Hugely Disappointing
03 September 2008
For such a prestigious location, and such a grand building, the room was hugely disappointing. We were a towel short (hardly the end of the world) and had to wait an hour for a replacement (not easy for two people to shower with only one towel). We had no kettle (one was advertised) in the room so called room service. They suggested one would be along shortly. An hour later, I had to go to reception to collect one myself. We found the 'missing' one that evening when we discovered it had been used to prop the window open!
Someone's post had been left behind and somehow missed by the cleaning staff, and - as mentioned in other reviews - the hotel is in need of modernisation, and the cramped double room desperately needed a facelift. The best thing about this hotel was the wonderful breakfast buffet. Even the restaurant was unavailable though after breakfast "for management issues" was the only answer forthcoming from staff. The staff were friendly enough, but two hour-long waits for two items supposedly already included in the room is unacceptable.

Basic but reasonable value
27 August 2008
Good pizza in the evening.
No indication of which channel was which on the TV and no information available at reception.
Shaver light was not working.
Room needed some attention but was OK for the one night I stayed.
Breakfast was fine - plenty of whatever you could reasonable ask for.
Staff courteous and as helpful as they could be.

Basic but good value
02 April 2008
After reading reports I didnt know what to expect but all in all it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Yea it could do with a good bit of update but really what we paid for we couldn't really complain. The breakfast was good and the Staff friendly and helpful. We were at the front of the hotel and it was quite noisy at night with traffic so next morning we asked to be changed to a quieter room and there was no problem. I would stay here again as it is quite close to town but in a quiet and safe area with nice restaurants around you.

Not 3 star
02 March 2008
I suppose this hotel did the job for a stay whilst working. However, the room was really very bleak - peeling lino & furniture that I wouldn't give to oxfam. Breakfast was pretty good and venue was central. If you just want somewhere to sleep with brakfast it's okay, otherwise I'd pay a bit more for a more comfortable room. I can't see how this is rated as a 3 star hotel.

Good value for money but in desperate need of modernisation. Room smelt a bit musty but was clean. Family said they would rather pay extra for a 'less tired' hotel. Ok for one night. Convenient for city centre.

Rooms were adequate, breakfast was ok. Can't complain at the price. OK for a one night stop over and would be fine for a longer stay if decor was updated somewhat.

Never a problem
18 February 2008
Considereing the price of the rooms in this hotel i cant complain. It is very standard but has everything you need, i have stayed in this hotel 3 times now whilst out on the town as its cheaper for me than to get a taxi to and from my home and have never needed to moan or complain, check in is nice and easy and breakfast in the morning is satisfactory, all in all a problem free stay, and is also a small bus / taxi ride to birminghams great night life including, broad street, bindley place, Arcadian centre and also the mailbox, 10 mins max!

Basic but good value
24 September 2007
On arrival we confirmed our request for double room as opposed to a twin and where apparently upgraded.
I say apparently as the room was basic and smelt of damp.
As we were only staying for the night we just dealt with it. Breakfast the next morning was OK and all staff were courteous.
Given the price we have no complaints but might consider paying a bit extra for a less tired hotel.

Review of the NORFOLK Hotel Birmingham
13 November 2006
A basic hotel at a very reasonable basic price. The staff were courteous and helpful and check-in was quick and simple. There were 8 of us so we had four twin rooms, some freshly decorated but some looking a bit tired and ready for a lick of paint. The rooms and the hotel in general was clean and as we were a group of lads the rooms to us were just a resting place after a hectic night out. To someone a bit more fussy, the non newly decorated rooms may not be up to scratch. Never the less, for the price we paid we were more than happy, especially as our price included breakfast which had a good mixture of hot and cold buffet items. As a group we would definatley return to the Norfolk Hotel but if a bit more luxury is what you are after, then there is plenty of other choice around the area.
