Excellent location right in the middle of Nerjer. Very clean and rooms are of generous size. Cleaned daily and lovely rooftop lounge area. Breakfast a bit boring after a while as the same choice every day. Will definately be returning to this hotel and highly recommended

Our Stay At the Plaza Cavana
04 May 2009
This Hotel/Restaurant made a lovely change from the huge Spanish hotels we have stayed in at other resorts. It has probably about 40 rooms in all and although our room was not the largest it was certainly clean and functional.
Although rated as 3 stars it is certainly better than that and is a Thompson's Gold certified hotel.
None of the rooms have large balconies and some have none, but this is due to the architecture of its surroundings and it fits in perfectly.
Superb location a throw away from the Balcone de Europa, the quaint beaches and all the shops.
The menu is served here by friendly and proffesional staff and a good choice of starters, main meals and deserts there is too.
Breakfast is help yourself continental style with a reasonable choice.
All food was of good taste, presentation and quality, except some of the vegetables which looked as though they had been boiled before.
Not the place I would say for families with children that are used to helping themselves to a buffet style menu.
I would certainly come here again, although as the resort of Nerja has a tremendous number of restaurants serving culinary dishes from all over the world, I think I would opt for breakfast only and eat out at different places.
This resort is lovely and has a unique feel about it. I recommend a visit here and I trust you will wish to return.

Just back from a great stay at the Hotel Plaza Cavana in Nerja.
The hotel is a homely friendly place. As soon as you arrive you feel part of a community with the family who own the hotel being as much a part of it as the other guests, some of whom we had met during previous stays at the hotel.
The rooms are open and airy and our room provided great views down Calle Grenada.
Given then range of restaurants and bars in Nerja we only eat breakfast at the hotel.
Our fortnight was a blissful relaxing time and I would recommend Nerja, ans this hotel in particular for anyone wanting to get a taste of Spanish life on the Andulusian coast.

Would definitely recommend
16 April 2009
The hotel is ideally placed right in the centre of Nerja about a minute walk from the Balcon de Europe. Surrounded by countless good restaurants and bars and within a few minutes walk of 4 separate beaches.
The room was lovely, with more than enough space. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast offered a good variety. Also there was a nice lounge and bar in the hotel, but given the choice close by, we didn't use too much. Nice swimming pool on the roof with a great view out to the church and the sea.

Stayed for 10 days B & B in January. Excellent accommodation at a fantastic price. Room was light, airy and a good size. Reception/bar staff were very helpful and courteous and spoke good English. Breakfast is a cold buffet with lots of choice. Nerja is the only place I would stay on the coast between Estepona and Almeria! It is unspoilt with lots of good restaurants. Especially good for walking.

We stayed in the Plaza Cavana for 3 nights on half board basis and found it very good and reasonable, it was nice to be waited on for dinner and not having to line up for buffet service. The room was very spacious and cleaned every day with fresh towels also had a good heating system as it was quite cold in the evenings. Staff are very friendly pleasant and helpful. The hotel is in a perfect location was ideal, really close to many beaches and the Balcon. Would definately visit Nerja again and stay in the Plaza Cavana

Stayed for 8 nights bed and breakfast. Location excellent, 2 minutes from Balcon de Europe, less than five minutes from beaches, close to restaurants and shops. Room was good size overlooking the square, very clean, air conditioning worked well. Reception staff very helpful and spoke good English . We did not use the roof top pool as it was too small but with the beach so close it did not matter to us. Breakfast was fine although dining room could be very hot, sit near the door if possible. Nerja was very nice, very good choice of restaurants, several beaches within easy walking distance, lots of shops. Frigiliana worth visiting, less than one euro on the bus Plenty of places to visit on a day trip. We went to Granada and the Alhambra which is excellent. Will definitely go to Nerja again and stay at the Plaza Cavana

