3 day at Papagayo Arena

29 June 2008
Did short 3 day stay to visit family at this fantastic hotel. Fab sea view large room. Very big hotel but easy to get around. Amazing location, bit of a walk to papagayo beaches, but worth it. Wide promenade will take you past Rubicon Marina to Playa Blanca - about 45 min walk but courtesy bus available and taxis are cheap. Reception staff sort your every need. Excellent variety of food, you wll not go hungry - if dont fancy lunch - use snacks - pizza, burgers chips, cake etc. Food freshly cooked everywhere. Note you pay for drinks at bars after 11 pm but beer, wine and soft drinks are available free from this time to 8 am in snack bar. Hotel can appear very busy, but loads of space, no prob with sunbeds. Would definately go back. Entertainment can be a bit kiddy based, but no worries as plenty of places to sit and enjoy views etc. Families would be well placed here, drinks, ice cream, slush puppies on tap all day. This hotel has it all for everyone in my opinion.

Everthing at this Hotel is excellent, All the rooms have pool and/or the sea view. The food is of good quality and variety. The hotel cleanliness is second to none as your can see staff cleaning all day everyday. The only down sides to the hotel are the location (about 30 min walk into Playa Blanca and no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. The all inclusive aspect to the hotel is 24hrs although you do have to change bars though the day and after eleven PM you can drink in the snack bar which serves fizzy drinks beer and wine. The entertainment team are very busy doing differant activities with adults and older children, although the childrens club tend to be for six and under. All in all you can't go wrong at this hotel we had a great stay.

Relaxing Time

25 February 2008
We wanted a holiday that was relaxing and were not disappointed. We were very impressed with the hotel on arrival because I had emailled the hotel prior to our trip to arrange a bottle of bubbly as it was Valentines Day when we arrived. After seeing the size of the place I wasnt sure our wish would be accomodated, but I was wrong. (It put me in the good books!). Champagne in an ice bucket with glasses waiting as we walked in the room. Thee were only a couple of downsides (i) No tea or coffee making facilities in the room (although it didnt say there would be in the brochure). (ii) The restaurant was very big and noisy if you went in early in the evening and it felt like a canteen. But be leaving it until an hour later the restaurant was quieter and much more relaxing. The variety of food was very good and you could cross between the main buffet and the Italian buffet if you wanted. The Chinese was disappointing though. I did find the bed a bit hard in the room but it did not detract from a great holiday. There were plenty of sunbeds and the queues at the bars were not very long. All in all a nice hotel with plenty of facilities and a great place to relax and unwind.

Volcanos past & present

18 February 2008
There wasn't a drainage system. When it rains in Lanzarote, it throws it down & their idea of drainage was to let the water run off on to the balcony below. The hotel was a bit dusty, the beds hard & the maids were a bit strange! All the other staff were fantastic. However, we were spared the standard Spanish deathtrap bath - you could get out using the handles. There were lots of swimming pools, unfortunately, loads of kids with rubber dinghies. The pools had too much chlorox in them but the rooms didn't have enough in the air conditioning. The mini-golf was in serious need of repair. The facilities for children were good & there were plenty of them. We rented a car, & visited Timanfaya, El Golfo & Puerto Calero - all well worthwhile, fantastic scenery.

Restful holiday

17 December 2007
My husband and I wanted a relaxing holiday away from it all and we found it at the Papagayos Arena. Our first impression was of a lovely, clean hotel in a very nice setting overlooking the sea. Friends had recommended the Playa Blanca area and they were right - we toured the island by hired car and thought we had chosen well. The room allocated was spacious and clean but the bilious green wall was very offputting. Also, despite a lovely large bed it was very hard. The food was plentiful and varied and we dined mostly in the international restaurant. We never saw anyone use the French Restaurant at all (this had to be booked as had the Chinese. We tried it once but it was very mediocre. The snack grill bar was very useful and the service in the bars was first class. All the staff were kind and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The jacuzzis were clean and popular but the water could have been hotter, same with steam room - too cold. The sauna was fine. The evening entertainment was varied and the staff worked very hard to put on a good show. All in all, we would return to the same hotel but I don't think I would go in a busy period. There were a lot of Spanish people there and a sprinkling of English and German. Everyone was very friendly and it is definitely a family hotel as we saw lots of young children and babies. M. Great Holiday

