What our customers say
Lovely hotel, right on the beach.
We've used other Riu hotels in the Caribbean and although they've been lovely, the friendly and helpful staff in the Playacar really helps to make your holiday special.
The animacion (entertainment) team work their socks off to make your stay really enjoyable. There is always a host of activities happening during the day and whilst they'll approach you to encourage you to join in, they won't pester.
I'd highly recommend the water balloon fights that happen regularly in the pool - they are so much fun. If you have kids, get them to collect the little bits of broken balloon from the start as the child with the most gets a prize at the end.
The food, as with most all inclusives, gets a little repetetive but is of excellent quality. Try the freshly made pasta at lunchtime and watch out for the themed evenings in the restaurant. There are 2 a la carte restaurants as well (you need to book these) - they are both nice. Watch out if you don't like fish - that's all the mediterranean one serves.
Watch out for the iguanas wandering around the grounds & the large rabbit like creatures which the locals fondly call the 'mexican mouse'. They are so cute!!
You can also use the facilities of the other Riu hotels in Playacar, but in a fortnight, we didn't need to bother - the Playacar was really all we needed.
Trips - try and do an Eco Park. Snorkelling with the big fish was fantastic. Also, a swim with the dolphins is a must. Try to go to Dolphin Discovery, becuase here you can also swim with Manatees and have a kiss off a sea lion. Another trip that was excellent was the pirate dinner cruise - it's 3 hours of pure entertainment.
Think that's about it - would thoroughly recommend Mexico and the Riu hotel chain.