Travelled with a group of five couples to a wedding between 8 and 12 of Sept 2008.Found the hotel perfectly located, only minutes walk from Nerja Church. Also location is perfect for local restaurants, cafes, bars and beaches. Some of the party were half board and others bed and breakfast. All those who ate in hotel reported the food and service very good.Staff were unintrusive but friendly and happy to help when required. The roof top pool and terrace were perfect for our needs.Only critism would be that some of the parties rooms were slightly small and the jacuzzi and sauna were not on and the gym was unattended and lacked notice of such and directions on how to use.Beers and snacks in hotel were brilliant and very reasonably priced.Nerja itself is a very deceiving town,it provides everything in relation to all restaurant tastes and night life.Great detail is spent to cleanliness as with the cleaning and service staff at hotel. We will most definately be returning, possibly annually. 11 August 2008
As all other reviews state, this is a gem of a hotel placed in an ideal location. The rooms are light and airy, with constant a/c as you do not need your room key/card for the power, so when you come in it's like a fridge. Maid service is excellent and english spoken well on reception. Pool on top of roof is very small, just a plunge pool really with only 14 sun beds! We went to the beach every day as it was so near, so we were not fussed! Gym (cross trainer, not working, tread mill and multi centre weight bench) and indoor pool also very small. Now we come to the thorn in the side of the Plaza Cavana....the dining room. This is down in the basement, so if you like your breakfast overlooking the pool/sea/garden, or just overlooking anything, forget it...no windows! The food is fine and coffee is a bit hit and miss, but its just basically B&B standard. We found something to eat everyday, no rush as its open for 3 hours and food is constantly replenished as the hot plate is so small. You just eat and go. The rarely used bar on the ground floor would be better, we felt, used as the breakfast room. It may even get a 4 star rating then. If you just want a nice clean room with a/c in a prime location this is for you. If you like a hotel based holiday, look elsewhere. Hope this helps

Very good hotel for a reasonable price. The location is the best thing about the hotel as it is at the centre of the town. You have easy access to anywhere quickly. 27 June 2008
We stayed there for 2 weeks in june, the outside looked tiny but it was like a tardis. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. we had a newly decorated room situated at the side of the hotel. it was a tad noisy at times but nothing a set of earplugs wouldnt fix. great location. good amenities but not a hotel for children. roof top pool is small (7x3m) but makes a refreshing dip. has indoor pool but this is not heated and you would have to buy a hat at reception. the gym consisted of 3 machines, not all working. the bar is very quaint with lots of character. food was very samey. but bar snacks on the roof were great. so many places to eat, but the best was the chinese, come out of the hotel, turn right and approx 50yards on the right. we would definately go back again, nerja is a beautiful town with lots of beaches and coves (just like tracey island). a must is the donkey sanctuary. if you want to travel there by bus from malaga airport its easy, lone female 40yrs did it. come out of airport turn right, get no. 19 bus to central station. buy a ticket from alsina grealls for under 4€ . go to bus stop 38 and enjoy the ride. saves you at least 60 euros.

20 June 2008
Wonderful hotel in a very convenient position for restaurants, bars and beaches. We had a front room facing the square which was very well presented, cleaned daily and clean towels provided daily. Friendly and efficient staff. Breakfast was above standard continental. You can also buy bacon for 90cents,sausage 90cents, fried egg 60 cents and scrambled eggs were also available. On our last day we needed to leave before breakfast and were provided with orange juice, toast and coffee at 6.30 am. Excellent! The only reason not rate 5 was the early morning noise outside from the refuse collectors and people pressure washing the road. We would certainly use the hotel again but would request a quieter room next time.

An excellent hotel, in a great resort with wonderful weather.
28 April 2008
I guess that could be all the report that is needed about the Hotel Plaza Cavana in Nerja. Myself and my partner stayed at the hotel from Easter Sunday (23rd March) for two weeks. I had been concerned that with Easter so early the weather might not be as good as it normally is in this sunny part of Andalusia, however we had two of the best weeks weather I can remember - sunny with cloudless skies.
Nerja itself with its bustling streets and lovely restaurants is just far enough away from the 'costas' to provide a really Spanish feel to the holiday. The range of tapas bars and restaurants means you can eat somewhere different every day you are there. Some of the restaurants are truly world-class.
The hotel itself complements the weather so well. The Plaza Cavana is a small family hotel and staying there is like becoming a member of the family. The staff, both the family and their committed staff are friendly and never find a request to hard to handle, this is what makes a holiday at the Plaza Cavana such a great option, you know you will be looked after well.
An example of this is the way another couple who were staying at the same time were treated by the hotel. The husband had been taken ill and was in hospital an hour and a half away in Benalmadena, the family who own the hotel offered to take his wife daily, at no cost to her, to see him. The Hotel Manager and his brother did this throughout the period in their personal cars. Even though I thought the hotel was wonderful before this personalised customer service, this raises it in my mind to the highest level in terms of putting the guest first.
Back now after a brilliant two weeks I'll be looking to book the Plaza Cavana again as soon as next year's dates become available. I can't think of anywhere else in the world where it is possible to feel you are sharing someone's home not being an anonymous guest.

