The Novotel in Les Halles is an ideal location for exploring the centre of Paris. The location is really the major draw for this hotel- it's literally minutes from the Pompidou Centre and close enough to the river that the city is really at your doorstep. I stayed there on a rugby match weekend, and the staff were extremely helpful. The food in the restaurant is particularly good for this type of hotel, and the room (while not brand new) was clean, spacious and comfortable.
