good not great
06 August 2008
We're just back from a week in the Regina Gran with our three children (aged 8, 3 and 1).
The place was very family orientated with enough to keep the kids busy all day if you didn't want to go anywhere. Pool tables, table tennis, arcade games, a football area, some slides and a see-saw for the under 5s. Of course ours didn't have much time for any of this because we could not get them out of the pool. The pool is a good size with a baby pool included. Unlike another reviewer we had no problem getting sun loungers and the kids made lots of friends. We could have lounged around there every day and they would have been happy.
We were only in the hotel for three evenings so we didn't experience the whole range of entertainment on offer. However from what we did see we weren't missing much. It ranged from boring to cringeworthy. But there is a half hour dance at 9.30 every night for kids which our little girl loved.
On the whole the staff were lovely. The room left a lot to be desired. We asked for a quadruple with a cot. The double bed was actually a fold out sofa bed which we hardly fit on. The cot took up the only available floor space in the room.
We booked room only so only ate two of our meals in the hotel. Breakfast once and dinner once. There is a good selection but the quality was not great.
Overall I liked the Regina Gran hotel as a family destination. The kids had loads to do and the location was great (5 minutes to the beach - maybe ten with the kliaddies). The staff were helpful and the place was clean. Our room was cramped but since we spent so little time there this was only a minor irritation.

More 3*
05 August 2008
Hotel was ok for what we needed it for, although we did find the sofa bed much more comfortable than the main double bed, which was awful. 10-15 min walk to PortAventura was perfect and also not far from train stop to Barca and centre of Salou.
Breakfast can turn in to a bit of a war with not much traditional English food being ready at the same time.

Hi, just wanna thank alpha rooms for booking this great hotel and excellent location in the heart of salou centre. This was my first time in spain and definitely will be comin back. really enjoyed the whole buzz of salou with its beautiful beach front and of course the famous portaventura theme park. The hotel is in an excellent location, only 15 mins by taxi from Reus airport,5 mins to the largest Go Karting track in europe and 5 mins to an outstanding adventure theme park. Had a really good holiday, even it was short, had a nice stay. hotel staff were very friendly, rooms very clean, checked and cleaned every day.food was excellent, very happy with the level of service through out. outside bar stays open till 2am which is a huge plus if your longing for that extra few beers. Nice pool, outstanding gym, and well managed .would definitely recommend this hotel .

great holiday
21 July 2008
just got back from salou last night, this hotel was great, staff were friendly and helpful, food was good, rooms a bit small for four but cleaned everyday.iwould go back to this hotel, the entertainment was ok mr regina was hillarious and a magic show and pollenesian show was good.my girls are 13 and 8 and they loved it here as they met loads of new friends, they were never out of the pool which is lovely and clean.its just 10 mins to beach and shops and its about 20 mins to portaventura or you can get a bus.we went to barcelona zoo on friday which was brilliant,if you want to go to barca try and do it youself as its alot cheaper than the excursions, they wanted 250 euros but we got the train which cost 38 euros and 49 for all four of us to get into the zoo.it takes 1hr30 on the train and 2 on a bus.if you go to information bureau they give you maps and tell you best stops to get off at even if you want to go to nuecamp or the fountains.i recommend this hotel to anybody

Regina Gran 2008
13 July 2008
Just back from Regina Gran, our 2nd year in a row. Nothing much has changed in that year and although we enjoyed our stay, a couple of points were a bit annoying.
There was considerable queueing at dinner during first week, as hotel had not opened 2nd service bar for food. This was changed during second week and made a big difference at meal times.
Entertainment had not changed at all since last year. Same people, same shows, same guest entertainers etc. No thought put into it, and standard not very good.
Daily dog fight for sun loungers was a pain. There was a shortage of loungers and the hotel staff did not enforce rules that loungers could not be abandoned all day, with towels on them. Some guests would grab loungers at 10.00am, leave towels on them, and you wouldn't see them again till late afternoon. Staff should have ensured this was not allowed to happen. Guests had to lay toweld on grass surroundings about the pool area.
Although rooms are clean and compact, the sleeping arrangements are woefully inadequate for families with 2 children. Our room has a double bed and a fold down sofa bed. My kids are 11 and 9, and the sofa bed was simply not big enough for both of them. This was not so bad last year, when they were a bit smaller, but we ended up making a make-shift bed using sofa bed cushions on the floor. The kids alternated sleeping on it, but they did not get very good sleeps.
Generally, hotel was good, staff friendly enough and rooms cleaned daily, with fresh towels provided. I would recommend this hotel, but not if you are booking 1 room and have 2 children. Good, clean hotel, with excellent standard amd selection of food, but major let down on sleeping arrangements.

