cheap and cheerful

09 March 2010
Pool cold-may have been because it was out of 'season'. Staff helpful and room clean but walls very thin- noisy night time neighbours and early morning furniture aranging marred the otherwise peaceful surroundings. Short walk to beach but further to town, would suit brits looking for home from home.Overall ok

Superb Vaue for Money Hotel.

25 November 2009
All the previous, positive comments that have been written about the Nerja Club almost understate how good it is. High quality staff, immaculate rooms - the cleaners work assiduously, good food and not at all expensive Thank-you for a delightful holiday

We had such a lovely time

23 September 2009
We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel in September. Nerja is a beautiful centre and whilst it was a 10 min walk to the beach we found the hotel quiet and relaxing. The pool was a treat to use. The food was first class with plenty of choice , the rooms clean and comfortable and ours had a stunning sea view. the staff were very friendly and we found them so willing to help us whenever we asked. All in all extremely good value for money and we look forward to returning. we would certainly recommend it to others looking for a reliable and pleasant 3 star hotel.

We only stayed from Friday to Sunday. This was a great hotel in a great location it is only 5min taxi journey from the main town. Reception staff were always so helpful and ordered us taxi's whenever we needed one. The rooms were basic but spotless clean and we got fresh towels every day and the shower was amazing what more could you want. The food was also great for breakfast and lunch and the pool area is just the right size for the hotel. The only negative thing i would say about the pool is the shallow end isnt very shallow for young children but to be fair it sint advertised for children. The price of this hotel is great and you get what you pay & is worth every penny!!!! We would 100% return to this hotel.

Nerja Club

05 July 2009
We have just spent four very relaxing days at the Nerja Club. The rooms were kept very clean, fresh towels every day, the only issue we had was no double beds, just two singles pushed together. The swimming pool was lovely and a pleasant area to sit and sunbathe during the afternoon / evening. Staff were very helpful and attentive. Breakfast caters for all tastes but don't drink the coffee!! Remember this is only a 3 star hotel and you get what you pay for, and for what we paid, it was worth every penny! Yes, we will be going back.

reasonably comfortable 3 star hotel. at the top of the hill so walking back from beach or town centre is all up hill. breakfast tasty with self service buffet. did not try the restaurant accept at breakfast but bar food quite good. live entertainment almost every night in the bar so make sure you ask for a room away and not above the bar area as it can be noisy and can go on till 11.30 pm. if you want an early night not good. air conditioning noisy and poor quality. i went in may. would think mid summer rooms would be stuffy. no fridge in rooms although you can hire one.

Nerja Club again!

13 March 2009
We have just returned from our 3rd stay in 4 years at this hotel. The staff are friendly (same staff every year, so they must like it there too!), the food choice is very good, tastes delicious and trouble taken in presentation. There is entertainment every night, and most facilities available. We always stay in February or March, to get some winter sunshine, and to avoid any children staying!(we enjoy the peace & quiet on holiday). Great value and we will return again soon!

Excellent value for 3 star

Just returned, booked half board. Good size room, bright and clean. Food very good with plenty to choose from, for example, a different fish course each evening. Only downside is the poor sound insulation in the room

Friendly & Popular Place

08 January 2009
Spent Xmas week 2008 here and they made a real effort with the Xmas party. Basic but clean rooms with plenty of English TV channels. Food was very varied in the evenings, plenty of fish and seafood dishes. Spoke to many people who returned here regularly each year. Hotel was ideal for single traveller - plenty of secluded areas to escape and read a book, or entertainment every night if you want it. Entertainment was a bit cheesy for some but was great for people watching and got people up dancing. Better than no entertainment. Hotel is a fair walk to the nearest beach so do bear that in mind....maybe not ideal for families with young children unless they have a hire car. I would stay here again although one week is long enough in winter as it is a bit quiet in the area at this time.

