Quietest hotel in Krakow

03 August 2008
Excellent value for money. Very clean and the staff were very helpful - all spoke basic English. The room was really only a 3 star but the beds were comfortable. The other facilities were excellent - especially the swimming pool but the hotel is about a 10 mins taxi ride from the centre. It was 30 degrees while we were there but at cooler times it would be possible to walk to M1 shopping mall or Krakow Plaza mall and cinema/ entertainment centre. The taxis cost around £6 to the centre and drive very fast!!. The hotel restaurant was very good but the food very rich for our taste - also the portions were huge. As it was late July, we were glad to get out of the crowds in the centre and relax at the Orient but at other times of the year I think it would be better to stay nearer the centre. To get from the airport, take a train to the main station ( a free bus goes to airport station), then a taxi from outside ( end nearest platform 5 and bus station). Krakow is lovely for a few days and the Polish people are very friendly and helpful. Several large shopping malls - prices similar to here, we only found that food is cheaper.

Great Hotel with friendly helpful staff

17 July 2008
This was our first time to Krakow and this hotel exceeded our expectations. Although located a little out from the centre, public transport was easy to use and readily available. The hotel room was very clean and equipped with everything necessary for a comfortable stay. The hotel staff were always very helpful and friendy, the breakfast was plentiful and you have the option to have an evening meal at the hotel although there wasn't as much options on the menu as we would have liked so it might be wise to stop in the centre for better variety. We would definately recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Krakow!

excellent value for money

10 July 2008
This was our first experience of Poland .The Orient hotel was clean and the staff were comprehensive when approached. The pool was excellent as were the breakfast buffet and the meals at night. I would have no hesitation staying their again. One word of warning watch the taxi drivers as the never take the same route twice and you can be charged anything from £6 to £11 when going to the city centre.

Too far out from City Centre

06 June 2008
I chose this hotel based on previous reviews. When in future on a city break I will ensure that I book a hotel within the city centre as it was not worth the time, hassle and expense involved in getting taxis to and from the hotel to anywhere worthwhile. It became uneconomical. Otherwise the hotel accommodation was nice and clean and the food was superb.

5-night stay at The Orient

17 February 2008
This hotel is just a £5 (22 Zlotys) taxi ride from the centre or 2.5 Zlotys by tram. Tip: from the airport, ask the taxi driver to take you the short route through town, save about £8 and do make sure it's on the meter. I had some bad experiences with taxi drivers trying to fiddle! The hotel itself is excellent with very helpfull staff, superb continental breakfast with a vast choice, nice swimming pool and sauna. I went on guided tours to Auschwitz, the salt mine and on my own to Zakopane ski resort by bus (only 18 Zlotys each way). Krakow itself has a beatutiful city centre, big wide squares with fine architecture. Tip: eat at the Wierzynek dating from 1364, the oldest restaurant in Krakow, in Rynek Glowny. You may wish to dress up for the occasion as the surroundings are plush, the waiters attentive and the food great but not expensive by UK standards. Enjoyed my week's visit.

The best place to stop

11 October 2007
Just spent 3 day in krakow, wonderful experience full of charm and history. But what made it so great was the hotel, food out of this world, facilities 1st class and so cheap.Location just out of centre but taxi ride only £5 to the heart of the city.

Not up to expectations.

09 October 2007
Having read the reviews we decided to stay here for the last 6 nights of our three weeks in Poland. Big mistake. The pool and leisure facilities do not open until 9am, and if you want a sauna you then have to wait for it to heat up . There is a bar, but it does not open until 7pm. There is no lounge area. We stayed at four and five star hotels throughout our trip, this just did not compare to the others and doesn't deserve 4****. But it was inexpensive so we should have guessed. We also sadly experienced groups of youths rushing around corridors and banging doors very late at night on a couple of ocassions. The resaurant is open all day and the meal we had there was very good. THe reception staff were also very helpful and spoke good english. Our taxi fares for the stay would have come to over £65, so it wasn't such a good deal after all. A.C.C.

Excellent Hotel

20 August 2007
We are just back from the Hotel Orient in Krakow. We had a superb time. The hotel is 15 minutes walk from the direct tram line into Krakow centre. The hotel staff were superb and their English was very good. We enjoyed the swimming pool and leisure facilities. We had no problem with any of the travel to and from the hotel. Food and drink very cheap and so are the wonderful tours. A truly fabulous experience. Dont miss the opportunity and do not be put off by the hotel location as it was great.

The hotel is in the middle of what appears to be an industrial estate !! However, don't be put off, as the hotel is very plesant once you arrive inside. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the rooms are of quite a high standard. The food offered in the restaurant was good, although I was charged 2 different prices for the same dish. I found it to be much cheaper to go out to local bars etc. I had no probs finding the hotel with my SatNav, mind you if you thnk the traffic jams are bad in the UK, try the Polish ones, they knock us into a cocked hat !! All in all I though the Orient Hotel was good value for money, and I would stay there again on any future visits

High Standard and Reasonable Rates at the 'Orient' Krakow

22 September 2006
Having selected 3 possible hotels from the numerous internet sites specialising in Krakow hotels, I chose the Orient. The decision was made after reading the comments which other guests had written most of which reflected my own experience.

I found the service and staff to be exceptionally efficient and friendly at all times.  The rooms were slightly better than expected and spotlessly clean, as was the entire hotel. The breakfast was nothing short of a feast which kept me refuelled for most of the day.

People have criticised the location since it is out of town however the Taxis were never more than 5 minutes away (from reception calling to the vehicle arriving)and the bill was between 25 - 30 Zlotys max (£5 to £6). As another reviewer claimed, you would need to take an aweful lot of taxis before you were paying inner city 3 star prices. Another seasoned traveller mentioned that the inner city hotels, though splendid, were dated and had their own quirks. I was more than happy with my modern plumbing, sound proofed rooms and air conditioning.

If you are travelling in your own vehicle then you may experince some difficulty in finding it even if you have your GPS Sat Nav system since most of then do not cover Poland. I did use some simple software (Vito Map) and calibrated my own maps of Krakow which allowed me to make a faultless arrival at the hotel. I was actually quite amazed.
Conclusion, Stay here for half the price and take Taxis - Eat out every night and you will still have change in you pocket.