Regina Gran Hotel
25 June 2008
Hi, firstly let me say thank you to Alpharooms for sorting out the hotel. We had not booked on-line before and were wondering what we were letting ourselves in for. Our family of 4 adults and 2 children of 11 and 6 stayed at the Regina Gran hotel on a Half board basis in twin rooms. We arrived at the hotel at 11:45pm to where we were greeted by a very helpful receptionist who sorted out our rooms and information quickly. As we were late and had missed the final sitting they said we could have a complimentary lunch on any day we wanted. The service did not stop there. if we wanted anything or reported anything that was wrong, the staff were very efficient and it was sorted that day. The hotel is clean and is ideally situated as it is about 10 mins walk to the beach, 10 mins to the centre but far enough away to be quiet. The Port Aventura theme park is only a short bus trip away and for those who like to walk, it is well within walking distance. The rooms are cleaned daily. The food is a little repetative ( buffet style) but then so are most hotels after two weeks. One point to make is the plates were not hot so your food could go cold quickly but there are several microwaves. The pools and the facilities were good. Overall I would recommend this hotel.

Regina Hotel June 08
18 June 2008
We stayed in Regina June 08. 3 families in total. We had a half board stay. The Buffet was very good and catered for all tastes and for kids and adults alike. Evening meal had a good selection of meats and fish dishes. Drinks were table service. I decent bottle of Red wine about €10. The entertainment was varied. Polynesian night, Spainish singer on the keyboard (Waltzing etc..) Snakes & Spiders night. Mr Regina night, Mrs Regina night, Kids disco around 9.30 ea evening. Entertainment was to moved out doors the following week. Pool area: was excellent with small kids pool. Just off the main bar is pool room and arcade games with Internet access etc... ( One point, they leave double glass doors open at night, these are facing out to street area. This could cause a security risk if small children are unattended. Rooms with Balcony are basic with Bed, closet, sofa/bed, Fridge, safety deposit box and TV. TV needs remote cost €5 pw. Fridge €2 pd. Car parking €12 pd. Regina reception. many different faces. generally helpful but Local knowledge and information was lacking. Dining area staff and bar staff were disinterested and not very friendly. my 6 year old daughter dropped a toy behind bar counter. a barmaid was cutting lemons right there. We asked, could she see it. She walked away.
All in All: Poor staff. clean and basic. Its more like a ordinary 3 star. Even though we all enjoyed our hols. I would try someplace else next time.

16 June 2008
Just back from a week in salou with my girlfriend. This was our first time in the Regina Gran and we could have no complaints. Taxi costs 28 euro from the airport and the hotel will book your return taxi. Our room was lovely with air conditioning, tv and balcony overlooking the pool. The rooms were cleaned and fresh towels given every morning. There is a fridge in the room but its 2 euro a day to use. Any tea or coffee drinkers out there bring a travel kettle with u there is no kettle in the room!! The indoor pool is nice along with gym, jacuzzi and steem room. This is free from 11-6 after that it is 5 euro. There was a great range of choice for breakfast. The outdoor pool is gorgeous with no problem getting a sun lounger. Didn't stay around for much of the entertainment in the evenings it was aimed at families. Its only a 5 min walk to the centre of salou and the beach. About 15 min from Portaventura which i must admit was the highlight of my holiday. We spent 2 days there it was great. Overall i would recommended the Regina Gran Hotel to anyone going to Salou you won't be dissappointed.

Gran Regina Salou
02 June 2008
We took our two girls aged 6&8 to this hotel for hslf term break in May 2008. The hotel itself was fine - clean, everything you'd expect and the staff were very helpful. We booked ajunior suite which I think basically gave us an extra bathroom and shower which was very useful but I'm not sure we actually gained a lot in space generally. The hotel has two aspects - the front of the hotel faces the mountains and with some wastelend in front - this aspect also overlooks the main road access to Salou. The back of the hotel overlooks the pool you might get a glimpse of the sea amid the other blocks of hotels and apartments. The hotel has an indoor pool which although small was a lifesaver on our week as the weather was poor - only 2 days of sunshine & quite cold/wet on other days. The outdoor pool looks well but was very cold so we hardly used it at all. The food was good, plentiful and varied. On the last few morning we noticed it getting busier at breakfast with queues forming for tables. Annoying features - deposits for safe key, TV controls! (Sky News & BBC News only english channels) and fridge. There is a BBQ/bar area at the pool but this was not open while we were there. As descibed the hotel is an equal walk from the town/beach on one side to Port Aventura on the other. Overall considering the weather we had the hotel coped quite well and the staff are very good and look out for the kids.