Great Hotel

18 October 2008
Second time we've stayed at Nerja Club and was not disappointed. Infact our room was bigger and better than before. Staff were excellent, friendly and professional. Rooms were cleaned daily and fresh towels supplied as required. Overall, excellent facilities, clean and friendly hotel. Ideally situated for Nerja town and Burriana Beach. Lovely choice of restaurants, beaches, bars etc. Will definitely return again.

waste of money

02 October 2008
I was very disapointed with this hotel, after reading reviews about this hotel i booked it thinking it would be an enjoyable and relaxing place to stay, i couldnt have been more wrong. I had booked a double room in august as i was going to a family wedding, me and my boyfriend(whos 6ft4) got the smallest room in the place, it was that bad that anytime he wanted to get past me i had to sit on the bed, the airconditiong also seen better days, and dripped through the night. The bed was tiny and had only one large pillow, i thought i had it really bad until i went out to the balcony and seen the room next to ours, no joke only 1 person could fit on the ajoining balcony. When i went to the reception to ask for a bigger room they simply told me that there was none available and that if i had any problems to contact my tour operator. We payed 400 for a room for a week and my family were staying down the road at the vera azul apartments and got a beautiful apartment with 2 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms, 2 balconys, a large living room and kitchen all for the same price. In addition if you hate enclosed spaces this hotel is not for you, the corridors are very narrow. The worst place i have ever stayed

Relaxing Atmosphere

04 July 2008
I have just spent 14 nights at the Nerja Club and came away wondefuly relaxed. Hotel is reasonably quit with entertainment not loud due to residential area and finished before midnight. We found the hotel to be very clean though bedding was past its best and needs upgrading. Food was basic but good though not much variation from night to night. Pool area quiet and relaxing. Walk down to the beaches was easy enough but coming back can be a bit of a struggle especially in the heat. I suggest go to beach early and come back to the pool late afternoon for a futrher cool off. All hotel facilities are reasonably good. You can hire a fridge for 3 euros per day plus VAT but you will need it to keep drinks especially water cool. Our room was very spacious and light with an excellent airconditioner. The hotel is only 15 to 20min walk to the Balcon Europe area. Nerja is a lovely scenic area with no high rise buildings. Had a fab time and will bel going again in the near future.

Xmas Break

28 December 2007
We stayed at Nerja Club for 3 days over the Xmas period. We found the staff to be polite and helpfull. The food was very good, especially as the hotel has only a 3 star raiting. The room was basic, but clean and adiquate. There was entertainment each evening. We considered our stay good value for money.

Lovely Hotel

15 August 2007
This was the first time i'd been to Nerja and found it a beautiful place. The hotel made the holiday even more enjoyable. On reception staff were very welcoming and helpful with any problems. The hotel it's self was extremely clean and maid service was prompt and very thorough. The food was gorgeous and there was a wide variety to choose from. The waiters were very efficient and friendly, which was nice as it made you feel very welcome. There was entertainment available every evening so you didn't have to leave the hotel if you didn't want to. The only suggestion I would make would be that double rooms contain double beds and not two single beds pushed together. We really enjoyed our time in Nerja and especially this hotel, we will be going again and using this hotel as it was just what we was looking for, for a nice relaxing holiday.

Good rooms and facilities, clean and warm and serviced daily. Friendly, helpful staff, especially the reception.  There was a good choice of food and it was of good quality. The only negative points were that you could be disturbed by noisy room neighbours because of the thin walls and the evening entertainers were suited to the Thomson and First Choice clients that formed most of the residents.
Overall, excellent value for money, and we would go again.