01 October 2007
We stayed in this hotel beginning of August, 2006 with our 3 young children aged between 6 and 1. We stayed in a junior suite which was very spacious, including the large bathroom which the children loved because of the corner jacuzzi bath! There are a number of pools to choose from, although you do have to go down early to get a bed, but during the school holiday, i would expect to. The food was good and plentiful, although the restaurant was very busy. I would say going to dinner earlier would be better. It's a wonderful 20 minute walk to the marina and a free shuttle bus to the nearest sandy beech. The evening entertainment wasn't great, the children's disco only being a stage for them to run around on, no supporvised dancing as you would expect and i would have liked to see it run in a bigger area with more seating and space available. However, this is a failry minor complaint as the rest of the holiday was super. Which is why we are returning in a few weeks time, and can't wait.

Disappointed

19 September 2007
We have just returned from our 2 week holiday to the Papagayo Arena Hotel in August 2007. We are a family of 5 and had two rooms which unfortunately were not next to each other. We asked to move and were point blank refused because the hotel was busy. Hardly our fault!! The beds in the rooms were hard and my husband ended up on the sofa bed as it was slightly more comfortable. Hardly what you would call 4 star luxury. The hotel was very busy and you had to get up early if you wanted a sun lounger round the pool. The restaurants were always busy and breakfast was the worst. Often when we got there, there were no crockery or cutlery left - or it was hot having just come out of the dishwasher? By the second week the food had become very monotonous. Our youngest child enjoyed the kids club which ran for a few hours each day. But my teenage sons were a bit bored as there wasn't much going on for their age group except a game of football each day at noon (in the blazing sun). All in all we were disappointed with the hotel.

Excellent

17 July 2007
We have just returned from our 9 day holiday and really loved this hotel. The room was spacious and clean and we really liked our balcony with sea view. The 'lava' beach was liturally right in front of the hotel and provides excellent snorkeling. The golden sand beach (Papagayo) is within easy walking distance. The staff are friendly and efficient. The excursions booked via the hotel were brilliant and reliable. The constant supply of food and drinks were much appreciated, as it didn't tie us down to specific meal times. The hotel offers excellent fascilities which catered for our 9 year old as well as our teenager. The hotel offers regular bus shuttles to and from the busy Playa Blanca centre but we actually enjoyed the 20 minutes walk to Marina Rubicon which has a super market every Wednesday and Saturday. We would most definitely stay at this hotel again.

Fantastic Value & Excellent Facilities

06 May 2007
We have just booked to go back to this fantastic hotel for the 3rd summer running. The facilities are amazing for a young family, the kids can get drinks and ice cream anytime they want, go to the "Mini Club" and have their own disco in the evenings. The food was extremely good value. The food was always plentyful and there was plenty of choice. We can wait to go back!!!

Excellent hotel for a family

27 February 2007
We have just returned from a week at the Papgayo Arena with our two children and thoroughly enjoyed our time at this well run hotel. We booked two rooms next door to each other which were extremely spacious and had the most wonderful views over to Fuerteventura. This was the first time we have allowed our teenage son to stay in a room on his own and he loved the independece and we enjoyed the respite from bickering with his sister.
Overall the food was excellent, lunchtime was a particular bonus as the restaurant was very quiet and you could enjoy your meal at leisure. Evening meals did prove a little hectic at times but we were staying during half term, so you couldn't expect anything less.
Sometimes all inclusives can be a nightmare but this hotel is certainly one to recommend to family and friends. The view from the Canarian bar was amazing and the choice of drinks superb. The entertainment was alright but nothing spectacular, however this is a small criticism as we were delighted with all other aspects of this holiday.
The Papagayo Arena is out of the way but we liked the fact that you could simply chill out and enjoy the surroundings. You could also walk to the Papagyo beach and Marina Rubicon if you felt you wanted a change of scene.
We will more than likely revisit in the not too distant future.

