aplha rooms..... get the continental breakfast option you will not be disapointed and once you are seated for breakfast you have the opportunity to upgrade to the full english if you choose to, but there is so much choice and quality that you probably wont want to.the hotel is central to the theatre district and just around the corner from the tube so anywhere is not far to get to. you will enjoy this hotel. but just to be a bit picky if you look closely enough there are chipped skirting boards and window sills and the net curtains are filthy but thats probably because its right on the square and the traffic is passing all day and night, but the inside of the hotel is surprisingly quiet, all in all a good value for money stay for central london.
