Family holiday
14 July 2008
Our first time in Palamos, would of been ok if just adults, we had 2 teenagers who thought Bournemouth would be more exciting. Not any real nightlife but plenty of eating establishments all with the same menu !!! Oh yeah the crepes were fantastic if you have a sweet tooth.
As for the hotel - self catering equipment available was very poor & scarce, no oven, toaster, kettle or grill available, had to cook with only 2 hobs. Overall it was clean with fresh towels 3 times in the week but no more cleaning done in apartment or rubbish bins emptied. For entertainment you have to visit Platja D'aro approx 15 min bus ride, which provides good nightlife for all ages and the food/drink is cheaper. We discovered The Irish Bar on its opening night, Tina and her husband were great hosts providing fabulous service and good conversation.
Most things in whole area are expensive compared to Costa's further south.
Can coke approx 2.50 euros, and 2 vodka cokes in the hotel 12 euros (£10) !!
Transfers from Girona Airport difficult, we used local taxi at 55euro each way for four passengers.

long weekend
12 June 2008
We know Palamos very well and wanted to re visit for a long weekend. We thought that the hotel would be cheap and cheerful, but better than the camp site.We were happily pleased ,the room was clean and had new curtains and bed covers. There was no kitchen euipment but we we not there to cook anyway, and bought some plastic cups etc.We weren't bothered about breakfast but went twice,it was fine ,just what you would get in a local bar.We think it would be a great relaxing place to take children as the facilities are good for them and it's so close to the beach.Palamos is a lovely Catalan fishing town with a real Spanish atmosphere, the fishing boats come into port at 5p.m. every weekday evening and the fish is auctioned off.The beaches are blue flag and you can walk the whole length of the bay taking in the unspoilt resorts of San Antoni De Calonge and Torre Valentina. This is the real Spain where Barcelonians have their holiday retreats. There are boat trips from San Antoni to Tossa De Mar calling at some lovely resorts on the way.We think it's a great budget hotel, you get what you pay for, but in this case I would say you get more.

Excellent value
12 June 2008
We paid €195 for one week, no food included. For that we had a clean, tidy, studio apartment with everything we needed. We had planned not to cook, so the low level of equipment in the kitchen wasn't an issue, but I am sure more could have been provided. The furniture is old and has been repaired, but on the other hand the pool is excellent, although it is outdoors, contrary to what an earlier reviewer suggested. The staff were friendly and helpful. We have visited the area twice before, so we knew that Palamos is a really nice town, and the hotel gave us a great base. A brisk ten-minute walk into the main part of town, which may be an issue for older people, but it is a flat walk with lots of benches en-route. Be aware that the rating I have given is based on that very low price: I wouldn't give it 5 stars for the €300 I saw on some sites for the same place.

Cheap and clean
12 September 2007
Probably a little generous giving The Palamos a 4 rating but then again I'm remembering how cheap it was. Clean, Air Con, friendly staff, nice pool and even 2 jacuzzis even a 6 lane bowling alley at 5 euros a game. There was also a very impressive gym but I didn't have the energy to find out what it cost to use. Unfortunately half of the Hotel (it is split into 2 blocks) was being refurbished and I'm guessing they will be doing the remainder once that side is completed. That will make this Hotel a really good place to stay but I would think the price will go up. Loved the town - not many English so the cost of food and drink still very reasonable.

Stayed here for 5 nights on a golf holiday. For the price (£10 pppn) there can be no complaints. Rooms are basic but very clean and the maid was in every day with clean towels etc. There is not one item of cutlery in the kitchen area but we had no plans to cook and the fridge stored the beer well enough!! Staff are friendly but had as much English as we had Spanish. Breakfast was buffet style and well edible (coffee is excellent). Never tried the pool but it looked fine (albeit a bit strange as its indoors!!) We arrived in the middle of a Spanish holiday so Palamos was like a ghost town until out last night when it brightened up considerably. The Hotel is about 10 mins from the main bars / restaurants and about 3 mins from the beach. be careful where you park as our hire car was scraped twice in the first 2 days. The safest area for parking seemed to be next to the beach. Location for golf courses was excellent (Emporda, Pals, PGA and Mas Nou all close by).

We stayed here June 2005 we used it for a 10 day stay the accommodation was very clean the kitchen had basic equipment we were quite surprised as we thought it might be a bit run down as it was so cheap it was very convenient for us as we were going to the MotoGP at cicuit de cataluya just a short drive away the restaurant ran a buffet style evening meal which was good value the town and local bars and restaurant's were smashing great so much better than camping on rough ground with no WC near the race circuit

The staff did not clean the room properly. The bath was filthy the entire stay. There were no plates cups knives forks ect. The staff were not at all helpful or friendly. There was a concert playing next door at the skate rink, which went on till past 1am.
However the view was amazing I enjoyed the pool. The breakfust was good and it was very close to the beach.