Very nice hotel 5++
Wonderful view from the room. Very good food in the restaurant. There were something for everyone: vegeterians, meatlovers etc..
The entertainment was great - dancers from Ghana, Magic, Karaoke, Mr Tequila, Mini-Disco for the children.

Many pools to choose between, spa, playarea for the childen, nice bars, food 24 hours, disco in the night for the whole family if you so wishes.

Beautiful beaches in walking distance from the hotel.
I would recommend it to couples, families who would like to have a holiday with everything where you can relax to 100%.

Review of 'PAPAGAYO ARENA'

12 April 2006
A very new hotel right on the outskirts of Playa Blanca.  It was really rather remote and much of the surrounding area is a building site.  The resort centre was a brisk 50 minutes away.  No beach as such but a stunning unspoilt beach about twenty minutes walk across the picon.  The hotel had very good outdoor facilities, lots of sun bathing areas and a reasonably heated pool (end of March)Rooms very spacious and well designed.  We were all-inclusive and found that everything needed was available but that it was not necessarily of a high quality.  Food was very ordinary, little imagination and worked on the basis of quantity rather than quality.  Entertainment was regular. It was OK, but for the money we felt that Lanzarote offers better bets than this.

Review of 'PAPAGAYO ARENA'

07 April 2006
An excellent 4* hotel complex for a week away with a young family.

We have just returned (6th April 2006) from a wonderful week on an all inclusive basis. The food and drink was lovely with a huge variety of choice meaning there was always something different to choose.

Staff were extremely attentive, and the whole complex was kept immaculately clean - the maids kept the rooms spotless (not easy when they are dealing with me, my wife, and our 6 & 4 year old girls).

Large choice of swimming pools and plenty of sunbeds so no crowding, although the majority of the pools were cold (but nice after the mid-80s sun at the end of March).

Our girls loved the kids club, and the entertainment in the evening (although the adult entertainment left a little to be desired).

The beds were rather hard, and the chairs in the entertainment centre not very comfortable; however these are minor gripes with what was otherwise an excellent hotel.

The views from the rooms are lovely - most are sea facing with views over to Fuerteventura - and sitting on the balcony listening to the sound of the sea lapping against the shore was lovely.

I would also recommend getting a car and travelling the island to find some truly beautiful sandy beaches (although there is a rocky beach right in front of the hotel).

All in all a wonderful week away relaxing for a young family which I would recommend to anyone.

great hotel for a week of drop out 4**** luxury. Room big and well serviced with towels/toiletries etc daily. food superb, a wide range of dishes (buffet style) fresh, unique and fresh (renewed and rotated regularly). On all inclusive basis although didnt feel like you were restricted byb usual AI restrictions (ie times/drinks/etc).

very welcoming of families in all areas of hotel and great location just out of playa blanca but near to papagayo beaches (some naturists!)and rubicon marina (posh).

would definitely return although 1 week ideal for indulgent getaway.

Food and beer/wine were superb - a very pleasant surprise.
Hotel public areas, rooms, health spa were spotless.
Atmostphere was very relaxed.
Entertainment was well - it wasn't Las Vegas.

Cannot recommend this hotel enough. Would go back tommorrow.
The hotel beach is a little stoney but we went to the Papagayo beaches almost every day (10 min walk) which were wonderful - pack a lunch and stay the day. Snorkelling is very good - get in at the hotel beach and head along the cliff towards the martello tower. Also the Rubicon Marina a short walk is well worth a trip for lunch in one of the marina restaurants and a little shopping afterwards.

Thoroughly enjoyed our week long stay here. We stayed on an all-inclusive basis and cannot fault the restaurants and bars in this hotel.  Wonderful menu choice at every meal, good quality beers, wines and spirits at the bars.  The staff are very attentive and cannot do more for you.  Huge pool areas which are kept spotless. Different entertainment every night of the week means there is something for everyone.  Definitely plan to return to the Papagayo Arena very soon.
