Mercure Francis, Bath
01 October 2007
We stayed 2 nights at the Francis in September 2007. For a first visit to Bath, it was ideally placed only minutes from all the main attractions, shops and restaurants. Whilst the room was small, it was very comfortable and well equipped. Our requests to reception for additional pillows, milk for in-room tea, and replacement batteries for a dead TV remote were all responded to very quickly - small details which make a big difference. We didn't use the restaurant, except for breakfast - food was good but the room is too small for the number of guests and queueing for tables appears to be common. Overall the hotel decor has a tired look and feel, and an upgrade is long overdue, which new owners Mercure are believed to starting early next year. Current prices are therefore a bit on the high side we felt.

Review of 'THE FRANCIS BATH'
07 August 2006
The Francis Hotel is centrally located in the heart of the city in a historic Georgian Square, it is an excellent base for experiencing the history of this wonderful city. The standard double room was nice decorated and big, clean, comfortable and quiet, with convenient on-site parking all weekend. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The food and wine in the restaurant were of a high standard and we would definitely stay again if visiting Bath in the future. Highly recommeded for a good value for money Bath experience.

Review of 'THE FRANCIS BATH'

Having just returned from a stay in Bath, I have to say that although the Francis is not the best for making you feel special, it is brilliantly located in the centre, making it ideal for wandering around. The room was fine for a one night stay with a large double bed, but the reception staff were not particularly welcoming on arrival and breakfast was a bit of a disaster having to queue up and wait for eggs to be cooked and plates to be refilled for the buffet. My worst comment would be that the bar allowed smoking in all areas, this put us off drinking in the bar and again the service was not brilliant but a little offhand. The entrance and foyer (adjacent to the bar) smelt strongly of stale smoke on the Sunday which was not the best smell to walk into! All in all for a short stay it was perfectly adequate and in a great location. My comments are not big criticisms but little things one notes when being a regular traveller. It can be the little touches that make a hotel experience special and a welcoming smile after a long journey can mean a lot to a weary traveller. Bath is a great place, and well worth visiting.

Review of 'THE FRANCIS BATH'

The best feature of this hotel is its location. Its on leafy Queen Sq & within reach of all of Bath's attractions & shops. Our room wasn't exactly spacious, but clean & overlooked the square itself. The hotel generally offers a great cooked buffet breakfast & the ability to use a nice & relaxing drawing room was most welcome after a day walking around Bath. All in all, I'd stay at the Francis again, although I didn't drive so can't comment on the carparking situation.

Review of 'THE FRANCIS BATH'

As octogenarians we could not have asked for a better location than Queens Square, Bath? Away from the noise & bustle but still very accessible to the City & tourist sites. Hotel has that up-market feel & lives up to it. We found all staff courteous & helpful particularly our Indian Chamberman who kept our room sparkling & was most concerned for our comfort. We also enjoyed the food experience, ample & imaginative. Will certainly return to Bath Francis but may try your Cardiff Hotel next - one has got to be adventurous!

We stayed overnight and found the hotel clean, comfortable and friendly. The room was pleasantly furnished with all of amenities that you expect. The hotel has some very elegant public rooms and a very pleasant drawing room next to the restaurant. Parking is very limited, but since parking in Bath is difficult, even limited parking is a bonus. The location is ideal - on Queen Square - within walking distance to the major attractions, including Bath rugby club. The buffet breakfast offered a good choice.