These apartments are definitely in need of some external maintenance. They look like thay were built in the 1960's and have had little done to them since. The apartments on level 1 in A block have not been used for some time looking at the rubbish that has accumulated on the patios. The room we had (2'nd floor) was clean and tidy but on arrival had no towels and not a single item of kitchen equipment. We got towels from reception and the kitchen utensils arrived a day later. There is a good sized swimming pool, 2 jacuzzi's and a small splash pool for younger guests. There a plenty of sun loungers on a large patio. The cafe in the building served reasonably priced drinks & snacks. There was some noise until around 2pm from the cocktail bar. It is well placed for the superb beach, not too far from the supermarket and is a 5 minute stroll along the sea front to the old town with it's numerous restaurant & bars which cater for all tastes and pockets. All in all not too bad, but if returning to Palamos we would try somehere else.

Review of 'PALAMOS'

When I read some reviews here, I was scared that we would end up in some kind of dump. But the hotel was very clean, the personnel was very nice and helpful and spoke 100% more English than the rest of the people in Palamos/Catalunya. The amount of cutlery, pans etc. was very satisfactory too. We even twice got another room to our dispose because we thought something was wrong with our hot water (later we realized it was our own fault and they never made a fuss about it). For this price (approx. 7,50 pppn excl. breakfast) I say its the best budget location I ever stayed. There is no luxury, but if you don't need it, you will have a perfect location.

25 September 2005
We only booked to stay one night at this Aparthotel which was fortunate. Our room was clean but was very tatty, there was no cutlery or crockery or kettle, only 3 wine glasses and a large old pan with a lid. The refigerator had a rusty hole in the door, the icebox was frozen up and was unusable and the thing had to be switched off at 3am as the racket it was making was unbearable. On the plus side the breakfast was acceptable and my 2 and 3 year old children enjoyed an hour in the play area. The whole place is a tired relic from the 1970/80`s, but with not to much investment it could be ok. If you`ve arrived from Girona on a late Ryanair flight and just need a place for your head it`ll do, but no more than that. It was cheap but not very cheerfull .

Hotel was basic and a little tired it lacked the comfort that you would expect being a hotel, it was of course very cheap. We were grateful to back home to the comfort of a real bed and proper surroundings if you just want a place to rest your head it is fine - but apart from that dont expect much. Palamos and the area is very nice.

Review of 'PALAMOS'
24 July 2005
Well I have just got round to doing my review, and have just read reviews from other guests at the Palamos. Don't believe what these people have said ! These people have obviously never stayed in Spain before, the apart/hotel was a typical 1970's block. Yes the facilities were basic but the cost of staying there was very cheap. We opted for full-board which only cost an extra £28 for 7 nights. The food was traditional Spanish/Catalan food. Palamos is a working fishing port so there was fresh fish on the menu every day at lunch and dinner. Breakfast was also traditional - hams, cheese, large croisants, rolls, jam, toast even egg & bacon on some days if you like that sort of thing. The beach was a very short walk away and the town / bus station 6 mins walk. The town itself was very clean, tidy, no Brits, plenty of vacating Spanish and French. Well worth a visit and a good base to visit the local coastline.

Review of 'PALAMOS'
17 July 2005
The hotel is not exceptional. It is a typical 70s construction, dating back to the unfortunate era of the urbanisation of the Spanish coastline. As many have noted below, the rooms are very basic, badly need renovation (don't be misled by the pictures) and not very well equipped - there was no kettle and no hairdryer. It is not a beachfront hotel, you've got to walk some 100 metres to the beach. The walk is not pleasant, the area is shabby and a construction site was nearby (in July 2005). We had B&B accommodation and the quality of breakfast was utterly unsatisfactory - we could not bring ourselves to drink acidic juice from concentrate or to eat unhealthy-looking ham and cheese. The choice was extremely limited. On balance, I would prefer a different hotel the next time I travel to this area of Spain.

Review of 'PALAMOS'

This hotel left a lot to be desired. I was under the impression that I had rented an Apartment with a kitchenette. Yes it did have a kitchenette but this did not include so much as a spoon or knife and fork let alone plates cups saucepans Kettle etc. When i asked reception about this they were quite happy to fob me off with an explanation of " you rented a room and not an apartment". Receiving phone calls became a task in itself as receptionists took about 3 or 4 times to put the call through to the right room. I would consider this place more of a drop in centre than a hotel and am bemused as to how it got a *** rating. I will NOT be recommending this place to friends but I WILL be recommending it to a few enemies :D

Review of 'PALAMOS'
11 June 2005
Hotel very basic but clean and remarkable value. However as it is self catering we were shocked that essentials were missing. No kettle(had to use a pan to boil water), no toaster, and no tin opener. At night there was an annoying mechanical noise which went on for approx 30 seconds then would stop for 20 then restart. This continued through the night and was extremely irritating. Beach a stones throw away and very quiet. Magic. Town a short walk with many shops and restaurants. Food offered same in most places, nice, but hope you like chips. Platja d aro is a short ride along coast and has many more shops and restaurants and has fairground for little ones. Overall a pleasant area to spend time relaxing and enjoying the Catalunian way of life.

The hotel was exceptional value for money. The rooms were basic, but clean. Maid service daily, and the staff were remarkably helpful. Sun terrace was rather untidy, with litter left to accumulate, but overall the hotel was super. Location - short walk to centre of town, which was very Catalonian. Mainly French tourists, lots of beautiful bars and restaurants, and thankfully no English/Irish/Scottish bars to be found! Great local market held on Tuesdays. All in all, and lovely place to get to know Catalonia, and its lovely people.