Review of 'NERJA CLUB'

26 September 2006
The Nerja Club Hotel is in a relatively quiet part of Nerja albeit on the main road. In spite of this the traffic noise was not disturbing, either by day or night. The bedrooms we were given were of good quality but, as we noticed, not as well appointed or as large as other rooms in the hotel. The rooms were well cleaned daily at about 3.00 pm. The air conditioning worked very well (at times too well!). We were booked on a bed and breakfast basis and although the breakfast was acceptable we thought that they could have varied the food and also provided a greater range of fresh fruit and a wider choice of eggs and pastries.
The staff were meticulous in their overall cleaning of the hotel both inside and out. The pool area was clean and tidy but the sun loungers and umbrellas were well past their use-by date. The type of people staying at this hotel tended to be sensible family types with not a lager-lout in sight!
Quick transport to and from the hotel into Nerja town is by taxi (max fare 5 euros). Walking to and from Burriana beach takes about 15-20 minutes there and about 25 minutes back (uphill). Walking to the town itself is about 5 minutes longer. The reception staff were always helpful and their exchange rate was equal to or better than anywhere in town (no commission).
Overall, a very pleasant week's stay.
This was our third holiday in Nerja and we have seen a lot of changes in the area with the construction of the by-pass and properties being constantly built on the outskirts of the town. These are tending to be more and more up-market which will tend to put up the cost of living in the area. We also noticed that Nerja is turning into a "Little Britain" which is why this will have been our last holiday there.

Probably unlike most of the other guests, we arrived for a two day break in our car.    We found the hotel to be very clean, the staff were welcoming and the food was very good.     Our room was lovely and had a good-sized balcony.   There was also a very good selection of TV channels.    The swimming pool was nice and clean and also peaceful (more or less free from screaming children!)  The only possible complaint was that there wasn't very much parking space.   We didn't feel able to go out in our car at night in case there was no room when we returned.  However, it is all downhill into Nerja town and taxis were only 5.00 Euros coming back up the hill to the hotel.    We would definitely stay in the hotel again

Overall Review 4+ out of 5

28 June 2006
OK so it isnt a 4/5 star but returned to Nerja Club after being very satisfied with our stay previously. Although situated a 15-20 min walk from the centre of town, we enjoyed the stroll after dinner and explored the older areas. Taxi's were available when required. Again, the staff are pleasant and helpful with English being no problem. The rooms are clean and serviced to a high standard each day. A few rooms, although secure, offer less privacy, being alongside a pathway. The buffet food is more than average quality and varies enough over a week to satisfy most. The rear patio and pool area is also clean and very popular with guests with nightly entertainment giving an opportunity to mix. Good value for money and will return.

the hotel itself was lovely, both me and my mum had a fab few days break from the husbands and kids.
it was a 10/15 minute walk to biriana beach although coming back was hard going as it was up hill, for those of you put off by this, ordering a cab was easy enough and cost 5 euros to the beach or town(balcon)centre where there were loads of fab shops and good places to eat(gotta try the french restaurant petit paris)
the rooms in the hotel were basic but clean, the pool area was lovely.
breakfast was nice with a good choice of food although the orange juice and so called fresh fruit was something to be desired.
entertainment was pretty much the same every night and my only complaint would be the miserable waiting/bar staff, apart from this lovely, would definately go back.

Big Mistake

27 May 2006
The hotel looked ok from the outside, the reception staff were friendly and efficient but the hotel itself, although clean, was very tired.  The room was small and overlooked the local rubbish dump! The shower had to be hand held as, if you put on the wall bracket, it spun round like a catherine wheel!.  The beds were the most uncomfortable we have ever had the misfortune to try and sleep in but the TV had good reception.  Breakfast was truly dreadful, the customers all looking as miserable as the staff and by the end of our stay we didn't even both to go there.  Not a successful stay and we really could not recommend it to anyone.

We stayed at Nerja Club in November 2004, November 2005 and March 2006 and we have enjoyed the stay very much. The hotel has a real homely athmosphere, the staff is very helpful and friendly and most of them speak english very competently. The food, if not gourmet style, is very good and tasteful to North Europeans. The prices are very cheap, and cheaper than most other hotels in the area. The entertainers they use are very competent and are adding to the athmosphere.
We plan to make use of the hotel more times in the future!

