Hotel Petrus - September 2008

26 September 2008
My husband and myself enjoyed our stay at this hotel very much. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Only problem was that when we arrived, at 11.30pm, we could not get a drink, not even a coffee as the hotel restaurant closes at 10. There were no facilities in the room to make a drink and this necessitated a walk into Krakow itself to try to find a shop as there are no real facilities in the vicinity of the hotel. We walked into the city every day and it only took around 30 minutes. The breakfast in this hotel is plentiful, an all you can eat continental style buffet and the evening meals were exceptional value and of good quality. Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone visiting this amazing and very interesting city.

Overall, myself and my daughter enjoyed our stay at this hotel mainly due to the friendly and helpful staff.
Unfortunately, we found the twin-bedded room smaller than expected and extremely warm on a night - without the heating on!  There was a large twin shower room and the shower was refreshing and, as required, quite powerful.  There was also a sauna room but we didn't use this.  However, the extra space used for the double shower and sauna could have been better employed as a proper bathroom instead of the small toilet and tiny hand-basin that was provided.

The decor of the hotel is really nice and it is very clean.  Pity there wasn't a lift (though it is only a smallish hotel) as during our stay, my daughter hurt her ankle and so struggled up the stairs.  It was also a bit of a pain having to carry luggage up and down.

There is not a lot in the way of faclities (no other hotels nearby or bars) around the area though the parkland/woodland was ok but would be nicer in the spring/summer.  It took us 35 to 40 minutes to walk (at a steady pace) into the outskirts of Krakow.  The buses we found (112, 162) didn't take you right into the centre but only up to the roundabout so there was still a 10 minute walk.  A taxi cost you about 30-35 zloty (approx £6.00)- one way.

The restaurant was smallish but well set out and the food enjoyable though the deserts rather limited. Breakfast was ok too.  It would have been nice to have had a lounge area where one could have taken a drink and relaxed.

Clean well-stocked hotel.  Good and helpful staff.  Breakfast unlimited self-service Continental.  Two dinners very enjoyable and good quality with prices about par though on one occasion because of a large group, it did take 40 minutes to be served with main course.

The biggest single disadvantage if, without a car, is distance from old City (about 30 minutes walk - very pleasant though beside River Vistula).  This was not a problem for me as I wanted to explore but might well be if the weather is bad.   There is a tram to centre of town but even that is nearly ten minutes away from the hotel.

I did originally try to get to hotel by public transport instead of taxi but, after getting off tram too early, nobody around seemed to know of small street in which hotel is situated.

So, apart from location which could cause problems for some people, can recommend fairly strongly.

The Petrus Hotel exceeded all expectations.    The rooms were nicely furnished, modern and the staff were friendly, approachable and helpful.  Breakfast was tastey, fresh, plentiful and served in nice surroundings.  The Hotel was a short and  inexpensive taxi ride from the centre of town.  The value for money was exceptional!

Friendly staff, able to arrange tours, taxis etc., 20 minute walk
into town but the surroundings and the peace and quite offered more
than makes up for that. Would reccommend to anyone visiting Poland.

The hotel was run by very friendly and helpfull staff.  It was clean, quiet and comfortable. It is situated about 15 minutes walk from the main square, Taxis cost about 15 PZ for four people to the centre of town.  We would all recommend this hotel.