28 May 2008
I stayed here with my 13 yr old son, the hotel matches equivalent UK 4 star hotels, the staff are very helpful and the facilities what you would expect for a 4 star hotel and as advertised. The buffet style food was also good. I'd have no problem going back to this hotel with any age of party.

Just returned from a 3 day stay. No complaints about hotel, just a warning for the ladies if you take the train to Barcelona be carefull of your handbag as I had my bag cut and my purse stolen as I stood on the platform. I was unaware of the theft untill hours later when I was shopping. The Regina Gran was excellent and we will be back.

4* Luxury
19 March 2008
I took 9 friends with me to celebrate a birthday. 5 twin rooms each en-suite with balcony facing East - brill. We were advised to use the local bus service which cost 10 Euros each for a return ticket. The bus dropped us off outside the hotel which was only c.20mins drive, then picked us up right on time as arranged. Taxis charge 35 Euros each way for same journey!! I was given 10 out of 10 by my friends for proximity of hotel to airport & to beach (700m). We loved the place. Clean, excellent service staff, decent food (self service buffet style dining). Only thing missing was tea/coffee making facility in rooms. Indoor & outdoor pools, steam room etc - all 1st class. Decent bar/lounge with evening entertainment, smoking bar for those of us that haven`t yet stopped, games room for kids, outdoor activities as well. A great package. Certainly to be recommended & possibly a 2nd trip coming up for me.

Regarding this hotel we have been around 3-4 times in total and I will have to say I will not be back again. We went this time as our honeymoon... the place is starting to look at bit worse for wear and really does need a good refurb. The staff are pleasent and the food was ok, but expected a tad more.
The hotel facilities are excellent and I have to say that I used the sauna, jacuzzi and the pool every day. The food was average but it was aswell there was a micrwave to heat your food up! Maybe I was expecting too much on my honeymoon!? For he price we paid I cannot really complain and if I needed a last minute place to look in Salou, I would use them again, butIi think that after this I will use apartments! For the money that you pay it is just OK but would exoect more in a 4 star.

Fantastic and welcoming hotel
29 October 2007
Have just returned from a 7 night stay at this fantastic hotel. The rooms are a reasonable size with a balcony. The housekkeping is superb. Staff were polite and very helpful if you had any issues or complaints. The only isue we had with the hotel is that we had to wear swimming caps and flip flops to use the indoor swimming pool!! The hotel is in a great location and is quite close to the town centre. The hotel is very close to Port Aventura (approx 10-15 mins walk). It's better to go tothe theme park near the end of the season or on a weekday as the park is very busy over the weekend. The food at the hotel was nice, but not alot of variety for people who don't eat meat or fish!! The desserts were absolutely out of this world and so much to choose from!!! The entertainment was pretty poor as this was either aimed at the older generation or the Spanish. Overall, we had a pleasant stay at this hotel and would certainly tell other people about it!!!

Good facilities & clean
28 August 2007
Just come back from a 12 day holiday (August 2007) at Regina Gran. It is a well kept and clean hotel, with good facilities. Food is varied and caters for a wide variety of tastes. I agree with a previous reviewee that the only area that lets this hotel down is its customer service. Staff can be a bit abrupt and appear to just carry out their job, rather than interacting with customers and enjoying their job, which is a shame because there are few exceptions to the rule who are really pleasant. The hotel is situated approx 15 minutes from Reus airport, which is ideal when travelling with small children. You can walk to the town centre, beach and Port Aventura from the hotel. Port Aventura is a great theme park. but I recommend paying the extra for an express ticket to avoid spending half the day queuing in the high season. Aquopolis is a good water park which has an dolphin show and opportunity to swim with seals which my son loved!. Karting salou is also a good day out, with small go karts for under 14's which they can drive themselves. Generally a really good holiday, with lots to keep children occupied.

08 August 2007
Have just returned from 2 week holiday at this hotel (Jul/Aug 07). The hotel facilities were what you would expect for a 4* hotel and I have no complaints about quality of food or standard of cleanliness. However, found the hotel staff to be both sullen and unfriendly towards Brits. Even witnessed 2 young Brits being told very curtly to 'come back in 30 mins' when requesting table tennis bats - despite the bats being in clear evidence just below the counter - there is only 1 table tennis table! Only staff we found pleasant and courteous were 2 members of reception staff and the housemaids were lovely. Felt staff were doing us a favour - grudgingly! On this basis, would not recommend this hotel to Brits - if Spanish - you are made very welcome!

