The hotel was very clean. Our room overlooked the courtyard which was pleasant. The breakfast was plentiful. Staff very friendly. Would use this hotel again.

A very comfortable hotel with plenty of character and interesting individual rooms well located just a few steps off the Old Town Square. The staff were all friendly and helpful, rooms comfortable, & the bar was pleasant. A more upmarket and expensive hotel but we felt it represented good value for money. We didn't use the restaurant except for breakfast, which was fine, but we did take book some of their beauty treatments which were very good both in value for money and experience. This hotel is probably not suitable for anyone with major walking difficulties as there are no lifts and there are steep uneven rock hewn steps down to the restaurant - but then Tallinn is steep & cobbled so it rather mirrors this.

A beautiful hotel in a beautiful city

Great value altogether! Perfectly situated right in the heart of Tallinn, but still completely quiet. Oh, and try the Body and Beauty Treatments, which are very professional.

The Hotel was converted from a 14th century merchant's house some 5 years ago. It has been beautifully decorated and furnished to provide a very interesting and relaxing atmosphere. The staff speak excellent English and are helpful and friendly. The Hotel is situated close to the main square within the Old Town and is therefore very convenient for exploring the historical sites and museums. It is also a short walk to Viru square to pick up the various sightseeing tour buses. The Hotel has a spa and sauna which also offers an excellent range of massage treatments. The food in the restaurant was very good although it took some time to arrive after ordering. All in all an excellent location and delightful City.

MH. is right in the heart of the Old Town which is where you need to be to appreciate the Medieval splendour of Old Tallinn. The hotel has managed to utilize the fantastic structure of its medieval past whilst being tastefully restored to include all the amenities expected of a 4 Star Hotel, including a superb cellar Resteruant where excellent cuisine is served by the Chef blending European and oriental fusion style dishes. The Cellar also serves Breakfast with both full English or Continental available with an amazing variety of choice. Guests can also dine in the rear courtyard which has been designed for atmosphere and "Al Fresco" experience. The Ice Bar is also atmoshperic offering a huge choice of Ice coctails in its cosy surroundings. The staff are mostly youg Estonians with typical friendly and helpful dispositions and service on the whole is excellent. The bedrooms are all different since they are all constructed in the original parts of the Merchant House, they are all comfortabley fitted out with well designed modern bathrooms and functional bedrooms with contemporary decor.Satallite TV and internet connection is available in most rooms and Broadband connection is available in the Lobby. This Hotel is not for the infirm as there are no lifts to the 3 floors but it is excellent value for the comfort, amenities and service provided and it has the best location possible.

We had an excellent time at the Merchant House Hotel and would highly recommend it . The room was spacious, beautifully decorated and had a great double bath. The Hotel certainly has the best location in Tallin, just 20 secs away from Old Town Square (the heart of medieval Tallin). The staff were friendly and helpful in particular the Hotel Manager (British)

The Merchant's House was an amazing stay.
Firstly, the location is literally a few doors up from the main square in the Old Town.
Inside, the reception staff were very helpful and friendly and the Ice Bar and restaurant area downstairs look even more impressive than their pictures depict.
The room itself was excellent - we had one facing down into the central courtyard. The room had all the features you would need but without a doubt - the bed was the highlight. Definately the most comfortable bed I have slept on.
The bathroom was well appointed and features a monsoon-style shower knozzle.
The inclusive breakfast was superb to say the least -set downstairs in old medieval walls and included the full continental style breakfast, cereals and cooked breakfasts.
Finally, the sauna was a nice little added extra.
I would definatley recommend the Merchant House as the place to stay in Tallinn. It's combination of medieval architecture and modern appointments was excellent and added to what is a spectacular trip away to Tallinn which in itself was a superb city (even at -15!!)
Thanks

Review of 'MERCHANT'S HOUSE'

Our time at the Merchant's House Hotel in Tallinn was a very relaxing one. The hotel is in a fantastic location, as close as you can get to the centre of the Old Town, and well placed for exploring Tallinn. The room we had was one of their smaller rooms but had been recently renovated to a high standard and overlooked the central courtyard. The bed was huge and very comfortable, with quality sheets and pillows. The room was an ample size and had the items as advertised in the description. The hotel was very well heated and no doubt very welcoming to retreat to when the Tallinn winter gets the better of you.
Most of the staff (with one minor exception) are very friendly, are happy to help you and all speak good English. The hotel does have a sauna for the use of guests, however, we were not given the details on arrival & did not feel inclined to use it, so cannot report on it. The breakfast included in the stay is self-service but again is of a high quality and includes fruit, yoghurts, cheese, cold meat, salad, breads, pastries and the usual bacon, sausages, eggs, beans and mushrooms. The hotel bar is reasonably priced and has a large selection of drinks, and the cappuccinos are the cheapest we found in Tallinn during our short stay. We did have the ice shots in the Ice Bar, which whilst rather gimmicky, have to be done (and you are not charged any extra for the ice glass).
We ate in the hotel main restaurant one evening and the atmosphere was good, staff friendly and prices not bad when compared to England, but when compared to some Tallinn prices a little high. The food was good (but not the best we had during our break), however, the restaurant had run out of vegetables on the night we ate, which affected both the starter and the main!
All in all, we would definitely recommend this hotel to others.
Tallinn is a wonderful place to explore for a long weekend, reasonably priced with stunning buildings and interesting history. Dont forget your camera. We have now been twice, once in the summer and once in the winter and Tallinn has had a different atmosphere both times. Summer is very buzzing and lively with lots of cafe's and restaurants having tables outside and is visited by many tourists, in the winter Tallinn is more quiet with significantly less tourists

What a lovely hotel! Very trendy, but in a wonderful old building. Reception and restaurant staff very friendly, rooms comfortable - and some good books in the library! Location is great, just off the main square. We had a great meal in the cellar restaurant, it's a very unusual room! Would recommend this hotel very highly.
