Rural Finca Salamanca

We enjoyed out stay at Finca Salamanca and would recommend it as an attractive experience of rural Tenerife.  It is  centrally located in the north east of the island within reasonable striking distance of the Los Rodeos airport - as long as you don't get lost - we did!
The hotel is set in spacious gardens which are well maintained though we could have done without the profusion of garden gnomes.  The rooms are simple, spacious and quite well appointed.  It is worth booking a superior double.  While there is an all day bar service by the pool the hotel does not have a bar per se - thus it tends to lack a focal point.  Cooking in the restaurant is well intentioned with however some overwhelming quantities.  Starters seem to come in main course portions at least for this appetite.  The room itself is characterful and attractive - a nice place to while away an evening.  The self service breakfast features a thoughtful array of dishes. The downside however is the appalling vending machine coffee which tastes foul and tepid.  The hotel has a fine coffee machine - we got bolder on our final day and requested coffee from it.  For alternative dining out experiences there are some pleasant options in nearby Candeleria - taxi available from hotel if wishing to imbibe.  We enjoyed El Archete outside the town;  El Rey de Gambas near the basilica and the excellent fishermen's co-op which serves wonderfully cheap fresh fish during lunch time only.  All in all, Finca Salamanca provides a good vantage point from which to explore the attractions of off the beaten track Tenerife.  We recommend it with just some minor reservations.  Check it out!
