Relaxing above the city

The Refugio staff were very professional and never once laughed at my spanglish!
You need more than a basic level of spanish to get by up here but its amazing how much you can learn when you are forced to.
The Refugio is clean, welcoming and very cosey, especially in the evenings in the lounge with a fabulous bottle of wine.
The restaurant menu is lovely and could be found in a top London restaurant at double the price. The bar menu is basic tapas but is a sufficient meal if you dont want something too meaty. Make sure you order by 9ish as the staff dont seem too happy to serve too late. Unsure why as it was extremely quite through the week.
It seems to pick up on a weekend when alot of native Spanish families come up for walking weekends.
The scenery is spectacular but the walks could be sign posted a little better as we came across a number of people who were walking without maps and guessing the roots as only 1 or 2 signs shown on root.
The town of Ojen is an 1.5hrs walk away and is a lovely place to head to of you want to have a typical local experience.
Marbella is a 25 euro ride away and is a nice surprise once you get away from the main shopping district.
I would recommend this place to anyone and think it would be the perfect place for a group or family. As a couple we were happy chilling out drinking good wine and taking long walks. If you are wanting a lively night this is not for you!
