The Oban Caledonian Hotel was built in 1882 with the arrival of the West Highland Railway in Oban. The Caledonian was originally known as The Station Hotel and was owned by the Campbell Family until the 1950’s. In the 60’s the building was renamed as The Caledonian Hotel and at the time was one of the first hotels in the highlands to boast “a motorised lift and central heating”. The hotel was completely renovated in 2002 and the bedrooms in 2005. The hotel is situated down beside the harbour and is the only hotel of this standard in the town centre. Each guest room includes a great view, en-suite with hair dryer, double bed, TV, telephone, iron & board, tea & coffee making facilities. A full Scottish breakfast is inclusive of the room price. The hotel has a distinctly colonial feel with the downstairs public areas being relaxed and informal by day and lively by night, perfect for both couples and families. The Restaurant Caledonian is one of the finest Restaurants in Oban and Argyll. The informal Café Caledonian is relaxed by day and lively by night, with a relaxing brassiere ambiance. The Café offers a casual all day bistro menu, cosmopolitan wine list and wonderful views of Oban Bay. The hotel also provides a bar offering great malt whiskies and wines accompanied by an inviting fire. As well as its fabulous views, the ocean promenade, islands all around, ancient monuments and castles, Oban is renowned for outdoor activities such as diving, hiking, fishing, bird-watching – even whale spotting. This hotel is in a perfect location - next to the train station and ferry terminal. The staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. It's an old hotel, but with recently refurbished bedrooms and reception area. Clean and spacious bedroom, fabulous Scottish breakfast. Couldn't fault it.
