Perla in Nerja

17 June 2008
We stayed in the Perla early June. The reception staff are excellant. Just circle the block a few times to find parking. The food for breakfast not great. A visit to the village of Frigliana and the caves is a must. The area is safe however we were sitting outside a restuarant opposite the Riu hotel on the road at the back of the hotel and a customer had his bag snatched, with passport ,c.cards etc as he was having a meal. But don't let this put you off it can happen any where, just be on your guard. There is an excellant market every Tuesday just around the corner from the Hotel. Good value for the price.

This is my second visit to the Perla Marina. This time with my mum and daughter. Age range 73,51,25. We stayed for bed & breakfast and it presents great value for money. The rooms are spacious and clean;breakfast is plentiful;the pool area although small is idyllic as it overlooks the sea. It is about 15mins walk into the centre of Nerja and there is a wide variety of choice of restaurants. Nerja is quieter than normal. All in all a lovely hotel and I would recommend it.

Not a 4 star, more of a 2 to 3 star, but still good value. We were b and b,but if room only was available we would have taken that. After a few days,we started going to a cafe for breakfast as the breakfasts were slightly better than rubbish.

We stayed for 9 nights of which the last two were joined by our daughter. We upgradede immediately on arrival to sea view for €15 per night which was worth it. Considering we are vegetarians, the breafast was good, had in their apartments restaurant opposite which can also be accessed via a subway from the beach building. The reception staff were very helpful. We parked easily on the streets in the vicinity -2-3 minutes away. The terrace pool on the opposite building was not open - only opens in July - however we were mainly doing our outings to explore the east Costa Del Sol for which the car hire is a must - we covered the mountain villages including pretty Frigiliana to the Nerja caves - a must and upto Granada - all tourist offices were helpful to sort out best around to see - including Almunecar aptly in the 'Costa Tropical' where we visited the municipal market for yummy custard apples! In the street parallel the hotel's were fabulous pizza restaurants plus a chinese and Indian or one could walk to town in 10 minutes for this and the balcony de europa for a fabulous view of the coast and the Med sea. Would definitely visit it again.

Lovely stay

15 April 2008
Hi, Just back from Hotel Perla, we were there for a wedding, there were 150 of us. We had a lovely time. The hotel was nice, some of the rooms were small but very clean with rooms being cleaned every day. We were treated very well the day of the wedding plenty of food and drink, the staff were very good to us. We only had breakfast which was good plenty to eat. The location was great quiet but within walking distance of everything.

We stayed at the Perla Marina for 2 nights in early April. We had a nice, comfortable room, and it is certainly worth paying a little extra for the sea-view. Easy parking near to the hotel, and friendly, efficient staff. All in all, very good value for money!

Perla Marina in April

05 April 2008
Overall this is a lovely hotel, good location overlooking the water and a slow 15 mnute walk to the centre. One hidden danger with the hotel is the marble flooring in the reception area, bar etc. Although it looks stunning it was very slippy depending what footwear you were wearing. My wife slipped on the stairs leading to the bar and sustained bad bruising to an arm & leg. The staff were very helpful but didn't even appear to have a basic first aid kit which was dissappointing. This shouldn't detract anyone from staying here as it is a good hotel with friendly and helpful staff. We were only bed & breakfast and even though it was the same every morning there was a good choice food for the price paid. The only real dis-appointments were the condition of the beach at the hotel and noise of the plumbing from nearby rooms. Nerja itself has everything you would want to have an enjoyable holiday, plenty bars/restaurants, good shops and friendly people.

Lovely hotel with very friendly staff nice rooms and bar area. its located just on the beach and a short walk to the centre of town.the pool area gets the sun all day with it over looking the sea.We had a very nice 5 day stay for our first visit to the hotel and we will be returning in the future.we would recommend it to somebody looking for a relaxing holiday or those looking for more with the short walk to the town and many bars

ex-pats on holiday

31 March 2008
The hotel is very well situated, close to the beach, walks along the promenade and the centre of both the old and new parts of Nerja, although it is uphill to the town, those who are challenged by uphill walking could take a taxi. The hotel is generally clean and well managed with pleasant and bi- lingual staff. It is rated as a 4 star but would compare more to a 3 star in UK. As with a lot of Spanish accomodation the noise level from other guests is significant, even if they are being quiet, this should not ruin your stay though, but can be troublesome. I should add that we stay there quite regularly as we visit friends in Nerja. The main problem with the Hotel, as is a theme in these reports, is that the food is of variable quality, and generally not very hot. It seems that even though we comment on this on every visit, as I am sure do others, nothing changes. This is a great shame as for us it is the only the stain on a very pleasant place to stay. With all of the above said we will be staying there in the future, we hope that this will be helpful to you in determinig where to stay.

