Could be so much better

09 October 2008
Stayed for one night would not want to stay for longer. Good points are free parking, breakfast not bad close to city centre and good price. Bad points: bedroom dark and depressing and smelt of smoke despite being a non-smoking room, bathroom ceiling had bad leak right over WC (caused by heavy rain), bathroom very tired with avocado suite with broken bath panel, rusty radiator and pipework and didn't look very clean. Whole place is in desperate need of refurbishment. It a beautiful building so its such a shame to let it get in to such a poor state.

A LITTLE JADED IN PLACES

04 August 2008
For one night The Plough and Harrow is fabulous value for money. The hotel staff were very pleasant and the breakfast was more than adequate. The rooms, as well as being far too warm, were very much in need of some tlc. The little things like light bulbs not working, paint peeling and taps that are hard to turn off, all things that don't take much maintenance but make a difference. Swallow Hotels take notice!

Very good value

07 April 2008
I just needed a reasonably priced room for one night for some work I was doing in Birmingham. I thought it was very good value for money. The main reception area, dining room and bar were nice, with some original features. The hotel is very old (and even boasts that Tolkeinn stayed there). I had a single room which was roomy and clean, although was getting a bit tatty round the edges. Staff were helpful.

great value

Good value for money close to city centre ideal for a short break. The room was very dated and needs some tender loving care, but very clean . I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Yes, the enterior is a bit tired and some carpets and decorations really need to be changed but then this old place has its own character and is good value for money. If you rather stay in a modern, sterile place this is not for you. Staff helpful, room/beds clean, breakfast not bad. Convenient - bus stop just a few yards away with lines which bring you into the centre within minutes.

A Good one nighter

02 March 2008
Good Value, large room, decent breakfast, very convenient for Broad Street, NIA etc (10 mins walk). Decor (1970's) is very dated and tired, but if you can get over that then you shouldn't have any problems with this hotel for the money you pay.

Great Value

Great value for money and excellent breakfast. Large room with double bed and very clean, but furnishings are a little dated. Good size bathroom with a great shower. Friendly and helpful staff.

Friendly but tired

22 November 2007
OK - positives - staff friendly and helpful, second breakfast quite good (interesting fruit selection, cooked breakfast hot and tasty, coffee not bad) , bed clean and comfy .. on the negative .. furnishings very tired and the room was gloomy, the bathroom had no heating, the shower was weak and the head came off when I tried to adjust the flow .. finally, the location on Hagley Road is OK if you want to travel into the city, I guess, but otherwise it is a nuisance having to drive towards the city centre to the nearest roundabout in order to turn around to go out of town again .. the queues were horrendous

Review of 'PLOUGH AND HARROW'

04 December 2006
The room was clean, spacious and well presented.  The staff were pleasant enough and helpful as needed. The hotel was a little tired round the edges in places (carpets and paintwork in corridors ..chairs in the dining room) but, overall, the place was pretty good for the money.
