Beautifully run & maintained hotel with varied breakfast buffet & exceptionally helpful staff. Lovely position with harbour views & safe outside swimming pool. Conveniently close to many excellent restaurants, if needed. Definitely deserves its 5 star rating.

We have stayed at this hotel on three occasions and found the location overlooking the harbour to be exceptional although the steps down to the harbour where there are many good restaurants, would be difficult for the disabled. The food in the hotel is excellent with breakfast and dinner being buffets with many and varied courses. The staff are very friendly and conscientious with Martin (the bar steward) being top class. Some of the rooms can be on the small side and it is worthwhile to pay extra for a room with a sea-view and balcony.

We stayed at the Port Mahon in September 2005.  We loved the hotel.  We found the staff very friendly and helpful, the breakfast excellent, the room, although small, was very comfortable.  We particulary enjoyed the view from the hotel terrace.  We would, however, recommend paying extra for a room with a seaview.

Lovely hotel, the staff were excellent and the pool and surroundings were lovely. The view from the restaurant terrace over the bay was magnificent. The area around the hotel was  residential and so very quiet. To get to the marina required a walk down over 100 steps however they were very pretty and set in tiers, we found that resting at the 2nd meant the task was not too daunting. We stayed in room 123 which had a balcony to 2 sides and got the afternoon and evening sunshine, the room was very nice but the shower was very basic and the shower curtain quite old fashioned and not in keeping with the rest of the room or hotel. We would definitely recommend the hotel to those able to manage the steps and plan to return their ourselves next year.

The location is idylic providing, from a front balconied room, a wonderful view of the harbour entrance and the key features in the harbour. The facilities are excellent and clean and all the staff relaxed, helpful and discreet. We were only staying one night after a villa holiday but the staff treated us as though we were long stay. The facilities of a luggage store and available shower room enabling us to check-out, go to a beach and then return and shower before catching our return flight was very helpful.Food sampled (breakfast) was good and wide ranging. The hotel is only 100m walk from the harbour front with the harbour restaurants on the doorstep. The hotel is totally recommended.

Fantastic hotel and great location.
Just a few minutes from the bars & restaurants of Port Mahon.
Staff very friendly & hotel clean and tidy. Excellent restaurant and bar areas, along with excellent pool area.

The downside is that the walls are all not soundproof and you can hear up to 3 rooms away, along with the room above or below depending where you are. Right through until 2 or 3 in the morning is a succession of banging doors, raised voices etc.
If you want a good nights sleep then best to avoid.

Loved it! Stayed for only one night at the end of a 2 week break in Minorca. It was a fabulous way to end our holiday. We were upgraded to a suite and couldn't have asked for a nicer room. It was extremely spacious and very well decorated. Some of the other bedrooms looked a little tired but all were extremely clean and well stocked ie. with toiletries etc. The pool and patio areas were amazing and the views over the harbor were glorious.

Very nice quiet hotel, in a beautiful location overlooking the sea. Pity that this time the restaurant was not in full working service due to the low season, but I have been there before in spring/ summer and enjoyed their food too; good buffet at a convenient price. V.Good value for money from Alpha Rooms.

Although it rained quite heavily during the first week in October, it did not stop us from hiring a car and seeing the whole of the island.  Easy driving, delightful scenery, and easy access to many small villages and beaches. I would certainly book accommodation again as the Port Mahon Hotel, but recommend paying for an upgrade for a sea view. Take your binoculars for spectacular views of the Port. The reception staff at the hotel were exceptionally helpful and spoke perfect English.  The hotel has an old colonial ambience, but not quite the same standard of its newer sister hotel, El Rompido, Costa de la Luz.  The bathrooms could do with an upgrade - couldn't reach the shower head! Still a beautiful hotel though.

If you require a hotel with quiet surroundings, attentive staff, splendid views over Mahon bay, and the best range of food we have enjoyed in a hotel for many years, this is the place for you.  Breakfast included champagne and strawberries.  Buffet dinner was a feast of local cuisine with so many dishes to choose from that you could be a little bit greedy!  We were given our seaview and double-aspect balcony through our on-line booking and were delighted with every aspect of our stay.

If you're tired of street hawkers; fighting for sunbeds; misleading brochure descriptions then this is the hotel and the place for you. We were there for a week and found the people and staff extremely helpful and polite; the building may seem a bit 'dated' but the facilities are first class and everything works. The buffet breakfast was outstanding with all combinations of hot and cold, local and international fayre. We found ourselves skipping lunch on several days. The view from the bedrooms and the swimming pool overlooks Mahon harbour which makes it both picturesque and entertaining. The harbour tour is a must. The only potential downside is that you can not walk to a beach but if you must visit one then the local buses are very cheap and the taxi is about 10 Euros. We have put this hotel at number 1 on our 'must return one day' list.

Although our stay at Port Mahon was short, it was most certainly sweet. After arriving at this magnificent (and strikingly red!) hotel, our check-in was dealt with quickly and we found our fabulous room with ease.

The room was tastefully decorated and modern with air-conditioning (a blessing in the hot Menorcan nights) a clean, well-equipped bathroom and a small balcony with a spectaular view of the habour. Down by the harbour are a long row of shops and restaurants, they are pleasant and lively at night, yet this does not produce enough noise to distract your night's sleep. The evening buffet in the hotel restaurant was very tasty, with a variety of dishes on offer, and the staff there were very friendly and welcoming.

Due to our flight we had to check-out early in the morning (early enough to see a spectacular sunrise across the harbour from our balcony), before breakfast, yet the hotel staff were happy to prepare us a cold breakfast for us at our specified time. This lovely little table filled with coffee, orange juice, fruit, cakes and biscuits awaited us in the piano bar, where me and my partner had breakfast alone.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at this hotel and would highly recommend it.