Perfect Location for long weekend
29 October 2007
We had originally wanted the Balcon de Europa Hotel but actually were very happy as we felt that this one was better situated. The bars in the square were perfect for a late night drink. The carpark was out of order so I would advise checking with them first - it was quite costly parking in a nearby one. The breakfast was good - plenty of choice. The people were friendly and I would reccommend Nerja to anyone especially for a short break. It has lovely streets to walk around and the scenery is beautiful.

This hotel was clean and friendly and in an excellent location for beaches, Balcon de Europa and lovely walks down back streets. They had the added bonus of a car park below the hotel, which was convenient and a lot cheaper than the town's car parking facilities. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Nerja who wanted to be central to the town but with access to small, pretty beaches.

Hotel plaza Cavana, July 2007
23 July 2007
Just back from a week at the Plaza Cavana. Last stayed here July 2005 and glad to say nothing much has changed. Couldn't fault the location - 2 or 3 mins walk took you to the Balcon, the beaches and all the bars/restaurants you could want. There are 4 bars in the small square right outside so an alfresco nightcap isn't a problem. The staff were very friendly and most spoke English. The hotel restaurant served good food and had a reasonable selection of wines. Things to be aware of 1) getting into the car park is a real pig unless you're in a toy car (get the bus from the airport instead, it''s much more fun and incredibly cheap!) 2) The late night clear up/early morning deliveries all seem to pass close by which can disturb sleep. This time I opted for a room overlooking the centre of the hotel rather than the street so no noise.
Nerja itself is a lovely spot - geared for tourists but retaining a Spanish charm and no high rise buildings. There are several beaches - all clean - which is just as well as it probably gets crowded once the school hols start. Paths are broad but Nerja is on a cliff and it's quite a steep walk up and down to the beaches so people with walking difficulties might find it quite a challenge. The few discos are in one small area so easy to find and don't disturb anyone. Otherwise the night life is more about relaxing in bars and restaurants. I will go back again.

Hotel Plaza Cavana June 2007
19 June 2007
This hotel is located in the heart of the old town of Nerja just a few yards from the superb Balcon de Europa. The hotel is beautifully decorated throughout in marble and has excellent furnishings. Staff were friendly and speak good English.
Nice roof top pool area for sunbathing and cooling down.
Unfortunately the substance of the hotel doesn't match its style. We were upgraded to a superior room but this turned out to have mixed blessings. Superior rooms are at the front of the hotel and suffer from tremendous noise during the night. To make matters worse the airconditioning wasn't working which made for hot sleepless nights.
Satellite TV was also malfunctioning. Breakfast is basic unless you are a fan of sausage paste!!
Overall this could be a useful hotel for two or three night break but it needs to sort out its maintenance and double glazing before we venture back.

Wonderful hotel in a wonderful town
09 June 2007
Our stay in the Plaza Cavana can only be described as excellent. The one way streets in Nerja provided a bit of a challenge but once there we were very well provided for. We asked for a quiet room and it was quiet. The room was clean, well maintained and serviced daily. The pool area on the roof terrace was lovely. The gym needed a bit of money spent on it, but none the less a nice addition. We cant vouch for the sauna and jacuzzi as we didn't use them. The a la carte food menu was fantastic. The location of this hotel is perfect. We would definitely go back to stay in this hotel.

23 April 2007
I had visited Nerja about ten years ago, I was persuaded by my son and his partner to join them for two weeks this Easter at the Hotel Plaza Cavanna.
The hotel is a lovely family run establishment set right in the centre of the picturesque town of Nerja. A continental breakfast is offered each morning with a lovely range of meats, cheeses, eggs etc. A big temptation to eat too much.
The hotel is in the centre of the town, so it can be noisy at times, but as I was in one of the internal rooms, overlooking a lovely internal courtyard garden this was not a problem.
The location of the hotel makes it very attractive, certainly one worth remembering for the future.

23 April 2007
My partner and I made this our seventh visit to the Hotel Plaza Cavanna. Yet again the hotel proved to be just the right place for a holiday.
As well as the lovely room, the quiet but helpful service from the staff, many of whom are members of the family who own the hotel, marks this out as one of our favourite places in the world.
The hotel is located in the centre of Nerja and therefore is a perfect location for seeing the rest of this lovely town, or for travelling further afield around the Andaluzian countryside.
At the end of the day there is nothing better then to sit outside the Hotel at the Cafeteria Plaza where you can enjoy watching the people who pass through the Plaza on their way to or form Nerja's wonderful range of restaurants.