We stayed here in March as we had a wedding. We paid for a seaview and it was well worth it. a beautiful view, the weather was up in the 20's and very sunny and warn towards the last few days of the holiday! Its only a 10min walk into Nerja and the lovely balcon of Europe. Nerja is a lovely place and we will definately be back. The bars were very quiet but thats what we were looking for. The breakfast in the morning was basic enough but it did have lots of nice breads and your normal frys etc. the rooms were nice also and cleaned every day.

Winter Break in Nerja

28 February 2008
The hotel is well located right on the sea in a quiet area but an easy walk to central Nerja. The rooms were comfortable and very clean and it is well worth paying for a sea view. The staf were amiable and very helpful. The food however was very ordinary and evening meals are not good value compared with the many restaurants in central Nerja. Only problems were erratic hot water and bad weather (which washed some of the beach away).

A well laid out, clean, pleasent hotel with lovely sea views (well worth paying extra for) situated right on the beach and near the town centre. We felt that the breakfast could have been better although the waiters were very efficient. We were disappointed that we had requested a high floor but were not given one even though there were clearly rooms available.

What a lovely hotel

25 February 2008
The Perla Marina was a joy to stay in. The staff are very friendly, very helpful and they speak good English. The breakfast buffet has a great choice, you couldn't ask for anything else. The hotel has a lovely garden area with an outdoor pool and a great long beach walk way right outside the door. This hotel is so nice we've decided to have our wedding reception here. We're getting married in Frigiliana village and out of the entire hotel's we looked at, the Perla Marina the friendliest and nicest. I would recommend this hotel for any length of stay.

Relaxing Winter break at Perla Marina

14 November 2007
This hotel is perfect for a quiet and restfull holiday. We enjoyed our stay and would go back again. The restaurant was good with very attentive staff and serving the type of food you would expect to be served with in Spain. The layout of the hotel is excellent with lots of quiet areas to relax in. If you want to shop in Nerja the centre is a very short distance away. There are lots of good "real" spanish Tapas bars in Nerja and we enjoyed a few of them!

Very nice place to stay in Nerja!

15 June 2007
My wife and I had a very pleasant stay in Perla Marina in the end of April. Perfect location by the beach and just 12 minutes walk from the Balcon de Europa, the heart of Nerja. Quiet surroundings, very little traffic. Terrific view to the sea and very relaxing sound of the waves softly hitting the beach. Very kind and helpful staff both in reception and in breakfast room. The breakfast buffet offered a very wide selection of delicious food and drinks. Parking the car in the basement parking lot was rather expensive (10 euros per night), but parking space in the street outside was available most of the time. The only thing we missed was information (at the hotel website, and from the reception) about the roof pool in the annex building (where we stayed) being closed, and a sign telling the water temperature (and opening time) of the front pool. But although the water was rather coldish both in the pool and in the sea, we northerners enjoyed it anyway!

Very nice hotel, friendly staff, close to sea 50yds. We had a sea view [third floor].the breakfast was good [bacon Spanish style,] dinner we had once, not to be recommended, cold and dry.
Rooms cleaned to perfection , entertainment on three nights, but Nerja is not a place where you want to stay in your hotel unless you have no choice [ children etc], the beach was pebbley but sand was being introduced whilst we were there, so I think it could be magic for the kids, beach side accommodation available.Wish we were still there can,t say more than that.

The hotel is situated right on the beach with its own access. Its approx. 10 mins walk from the Balcon and all the fine restaurants. At the same time the hotel is in a quite area. The accomodation is very good and the staff are very helpful and friendly. Parking (Free) is available all around the hotel.

If visiting Nerja again I would have no hesitation in staying at the Perla Marina again.

booked this hotal for my parents in law. aged 82 years. for the first time in an aeroplane, for the first time in nerja. They had a very good time. The room was lovely and the food really godd. The spot is beautifull. Near the beach, so they didn't had to walk far. The only thing is that al form are written in Englisch, German and French but no Dutch. And if you are so old, then mostly you speak no other langues then your own. But they had a very nice time and have plans to come back.

just got back having stayed 15 nights at the perla marina, payed extra for a sea view room, was well worth it, right on the front, room a bit small but very clean, and the best shower i have ever had, pool ok, but too small for the newly extended hotel, there was another pool on top of the new building, but that was closed, i think there was only 20 sunbeds around the pool, but quite a few in the garden, but most were taken, only noise in room at night was the sea, breakfast was great, stayed here 3 years ago, and would stay again.