Review of REGINA GRAN
27 July 2007
Me and my husband stayed in Regina Gran hotel a week July 2007.
Location: good, a bit traffic noises though from main street next to the hotel. Walking distance to the beach, centrum and port aventura.
Rooms: Received smokers room despite requests of non-smoking room. bathroom really clean and nice. Positively surprised about refridgerator in room.
Hotel area: Pool really nice. However, sunbeds were always reserved already early in the morning with towels. Quite irritating. Also tested the gym, which was ok.
Food: We had just breakfast, which was ok. Everyone from staff were friedly to us.

18 April 2007
This was our third visit to the Regina Gran, a fact that speaks for itself. It is excellent value for money. While the weather in Salou was very bad it did not worry us as there is plenty to do in the hotel. The indoor pool, steam room, sauna, etc. are excellent with sunbeds around the pool. The food as usual was of a very good standard and the buffet breakfast and dinner catered for every taste. It is on about 20 minutes walk to Port Aventura and 10 minutes to Salou's lovely promenade. We are already looking forward to next year.

Nice hotel - meals very good - we stayed in March 2007 so the resort is very quiet. Entertainment in hotel at weekends only at this time of year. Indoor swimming pool and gym just across from the railway line but really did not hear that much noise - suggest you may want to request a room on the side of the hotel which does not look onto railway line. Great connectiions via rail to Barcelona and very cheap trains €11.20 return. If you are looking for a very quiet resort from November to end of March, Salou is OK and I can recommend the Regina Grand.

Review of 'REGINA GRAN'
02 December 2006
I was looking on the internet at hotels in Salou/Barcelona for a good price. Somehow i ended up on alpharooms.com, which i had never heard of before. So i started looking and found the Regina Gran Hotel at an awesome price, and thought there would be a catch since its a 4**** hotel...there was no catch, so i booked. Usually when i hear somewhere is 4****, i take a star away so im not dissapointed. I didnt need to with this one, even when driving up to this hotel i thought ''is right, this looks the biz''...and i was right, the hotel was smart, modern, has a large eating room, a large bar, helpfull staff, indoor and a beautiful outdoor pool, a gym, jaccuzi, games room, mini golf putting course which looks cool, and most importantly...the rooms were clean and tidy. There are no negatives i can think of for this hotel, even the choice of breakfast was great...and they can cook scrambled egg just as i like it.haha.
I strongly advise anyone going to Barcelona or Salou to book this hotel. If your going to Barca, dont get the coach from Salou, take the train for 11 euros return, it takes you to the centre of Barca in 1hr and 20 mins, a lot faster than the bus...and the trains are really tidy. So...need i say anymore...book the Regina Gran through this website, i had no probs and a great time, i think you will too!!!

this hotel was fairly out of the way and quite a walk to any shopping area. Also it was on a slight hill incline [but nothing like the hill near the Rovers Return]. It was spotless clean and the staff were really pleasant and spoke excellent english. The food was a good selection and catered well for everyones taste but what is it about spanish hotels, i haven't stayed anywhere yet where their food is served really hot, always like warm. This hotel was no different im afraid. There is however always a microwave on standby. I enjoyed my few days break even though it was in the quiet season but purely because of the distance to any social life i wouldn't stay there again. Had it been nearer to the centre, or shopping areas i wouldn't hestitate.

We were there for one week at end of October 2006. Hotel very clean and food excellent but rooms a little bit small. Entertainment very repetitive (dancing every night), catering for the older guests which became very boring, especially for the children. Don't know if this might improve in high season? Staff very friendly and polite but a severe lack of sunbeds around the outdoor pool area. 10 min walk to beach & shops but not all were open as end of season.

Review of 'REGINA GRAN'
30 October 2006
This could be the shortest review ever. Two letters would suffice O and K. Nothing special really, the rooms were of a similar standard to the three key apartments we stay in, in Alcudia (but nowhere near 4star)
In our party of 7, we felt that the staff were a little surly and could not be bothered to speak to us. We asked twice for chairs for the balcony but none arrived.
The reception staff at the leisure facilities seemed to not like people in the hotel using the gym, they too were very off hand. I know it was the last week of the season but most of the staff seemed to have already closed down the previous week. Most of the sun beds were packed away for the winter the day after we arrived which meant that even though the hotel was only a quarter full there were still not enough sun beds to go around.
The evening meals were average, the breakfast would have been nice if all of the cooked items had been more than barely warm. The entertainment was ok but very Spanish, but hey what do you expect in Spain.
For the money we paid this hotel was OK and if we were to book a very cheap last minute break we would probably use it again. If I had paid genuine 4star prices I would have been very disappointed.