It is perfectly situated for the centre of Nerja but being in the centre of the Town there is a lot of noise. The biggest drawback is parking you have to drive into a car lift from the street to be lowered into the basement but if the car is bigger than a Fiesta or similair then no chance and secure parking is expensive 16 to 22 euros a day.Breakfast is ok but always cold and some of the staff should learn to smile otherwise ok.

Review of 'PLAZA CAVANA' NERJA
26 July 2006
I travel to Spain several times a year with my elderly mother, since my father died a couple of years ago. Our stay at the Hotel Plaza Cavana was the best to date.We had a balcony room overlooking the square and as it was early July the place was buzzing. Everything was within easy walking distance which gave my mother, who has limited mobility,a taste of independence.Taxis are all a set rate within Nerja- 5 euros- if you want to go to Burriana Beach where there are many lovely restaurants. The hotel was cosy and friendly and the rooftop pool very pretty. Can't wait to go again.

The Hotel Plaza Cavana is an excellent place to stay in the centre of Nerja. The hotel is well run and is very clean throughout, information is available 24hrs a day from friendly English speaking receptionists. There are many facilties in Plaza Cavana with a roof top swimming pool and bar and we also made use of the indoor swimming pool. The restaurant is excellent although we thought the menu could be a little more varied. If you book a room overlooking the square be aware that is it quite noisy but the atmosphere more than compensates. We will certainly return. Thank you Alpha rooms.

09 July 2006
I stayed at the Hotel Plaza Cavana with my partner between 30 June and 8 July 2006. Initially, being quite a well travelled couple, we were disappointed with the "Superior" room. The room itself was comfortable but there was not enough storage space for clothing which was surprising in a room of its size. The bathroom was not up to standard at all. It was dated and very small. We actually asked to see a standard room and found that the bathroom was larger with newer sanitary fittings and the only difference with the standard room was the beds were smaller and there was absolutely no view. However, we soon got used to our surroundings. Superior rooms are at the front of the hotel and it can be very noisy during the weekends which can disturb sleep. There is no terrace, just a small balcony. On the whole I would not recommend paying the extra to book a superior room. The hotel itself is clean with extremely helpful and friendly staff and it is in an ideal situation for access to the Balcon de Europe and fabulous beaches of Nerja (all within 3-5 mins walk). Breakfast is continental style but plentiful and fresh. To summarise we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel once we got used to our surroundings. I would stay here again but not in a superior room. If you have a hire car there is also a car park (the hotel charges for use of this but its cheaper than the public car parks). The roof top pool is tiny but adequate with free sunbeds, a seating area and bar. The one day we spent by the pool was peaceful and if you want to catch some rays, its a fantastic suntrap! On the whole a lovely stay and I would recommend the hotel. A final surprising note, the hotel bar charges exactly the same price for beverages as many bars in the vicinity and also shows all major sporting events on a large plasma screen. What more could you ask for!!

Well appointed hotel in an excellent location just yards from the Balcon de Europa with lots of restaurants in the vicinity.Rooms were modern, spacious and clean.Rooftop pool area very attractive and never crowded. The only negative comment I would make would be the service in the restaurant. We ate there three times and twice the service was poor. Both times they "forgot" to serve our desserts, even though there were only four tables in use at the time.Nevertheless I would certainly go back to this hotel, but probably on a bed and breakfast basis.

A great hotel at the centre of the lovely town of Nerja. Unlike other hotels the Plaza Cavanna has a family atmosphere and within days you meet the owner, his two sons and his daughters and become part of the community at the Plaza. The hotel fronts onto the Plaza and provides access to everything: food, drink and night life; that you need for a great time in the town. Sitting outside in the Cafeteria Plaza in the evening is the most relaxing and pleasurable experience of my life.

Very pleasant, central hotel. It's location was good for car access and was very close to the Balcon, shopping and beach areas. Staff were friendly, helpful and spoke some English. Our room was large, clean and quiet. Breakfast room was very busy and we had to wait for a table, but there was copious food, with a good selection with great juices! Enjoyed Nerja itself also. Parking in hotel garage had a very tight entry, but 'do-able' with a small car. Hotel was all we had been promised and would definitely stay there again.

We stayed at this hotel for six nights in march having previously been before in january. In each case we found every thing very good from the warm welcome at reception to the comfortable well kept rooms, nice food and fantastic restaurant manager Carlos.Ideally positioned for the centre of Nerja and the Balcon we highly recommend The Plaza Cavana