Used the hotel to act as a base while we explored the region and we stayed before and after a 2-day/night stay at Granada. The hotel took some finding as I used www.mappy.com and the street name was not clear. It is on the main Almeria road to the East of Nerja and is easiest reached from the junction on the motorway signed "Nerja Maro" to the east of the main Nerja junction. Follow the raod into town and it is on the left, quite a way out of town but enough of a walk to waer off the food. It is a steep walk down to Burriana beach which is more "trad" and has some excellent fish restaurants serving lucnh in the winter. Nerja Club is pleasant and comfortable with good lounge, conservatory, pool/sun patio areas. The rooms vary and the ones in the new annexe are roomy and comfortable. TV includes BBC1 with East Midlands news which is quite bizarre in Spain! Breakfasts were basic with dire coffee and those insipid teabags. Take PG Tips or buy them in the excellent supermarket (SuperSol) directly opposite the entrance. The staff were most friendly at all times and extremely polite and patient with an elderly gent who kept asking whether thank you in Spanish was pronounced "grathias" or "Grassias". All in all a good place for a stay and I would imagine it would be pleasant in full season. Alpharooms prices are superb by the way! Well done again for stunning value.

Excellent value for money

02 February 2006
We stayed at Nerja Club between Xmas and New Year 2005.  Our room was lovely - not luxurious, but clean, very quiet and South facing so very light.

The food at the hotel was good - not exceptional but for a 3 star hotel I was impressed. One waiter was particularly cheery and friendly - I think his name was Paco and if you go and stay there you will definitely know who I mean!  He was very friendly with everyone and always had a lovely smile and a joke to share with you.

The hotel is about 20 minutes walk from the sea - and Nerja is so interesting and pretty that walking is a pleasure. If you are a telly addict the English channels available on the TV will keep you very happy!

The only small negative point was that the air conditioning system was quite dated and you needed a little heat at night as it was December.  It didn't work that well and after a short while warm air became cold air!!  But we were lucky in that it wasn't really that cold for December.

It really was excellent value for money and we're going back!

The hotel is in a quiet area near the Capistrano district. It's a good 20 minutes walk into Nerja town centre and 10 minutes down to and 20 minutes up from the nearest beach.
There has been a lot of new appartment blocks built between the hotel and the sea in the last 2 years and the road is being altered which created an amount of dust.
However the hotel was clean and well run.
Half board has a good selection of buffet style food of a good standard for breakfast and evening meal.
Our bedroom was of a good size with air conditioning, although there are some which I'm told were afected by dampness from the pool.
The pool and sun lounge are a little small and could be rather crowded at times.
The hotel seems to cater more for an older clientel.
Our only complaint was that there was no tea, coffee making facilities in the room.

First impressions were favorable - the public areas were very good with comfortable seating and pleasant surroundings. However the bedroom we had was in need of upgrading - particularly the furniture. Air conditioning worked but was a bit noisy and was needed throughout the night. We were on a half board basis and were not at all disappointed with the food but ate out a couple of nights to sample the very good restaurants in Nerja. We stayed at this hotel for 6 nights at the end of our holiday and had already experienced 4 star hotels in Mijas and Granada. The Nerja Club was on a par in respect of the public areas but the bedroom did not come anywhere near the same standard.

Excellent Value for Money !
We have just returned from Nerja Club and felt it necessary to "put pen to paper" !

Not at all sure what to expect when we got there, but was completely overwhelmed.    The hotel facilities were excellent and everything was spotless.   You cannot fault the hard working staff working so hard in temperatures of 35 degrees + !

The location is very good, about a 10 minute walk downhill to Burriana Beach and a range of excellent restaurants.   Its a 15 minute walk downhill to the centre of Nerja with 3 beaches, a wide range of restaurants, bars and shops.   The Balcon de Europa is a must and full of atmosphere in the evenings.

Going back to the Nerja Club I can highly recommend the food.  We only stayed bed and breakfast and can certainly say the range of food for breakfast could not be faulted.    Other guests at the hotel who were staying half board certainly recommended the food.