Review of 'Perla Marina'

18 September 2006
The hotel itself was great, with a lovely if small pool area. The pool area and terrace go straight onto the beach and it is fantastic to have the sea so close.
There is a large garden area with loads more sunbeds so there was plenty of space for everyone.

Our room was pretty big and very clean, although we didn't have a balcony or sea view (our fault though for not booking one!!) but it didn't matter as we sat by the pool until early evening, with the pool area keeping the sun until late.  The room had everything we needed.

The breakfast was good - plenty of food for everyone, and a real mix from fruit, croissants, bread, cheese, hams and a full cooked english breakfast.

The only downside was that our room seemed to be very noisy - although i think that was because we were on the first floor quite close to reception and the staircase.  The area itself if nice and peaceful.

All in all a great choice.

The hotel is on the quiet western side of town just 10 mins walk from the centre. However plenty of nice local shops and good restaurants in the vicinity. The pizzeria round the corner does a great take away (hungry teenagers) for lunch for less than 5e. We were in the annex over the road reached thru the underground link. Very nice large room with a good sized balcony, spotlessly clean. Breakfast good and the one evening meal we had there was also very good (local andalusia fare)and good value. Pool and garden terrace were small with attached snack bar (might be crowded when the hotel is full). Attentive service all the staff are friendly and helpful. Worth 4* but not modern/chain and has rustic spanish feel. No t& coffee making facilities in room tho.

In Nerja.  The Hotel is excellent.  Probably one of the best in Nerja.  I think just upgraded to 4  stars.  Rooms very good.  Breakfast excellent.  Multilingual staff are polite and helpful, and let you get on with your vacation.
Location is a big plus as it is close to beach and a little walk to the centre of town, but you do not have the noise.  Benefits from being in a one-way street that loops.  So very little unnecessary traffic.
We had booked one double with balcony; and one twin without balcony.  Got a double without balcony and one twin with balcony.  C'est la vie.
The one shortfall is parking.  But that is not hotel-specific; it is all of Nerja.  Hotel car park is 10 Euros a day, if there is space.  So look to park elsewhere- seemingly safely for nothing, perhaps 2 or 3 blocks away.  Another alternative is look for the off-road route just before reaching the hotel to park some 200 metres from the beach (honest!).
Huge recommend.

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Perla Marina for 10 days in July on a B&B basis. the hotel is in 2 parts, the original building overlooked the sea at the rear, with the newer building situated across a quiet road.We had a sea view at the back of the main building It was a little jaded but clean and the air conditioning did not work very well. The hotel attracted many Spanish guests, particularly at the weekend. Breakfast is buffet style and surprisingly good. The snack bar was very good value for money and the food excellent quality.  All of the staff were friendly and helpfull. Gardens were small but well kept, and adjoined the beach which was very stoney. Swimming pool was small for a large hotel and was very crowded when we were there. The hotel supplied free sunbeds around the pool and in the garden. The location of the hotel is a good 15 minute walk from the centre of Nerja but there are a number of bars and restaurants near by (some better than others!) Overall we enjoyed our stay, but Nerja has become a very busy place and is losing a lot of its charm.  July 2006

A very nice hotel on two sites, with an underground link, or a walk across the road.  Adjacent to one of Nerja's beaches, not the best, but only a short walk from the Torecilla Beach, which is lovely. The rooms are well furnished - sea views cost extra but are worth the expense.  Food is excellent, with plenty of choice.  The staff were all very helpful and eager to please. The outdoor pool is rather small, but sea bathing is a good alternative.  Sun loungers were in short supply, but space was at a premium and loungers could be hired on the beaches for 3.5 euros a day. I would certainly recommend this hotel and Nerja itself is one of our all time favourites.

Third time at the Perla Marina, but first since the new extension opened (across the small road on which the Hotel is located). We'd booked a sea view and disappointed to find we were accomodated in the new part but soon changed our minds. Okay, we overlooked the low rise apartments but still only 30-40 metres from the sea and everything was to the highest standard. The new dining room was excellent and breakfast was as good as anywhere. Disappointed that the roof pool was not ready and no obvious activity to finish it. The staff were very friendly and accomodating but some would benefit from some training in basic English. All in all they deserve their recent elevation to 4 stars.