This hotel was very clean - towels replaced every day - floors washed each day - clean bedding. The food wasn't great - we opted for b&b option which was okay but went once for dinner and wasn't impressed. We also met with some couples who had paid for full board but were eating out. Apart from that the staff were very helpful - some entertainment for the kids and also a show of some sort every night. Whilst first impressions were that this hotel catered mostly for Spanish - we met in with a mixture of people from Britian, France and Germany. Would certainly go back to this hotel but would opt out of food option.

stayed in the regina gran hotel for a week from the 20th to 27th September 2006. we were a group of three couples aged mid twenties to mid thirties. We had a ball, the hotel was beautiful and we made use of the jacuzzi, sauna and steam room and the indoor pool on the only day it rained. The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to ensure that our stay was as enjoyable as possible. the hotel was about a ten minute walk from Fortaventura where we spent two days, it was great, although the water park there is more foy children than adults. taxis were very reasonable and the nite life certainly kept us entertained all week, go to double dutch...fat frogs on tap!! I would highly recommend the hotel and we are already organising a return visit with our children in March.

The hotel has plenty of facilities for families especially with young children. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The rooms overlooking the pool are probably quieter. The staff were very helpful and most spoke good english. We didn't try the restaurant but the pool bar was fine for snack. The only problem we had was with the lack of sunbeds. The pool didn't open to 10AM and sunbeds were unlocked from about 9.30am on , however there are those that enjoy queuing so much they were there from 9am. Overall an enjoyable stay and excellent for what we paid for it and a good base for Port Aventtura.

Went to salou an march 2006 with family and boyfriend. Hotel was spotless and reception staff were very friendly and helpful. We stayed on a half board basis and the food was acceptable if u arent a fussy eater like myself, although everyone else seemed to enjoy and were more than happy with the selection. I also felt the food was not warm enough at times. The entertainment wasnt great, but we were impressed by the high standard and cleanliness of the hotel that me and my boyfriend have booked another holiday for sept to stay again in the Regina as salou was rather ''dead'' in march.

A very good hotel, clean, good selection of food and staff very efficient. Good pool area but lacks adequate shade - no parasols !! Near to railway line but very little noise. They are starting to develop at the front of the hotel so could have associated noise . We enjoyed our stay there and would recommend it. Very near to Port Adventura - about 2 miles by road.

This was the best holiday we have ever been on, the hotel was fabulous, very clean. The choice of food was great, there was every type and if you could not find something from the choice there is definately something wrong with you. Maid service every day, entertainment every evening, pool games every day and the staff were very friendly. There was also a poolside bar which served snacks and a mini golf course as well as pool tables outside & table tennis. There was an enormous games room indoors, an indoor pool, sauna, hairdressers & beauty salon. I want to book this place again but I have to wait until august for availability. Alpharooms got this place completely right and I would highly reccomend this hotel to all.

First time in Costa Daurada area and Salou was a good choice. Plenty of holiday activities: beach, theme park, water parks, nice old villages nearby etc. Hotel was guite what we expected: outdoor pool was ok, for colder seasons indoor one is good to have, gym was extra. Premises were good standard, cleaning daily, tasteful food with enough alternatives. Overall, no doubts to recommend!

Hotel Facilites were lovely. Room was tiny, no room to swing a cat. Some of the restuarant staff were extremly rude and unhelpfull. Food was nice, easy to find something for everyone. Entertainment was ok, a bit tacky. Overall I think the hotel should only be classed as a 3*. Will not be going back.

Stayed at this hotel 28/05/06 for 7 nights. excellent hotel. Spacious rooms, friendly staff and delicious food. The location of this hotel is excellent 10mins from beach and town walking. The facilities were excellent indoor pool and outdoor, jacuzzi and sauna. Went to Tarragona for the day loved it.Excellent shopping and went to beautiful cathedral. Only 20mins bus ride from Salou. Will definitely go back to this hotel.

We stayed in this hotel on a bed & breakfast basis, we found the hotel to be very pleasent and clean. The rooms where cleaned every day and the grounds of the hotel where well maintained. It had a large outdoor pool, small indoor pool, bar, restaurant, snack bar, beauticians, hair dressers. The rooms were a good size with balcony, double bed, en-suite, safe, television (two english channels only). The breakfast was a buffet style and we had plenty to choose from hote food, cereals, bread, cakes, fruit anything you could need for breakfast. The staff were friendly most of the time, they were a bit rude at breakfast times but any other time they were very friendly and helpful. It was about a twenty minute walk to the beach, twenty minutes to the bars and restaurants, twenty minute to Portaventura Theme park and water park, fifteen to the train statin for Barcelona.