All in all an excellent "last minute" holiday.  This is our 2nd time to Nerja and will certainly be going again.   We've already suggested to our 18 year old daughter who is planning a holiday later in the year to stay at the Nerja Club.  It would be ideal for her and I know she would be safe and well looked after !

Thank you to all the staff at Nerja Club and also to Alpha Rooms for the extremely prompt booking arrangements.

Regards.

Happy Holidayer !

I was quite disappointed with the Hotel. For the first 4 nights of our stay we were given a small room with no balcony or terrace which faced onto a street of parked cars. After much complaining to the reception we finally got moved to a room with a lovely garden terrace. However the room was damp and there was a smell of fust in the air (all our clothes smelt of fust too). Most of the staff were generally miserable  (especially the reception staff) but I think this is probably due to them working all the hours God sends! There were a couple of friendly waiters though. There was entertainment every night at the hotel but the acts never changed so it got abit boring after the third time of seeing them!

Overall the hotel was in a good location and the town itself is beautiful. If you don't really care about were you stay and just want a bed then you'd be fine here.

Review of 'NERJA CLUB'

Nerja Club Hotel was satisfactory for our purposes i.e. as a base for house-hunting in that area, however, I would not choose it as a holiday hotel.

The food was mainly English based - baked beans for breakfast, when we are abroad we like to sample local cuisine.  The waiting staff were hurried and I felt under pressure to finish my meals quickly so they could clear up.  One waiter dumped a dirty dish in front of me from another table while clearing my table!  Also the trolley to collect dirty dishes was left piled high in front of our table for some considerable time. The waitting staff appeared to be arguing amonst themselves at time.  Towards the end of our stay a waiter appeared who we had not seen before and he was extremely profesional.

The snack-bar closed early in the afternoon and when I tried to place an order I was told to hurry up as they were closing now and I could have only ham or cheese sandwich - as I follow a gluten free diet this was unsatisfactory and eventually I managed to obtain a salad.

At eight 0 clock in the morning glasses and bottles from the previous night were still surrounding the pool area, terraces and bar.

The bedrooms were not cleaned very well - debris from the day was found under the sheets after the bed had been made, and the area around the wash-basin was crusted with dirt with a used cotton bud from a previous occupant left stuck under the mirror area.

The reception staff were extremely helpful and couteous which saved the day somewhat.

I have used alpha-beds several times in the past and have always been extremely satisfied - I felt some feed-back regarding this hotel was necessary.

We stayed for a week and just took the bed and breakfast option, which worked very well. Breakfast is supplied buffet style, so you can really set yourself up for the day with a  selection of varied cereals, bread and even an old fry, with well cooked eggs, tomatoes etc.

The hotel has a pool which we never used, but has a good area all round to stay comfortably for the day, with bar service. You could stay out of the sun and enjoy the same surroundings. All the staff were helpful, in particular at reception, and we used the internet regularly with ease.
The rooms were clean, although a little small, and each had a balcony 10ft x 8ft approx. We spent the days at the beach, which is a good 20 mins downhill, but at least 45 coming back up due to the heat! Nerja has plenty of bars and restaurants and the food is really good value.

We had a great time, but we did have a car and this was a big help going/coming from the beach, which has too many sales people incidentally. Be prepared!

Room was nice and clean.  Air conditioner in room was noisy, TV didn´t always work for all chanels.  Food was very good. Nice pool.  Entertainment was very British.  Most guests were British.  Felt I was in England, not Spain.  But, overall, a very nice hotel and a good location.

I stayed at the Nerja Club early March.  I consider I had value for money and could not fault the food.  However I consider the staff in the restaurant were extremely unfriendly with the exception of one. I am learning Spanish and bid them good morning in my best Spanish.   They ignored me so I gave up after 2 days.

Had a brilliant two week stay; room spotless, entertainment every night, enough to make you get up and dance. Food much better than expected, staff extremely friendly. 10 minute walk to the nightlife and lots of it. Small friendly hotel, planning to go back very soon.