Myyy wife & I have just returned from a week at the Hotel Perla Marina in Nerja.  The accommodation is of acceptable standard for a 3 star property - fairly simple but each room has a fridge and satellite TV.  The rooms are cleaned daily as are towels etc and the whole place appears to be clean and tidy.  There is a small pool with a fairly limited amount of sunbeds but there is a large terrace with chairs and tables outside the pool bar.  Breakfast is buffet style with plenty of choice and is served until 10.30.  All in all, for the price we paid per night (less than £45 per night inclusive of breakfast!), the Perla Marina can't be faulted.

We stayed only one (Saturday) night here.  We arrived around 4pm and were lucky to get one of the few underground parking spots (an extra 10 Euros).  Parking is available on the street, but it is packed solid -especially on the weekends we were told.  We were there at the end of March, before the true high season arrives.  Our room was very small on the first floor, overlooking the driveway to the parking garage and the street.  This was the most noisy room I have stayed in.  There were people partying in the streets 'til 4 am.  The garbage truck came by at 3 am.  The driver was yelling a story to the worker!  The beach here is covered in rocks/stones.  The next beach over is lovely.  There are lots of restaurants in the area and we enjoyed a nice dinner.  The breakfast with the hotel was quite good.

My husband and myself joined a group of friends in september 05 and stayed at the Perla Marina bed and breakfast for a three day break.

We stayed in the block opposite the main site.  The hotel was immaculate, the rooms were clean with a balcony and beautiful sea views. All staff were very accomodating and friendly, there was a vast variety of food for breakfast. The hotel is situated on the beach with use of all amenities.

Nerja centre is just a fifteen minute walk away with plenty of traditional restaurants and excellent cuisine. The setting for friends couldn't have been more perfect.  We are looking for a venue for our next reunion and Nerja so far is at the top of the list for the convienance of the traditional settings and perfect accommodation.  The Perla Marina ticks all the boxes.

13 September 2005
We stayed at the Perla Marina for two nights, and could not fault it in any way; We were greeted by Richard, am Englishman who had lived in Nerja for 22 years (so obviously liked it!!); he and the other reception staff could not do enough to help, and although we had booked only a double room, we were given a junior suite (4th/top floor with a small lounge area and a private balcony with sunbeds, table and chairs, overlooking the sea).Breakfast offered a huge choice, and the hotel was four star in every respect. It was a comfortable stroll to the centre and the Balcon d'Europa, where there is a wonderful atmosphere day or night (but particularly night!).

When we came to check out (12 midday) from our all too short stay, we were able to leave our luggage in a secure room behind reception (our flight wasn't scheduled until 20-25) and later, having enjoyed Nerja some more, we were able to freshen up in one of three courtesy shower rooms.

If there is a problem, it would be with parking; the hotel has a n underground car park, but it's tricky to get in and out of and spaces are at a real premium - the better option is to find a space on the road; we had no real problem with it, and the car was never more than two or three minutes away, but it's just something to be aware of; it most certainly would not stop us staying there again.

We are planning a weeks break at the moment, and after staying at the Perla Marina in sept 03, it is one of our first choices for a return visit.

The hotel itself is fairly small and had a nice spanish feel to it. All staff were friendly and helpfull. There was a library on the 2nd floor (hundreds of books and games) with lovely big sofas and chairs - nice to hide out from the sun for a while!.
Our room was a little disappointing. We were expecting a sea view and balcony and instead got a building site view and a bit of noise (not warned by agents of building work in area). As we were out and about most days, it was not too much of a problem. The room was very clean and air conditioned which was bliss!.

We were staying half board which included dinner and breakfast. The food was good (not great), and plenty to choose from. No upset stomachs which is always a good sign!!!!.

The hotel was in the perfect location for us - right on the beach, and a 5/10 minute walk to bars, restaurants, supermarkets, shops etc. 15 min walk and your right in the centre of Nerja, which is beautifull at any time of the day. Narrow winding streets with traditional spanish houses and lots of little shops (not selling the usual tat!). Not one 'tout' in site trying to pour booze down your throat. Instead a huge range of eateries and bars, none of which we visited could be faulted.

To sum up, a fantastic resort and hotel if your looking for a relaxing holiday but with plenty to see and do should you so wish. Our only gripe was the building work we had not been warned about which brought my overall score of the Perla Marina down from a 5 to a 4. Will hopefully be returning very soon x
