Mespil Hotel

A very good 3 star hotel with a particularly fine breakfast. A decent but not a long walk from the centre through Georgian Dublin

Mespil Hotel
14 June 2008
My husband and I stayed here for a short break in April. The hotel was lovely, it was clean and the staff were frindly, we chose to stay a bit out of town because we didn't want to be kept awake in the early hours. Breakfast was great. The walk to grafton street was less than 15 mins. all in all a good hotel at a great price through alpha rooms

No Complaints At All
05 April 2008
We stayed in the Mespil for 3 nights at the beginning of April. We have no compaints at all. The rooms were very clean, comfortable and spacious. Bathroom was very clean. All the staff were very friendly and full of good advice. The bar was very good value with tasty food and un-exorbitent prices. Breakfast was excellent. If you're flying into Dublin take the Aircoach, it's 12 Euros return fare and stops just a 5 minute walk from the hotel, they run every 15 minutes or so. The hotel is a 15 min walk into the city centre although the No 10 bus takes you into the city too. If we return to Dublin, which is likely, then I would have no hesitation in booking into the Mespil.

Fantastic
30 January 2008
Stayed in the Mespil for 3 nights and enjoyed every second of it.
Check In was quick & pain free, the room we were allocated was far better than I was expecting, bright, clean, great shower.
Large choice for breakfast, didn't have any other meals but used the bar 2 out of the 3 nights we were there. Tend to find that hotel bars are more expensive, however, this was the cheapest we had been to during our time in Dublin & the waiters were very friendly and would bring drinks to table for you...
Walk into the centre was pleasent, and not long at all. Found a lovely Indian resturant on the walk into Dublin about 5 minutes away from the hotel and a lovely Italian resturant about 3 doors down from the hotel (near Starbucks) which I would definatly recommend.
All in all, a fantastic stay at the Mespil & will definatly stay there again

Excellent 3* Hotel
14 January 2008
Excellent all-round 3* hotel to use as base for city centre. 15/20 minute walk/stroll to temple bar area or take No10 or 10a bus from bus stop 200 yards away (regular stops inc Nassau Street for tourist information centre/temple bar and O'Connell Street). Room and bathroom spacious and clean. Friendly staff. Large relaxing bar. Breafast good (buffet). Dinner good - do a main course special each night with 2 glasses of wine or two pints of beer and a cup of tea/coffee for 22 euro. Ideal also for Lansdowne Road Rugby Stadium (10 mins walk). Would use again and (have) recommended to friends.

Enjoyable stay
30 June 2007
18th June.
We stayed for one night in this hotel and we were very impressed initially with the friendliess of the reception staff, whom allocated us a room on arrival which was at 10.30 am. All staff within the hotel were very courteous and polite. The breakfast and evening meals were very good. The hotel was very clean, warm and or room was very spacious. City center was approx 15 minutes walk away, however it was a pleasure as it allowed us to see and visit (sample) traditional bars along the way. Would recommend the Mespil to any visitor to Dublin.

Always excellent
25 June 2007
This hotel is situated in one of the best areas of Dublin. The hotel has its own secure car park and this is free! The rooms are good and the breakfast is usually excellent. The hotel is within walking distance of some of Dublin's best shopping areas and the famous St Stephen's Green, a tranquil park right in the middle of the city. Just beside the hotel there are some fine restuarants and one of my favourites is Canaletto, an excellent and authentic Italian experience. The Mespil represents reall value for money.

There were 8 of us on our first visit to Dublin, our family of 4 with 2 girls, 15 & 10, my brother his wife and daughter of 9 and our mum of 60+ !! we all thought the Mespil a lovely hotel, situated opposite a canal, staff were helpful & pleasant. Rooms:-a decent size and spotlessly clean with comfy beds. Breakfast was delicious with plenty to choose from hot/cold. The Glaze bar served lovely meals too, a nice comfy area to enjoy a drink or meal.We went into Dublin via the 'City tour shuttle bus ' it dropped us off by St Stephens Green to pick up the proper tour bus it took approx 15 mins to walk back to the Mespil. All in all a fantastic choice of hotel. Thank you

Review of 'MESPIL'
23 January 2007
Reception staff very friendly and efficient. We (2 couples) arrived early for check in (normally 2pm - we arrived 1145) and our rooms were ready for us. Room was clean with average facilities - furniture was pretty standard - no fridge or mini bar. Bed was standard double in size, but comfortable with nice quilt. Bathroom was OK - large enough, bit lacking in shelves and a very shallow bath! Breakfast was excellent with a good choice of hot and cold foods in plentiful supply. We had to queue for about 10 min to get a seat though. Approx 15 - 20 minute walk into the city centre - maybe a bit far in the cold and rain in Jan - wouldn't be very nice in summer months. Whilst not a 4 or 5 star hotel, it does most things pretty well, and was very good value. We would stay again.

Review of 'MESPIL'
18 December 2006
The Mespil was in a great location, it was in the ‘Georgian’ part of the city, approximately 15 minutes walk to St Stephens Green and Grafton Street (main shopping area) Maybe a further 5-10 mins stroll to the main Temple Bar – the lively Irish eating and drinking area. The main reason we loved this hotel, was due to the fact it was quiet, and although in good walking distance to all the museums, and various parts of ‘tourist’ Dublin it was far enough walk away from Temple bar to give you a decent night sleep. Round the corner from the hotel there was a small road of bars and a few restaurants, so we did not eat in the hotel – except breakfast (which was really good)! The rooms were very clean with nice fluffy quilts and modern décor. We were very satisfied with all the staff, services and accommodation! Over all this was excellent value for money and I would stay there if I visited Dublin again!
* I will add, we did move rooms from the first one allocated, as there was some 'air conditioning' type of humming sound at the back of the hotel which was on a 'timer' - so it would switch off @ night, however the staff did happily move us to the front of the hotel, overlooking the canal.
