The Riu Merengue lies between the mountains and surrounded by lush tropical vegetation, this comfortable hotel is situated on the wonderful Bay of Maimon directly beside the beach on the north coast. The nearest airport is some 25 km from the hotel and the centre of Puerto Plata is 9 km away. Links to the public transport network are to be found just 300 m away. The comfortable rooms each come with an en suite bathroom with hairdryer, a direct dial telephone, a minibar/ fridge, centrally controlled air conditioning and a hire safe. Each room additionally features a balcony or terrace and the larger suites are equipped with a hairdryer and bidet. In addition, they come with a lounge with a further TV set and are located on the seaward facing side of the hotel. There is a swimming pool with a separate children's pool and a sun terrace with sun loungers and parasols laid out ready for use. Leisure options on offer at no extra charge include 3 floodlit tennis courts, a gym, gymnastics, table tennis, billiards, beach volleyball, windsurfing, body boarding, sailing, kayaking, water ball as well as taster diving courses (conducted in the pool). A seasonal entertainment programme provides variation and, on payment of an additional fee, guests may try out water skiing, banana boating, jet skiing and fishing. Furthermore, there is a dive school and a massage service. The nearest golf course is some 15 km away. Live music, shows and RIU entertainment events are on offer in the evenings. A water sports centre and a beach bar lie in the neighbouring bay, about 500 m away. In the mornings, guests are offered the choice between a rich breakfast buffet or a continental breakfast (until 10 am). At lunchtimes, it is possible to select hot and cold dishes from a buffet or to enjoy some dishes or snacks prepared in the restaurant. The evening meal comes in the form of a buffet. Guests have the choice between Mediterranean, Dominican and Mexican cuisine although a reservation must be made in advance.
